I'm collecting obscure and hard to find madchester, indie & shoegaze bands from late 80's & early to mid 90's period. Anything i can find, unreleased demos & tracks, demo & cassette tapes, unreleased singles and albums, white label promos, DJ promos, exclusive unreleased material, etc. Check my Wanted Records list, too.

 

I've posted most of known and unkown bands from that period, but there are still bands and records that are hard to find.

First exclusive material on the blog in 2017, unreleased second album from London indie band Eat.
I heard some rumours that this album was recorded but never officially released, but i wasn't sure that really exists until now. I tried to find more info on the net and here's what i found on wikipedia:

''The band started out playing a distinctive mixture of swamp blues, hip hop and funk, showcased on their 1989 album ''Sell Me A God''. At this time they undertook tours of Europe with The Jesus and Mary Chain and Phillip Boa. Band tensions led to the abandonment of a second album in 1990, although they toured in October on the back of an NME single of the week, "Psycho Couch". However, a combination of internal feuds ("It got to the point where we just couldn't bear to be in the same room as each other") led to a complete split and meant that the band was effectively on hiatus from 1990 to 1992. The band returned with a different line up, a completely different sound - of pop and psychedelia - and the album ''Epicure'' in 1993. Despite positive reviews, a tour in the United States with Medicine, and extensive airplay, Eat had evidently run its course, and in 1995 Dolittle left to join members of The Wonder Stuff in Weknowwhereyoulive, whilst Howard joined The Wonder Stuff's singer Miles Hunt in his new project Vent 414.''

Great unreleased single by The Headmen. Recorded as the follow up to the "Reach the Sky EP'', the 4 tracks only got as far as the initial mix stage. Before the final mix could take place, the master tapes were destroyed when a fire broke out in the building that housed Beaumont Street Studios in Huddersfield.

Unreleased single from ''Peggy Suicide'' album, remixed by Michael Franti from American industrial-hip hop band The Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy. Additional rap by Michael Franti.

Island Records refused to release the song as a single due to it being considered too overtly political.

Another lost gem from early 90's period, unreleased album called ''Fruity'' from Family Gotown.
They were obscure UK indie band who released only three singles: ''Turtle EP (1992)'', ''Box EP (1992)'' & ''Innocence And Experience EP (1993)''.

Family Gotown recorded album ''Fruity'' but their label Vertigo dropped them prior to the LP coming out. Such a shame, it's really fantastic album, contains 13 songs of hammond organ driven indie guitar pop.

Finally, one of the most wanted and most obscure record that i've ever posted on the blog, unreleased second album demos by madchester legends and one of my favourite bands ever - Northside.
Second album demos were recorded in early 1992 and set to be released same year, and the lead single ''Want A Virgin'' was given a Factory catalogue number (FAC338), but Factory Records collapsed, leaving the excellent demos unheard.
I was waiting very long time for great copy of this lost treasure, all tracks are remastered to sound better.

Another exclusive record and one of my favourites on this blog, unreleased album ''Hopeful Mosters'' from early 90's Manchester indie band The Cygnet Ring.

After so many years of searching for good copy, before few weeks i received amazing quality rip of this cassette only release of the album after the band were dropped from Warner Music UK. Mainly sold at the band's gigs during the second half of 1992.

Huge thanks to my friend for great copy of ''Hopeful Monsters'', making available this obscure and unreleased album for the rest of the people on the blog.

Band formed in 2001 by Flowered Up members Liam Maher (vocals) and Tim Dorney (keyboards), with help from their friends Johnyy Male (Airstream, Sensation) on guitar, Ed Ball (The Times) on bass and Shovel (Natural Life) on percussion. They were signed by Alan McGee (Creation Records manager) for his new Poptones label. They recorded demos for the album but it was never officially released.

Ambitious Beggars started out in the early '80's in Manchester. The band were originally called Ignition & were fronted by John Bramwell, who went on to be a minor legend on the Manchester scene calling himself Johnny Dangerously. He later re-emerged as the critically acclaimed & fairly successful I Am Kloot. They signed to Ugly Man Records in 1989, Bob Kemp took over the lead role in the band and they released their first single, ska influenced "Man In A Suit"/"The Shadow". Next came the "Welcome" EP. The next thing you know the whole Madchester scene is in full flow & record companies are flocking north to find the next Stone Roses. This was the opportunity they'd been waiting for, but somehow despite a large Manchester following & a well received national tour supporting James, they remained unsigned.

''Beg EP'' is madchester influenced single, real shame it was never officially released, all tracks are great, especially my favourites from this band - ''Tambourine'' and "Fear".
