Gear - Bed & Breakfast

GEAR
Bed & Breakfast
1993 Hair Records

Notes :
First two tracks, ''Star'' & ''Lights Out'' are ripped as one track, great unknown album from early 90s period.

One of the most obscure albums i've ever posted on the blog, released on mysterious UK label Hair in 1993. I have this album for few years, i was waiting to find any info about this unknown band Gear, before i post copy on the blog. Before few weeks i played album again after long time and i'm pretty sure that they are somehow connected with early 90's UK indie band Basinger.
One of The Basinger songs ''Hey Holly J'' from ''Boomerang EP'' is reworked here on ''Bed & Breakfast'' album. And i'm sure that singer is the same, Simon Barber or Stuart Harris, i don't know if other Basinger members are involved here, maybe they changed their name from Basinger to Gear and released album & 7'' single for Hair label.

Bassinger released their 7'' single ''Handsome'' for Hair label in February 1993. Band members were Simon Barber (ex-The Chesterfields, vocals, bass guitar), Stuart Harris (vocals, guitar), Jaz Wiseman (bass) and Stephen Stickley (drums).

Maybe someone can help me and remembers this band.

Ever - Virginize

EVER
Virginize
1991 Midnight Music

Notes :
Early 90's baggy single by Ever released on great Midnight Music label. Very obscure band, members were Lyndon Dempsey (vocals), Peter Whittick (guitar), Andy Prosser (bass) and Fin Scott Kenny (drums).
This is probably same band that in 1988 together with The Grooveyard released split flexi single ''Summer / Sleepyhead'' on Playroom Discs. For the same label they recorded single in 1988 called ''Carousel EP'' but was never released. I think i have somewhere copy. At this period they were jangle pop band.
In 1991 one of their tracks ''Really Tired'' was released on great ''Forever Changing'' compilation, this is my favourite Ever track, i wish they released more stuff like this one.

The Cradle - It's Too High

THE CRADLE
It's Too High
1987 Rough Trade

Notes :
UK indie rock band from Manchester formed by Ivor Perry (ex-Easterhouse, Parchman). Other band members were Craig Gannon (ex-The Smiths, guitar), Gary Rostock (ex-Easterhouse, drums), Lee Bennett (bass) and Andy Housley (vocals).
The band had a number 12 indie chart hit with "It's Too High" in 1987, but the band was put on hold when Johnny Marr left The Smiths. Perry was considered to replace Marr and recorded some new material with the band, including an early version of "Bengali in Platforms" that was originally intended as the B-side ofwhich is "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before", and later appeared on Morrissey's first album ''Viva Hate''. Perry was uncomfortable with the situation, stating "it was like they wanted another Johnny Marr", and the sessions ended with (according to Perry) "Morrissey running out of the studio". Perry instead resurrected The Cradle with new singer Craig Davies, but when Davies signed a solo deal with Rough Trade Records, the rest of the band were dropped by the label.
