Resque - Life's A Bonus
RESQUE
Life's A Bonus
1991 Musidisc
Notes :
International Resque were formed in Reading in 1989. They dropped the 'International' prefix sometime after the release of their second single, 'So Way Down'. Unashamedly a pop band with no particular affection or affinity for 'indie' or independent labels, Resque played Sixties-influenced tunes your milkman could whistle. They toured as the support to their mates Carter USM a couple of times, which widened their exposure to the record-buying public.
Resque's debut album, 'Life's a Bonus', came out in 1991. A Sixties influence was evident on several numbers, such as 'My Big Ambition' and 'She Drives My Train', but was most obviously on display on the perky 'Jump Back', which sparkled in a way reminiscent of 'Help!' era Fab Four. Elsewhere, it has to be said that they sounded like the Wonder Stuff on occasions ('Inside' being a good example), but the album was sprinkled with the kind of tunes that suggested that the band recorded them with smiles on their faces. Such is the fickle world of pop and the music press, if they'd emerged a couple of years later they would have probably been accepted as members of the poppy branch of Britpop (cf Cast, for example). But back in 1991, they just didn't seem to fit in and suffered accordingly. Resque broke up sometime in 1992, presumably due to the absence of an acceptable record deal once their two-single, one-album contract with Musidisc expired. Amazingly, Resque were big in Japan where they had several No. 1's in the Independant Charts and they subsequently toured Japan before they broke up.
After Resque disbanded, Wez joined Carter USM, replacing their drum machine. Guitarist Mark Lyons got his hair cut and formed the power pop trio Chuck, who sadly fizzled out after showing early promise. Bassist Roger apparently joined Airhead.

Sweet Jesus - Phonefreak Honey
SWEET JESUS
Phonefreak Honey
1992 Rough Trade
Sweet Jesus. Briefly, and brilliantly, they flashed before us in the early Nineties, sounding like Marc Bolan fronting My Bloody Valentine. The lineup was: Ben Bentley (guitar, vocals), Roy Priest (lead guitar), Dave Priest (bass), Paul Collins (drums) [Gavin Priest replaced Dave Priest on bass before the recording of the final single]. The band were signed to Rough Trade in the early 90s; the music press linked them to what they saw as a Glam revival movement at the time, citing the then emerging band Suede as one of the prime movers in the imagined scene. The music press tipped Sweet Jesus as one to watch for the future, along with such contemporaries as PJ Harvey and the aforementioned Suede. Unfortunately, the collapse of Rough Trade led to the group's premature demise, leaving a legacy of four marvellous singles.
Sweet Jesus then mutated into the band Venus, issuing the Morrissey-esque single 'No. 1 Fan' and the album 'Miss Paris' on PVC Records in 1994. Lineup: Ben Bentley (guitar, vocals), Roy Priest (lead guitar), Gavin Priest (bass), Vicky Gwinnut (drums). Ben and Gavin (who switched to guitar) went on to form Groupie, who released two fine singles on the Sacred Heart label in 1997. Unfortunately, despite this promising start, the label ran into problems which put an end to the band's releases.

Really obscure and unknown indie band from UK, released few singles on various labels from 1995 to 1998. I've tried to find some info on the net, who are the band members, short biography about the band, but there's nothing to find.
Also there is no info on Discogs for ''As Big As It Gets'' album, i only found on Amazon that this is probably compilation of their material released in Japan. Great album from this hard to find band.

Kinky Machine - 10 Second Bionic Man
KINKY MACHINE
10 Second Bionic Man
1994 Oxygen
Notes :
The band was formed in West London in late 1991 by Louis Eliot (vocals, guitar) and Julian Fenton (drums), adding Johnny Bull (guitar), and Malcolm Pardon (bass guitar). After signing to the Lemon label and releasing two singles in 1992, both hits on the UK Independent Chart, third single "Supernatural Giver" was a minor hit, and they were signed to MCA Records offshoot Oxygen. Further minor hits followed with "Shockaholic", which preceded their eponymous debut album, "Going Out With God", by which time Pardon had been replaced by Nick Powell, and "10 Second Bionic Man", before their second album, Bent, was released in 1994. They toured with Ned's Atomic Dustbin and Manic Street Preachers, and drew comparisons with Pulp and Mott the Hoople, with Allmusic identifying influences from glam rock, punk rock, and Sergeant Pepper-era Beatles, and The Encyclopedia of Popular Music author Colin Larkin also comparing the band to The Only Ones. They moved on to East West Records for a final single, "London Crawling", before splitting up in 1995 after Fenton had joined The Lightning Seeds, to be briefly replaced by Anthony Christmas. They had become disillusioned with the Britpop sound, with several of the bands that had supported them in the past (including Supergrass and Elastica) overtaking them and becoming prime movers in the scene, Eliot explaining "When we started, we were delving into British pop music for influences, from the Kinks and the Jam and Clash to the Beatles. All that Britpop became very boring." Eliot and Bull re-emerged in 1996 with Rialto, with Eliot later recording with a new band, the Embers.
