RUBBER ORANGE
Rubber Orange EP
1991 Zest Communications
Notes:
Amazing single from obscure early 90's Manchester indie band Rubber Orange. Band was formed by the members of late 80's indie band The Jerks. They released one single ''Rubber Orange EP'' on their own label Zest Communications.
Band members were Lee 'Drany' Dransfield (guitar), Warren Wrigley (bass), Andy Price (drums), David Gill (keyboards) and Lee Severin (vocals) who came from another great Manchester band called Too Much Texas. One of the members of Too Much Texas was Tom Hingley from Inspiral Carpets.
After Rubber Orange, Lee Severin formed britpop band Jubilee and released two singles on Silvertone Records.

Goodnight Said Florence - Ov / Blu
GOODNIGHT SAID FLORENCE
Ov / Blu
1991 Different Class Records
Notes :
Anyone remember this madchester band from Wrexham, Wales ?
They released cassette single ''Acid'' in 1990 & 12'' single ''Ov / Blu'' in 1991. If anyone have good mp3 copy of this version of ''Ov / Blu'' single, please leave comment.
Goodnight Said Florence were famous for their Submarine t-shirts, armed with a strong demo called ‘Acid’ under their belts. They were a band that almost made it; they had it all, the music, and the publicity, the following, and even had their CD featured on TVs Tomorrow’s World. The marketing ploy was simple; the Submarine symbol was used more than their GNSF name, to the extent that people thought that Submarine was their name rather than a song title. Goodnight Said Florence signed to Different Class records, changed the line-up, and disappeared without a trace.

Thin Gypsy Thieves - Perfection EP
THIN GYPSY THIEVES
Perfection EP
1992 Yellow Moon Records
Notes :
Early 90's UK indie band that i discovered through one of The Sound Of Lemington Spa volumes, great compilations where you can find obscure indie bands from late 80's - early 90's period. I can't find any information about Thin Gypsy Thieves on the net, it seems that they released only one single "Perfection EP" in 1992 on unknown and probably their own label - Yellow Moon Records.
It will be great if anyone have info about the band or have some demos or unreleased tracks.

2 Lost Sons - Welcome To The World Of 2 Lost Sons
2 LOST SONS
Welcome To The World Of 2 Lost Sons
1992 Savage Records
''Welcome To The World Of 2 Lost Sons'' certainly is one of those great albums which was criminally ignored at
the time of release (1992) mainly due to the incompetence of the record label,management/promotion and/or distribution - perhaps most obviously
signified by the non-release of the album in the band's British
homeland.
Album starts off well with the Beatle-ish 'Knowing U' followed by the stylish 'World Turned Upside Down'.
The
majestic beauty that is 'I Can't Wait' (the next track on the album, and
a particular favourite of long-time fan Steve Lamacq) is the Sons
"Hit-that-Should-Have-Been" (again with the correct promotion &
airplay you would expect this to have taken off big time). PURE CLASS.
The band's single from 1990 'I Feel Fine' is also included, a glorious
Wonder Stuff/Stone Roses-type track - along with the blistering 'Shoot!'
and perhaps the most political track on this album - 'Water Into Wine'
which is a song lambasting the then-Tory British Government's
privatisation/sell-offs of the nationalised industries.
Despite
bright production from the highly regarded Pat Collier, the second half
of the album falters somewhat although 'Rainbow You' certainly has
potential - but it does seem a great shame that the music of 2 Lost Sons
and the songwriting genius of Phil & Pete Downing didn't achieve
quite the success that it deserved.

The Honey Turtles - Don't You Know
THE HONEY TURTLES
Don't You Know
1991 Pulse-8 Records
The Honey Turtles were a baggy band that existed in the early 90’s who came from the Wolverhampton area. It was the era of the Madchester sound…shuffly drum beats and wah wah guitars. Biggest claim to fame was probably supporting The Charlatans on their first UK headlining tour at the start of the 90's. The band also supported the Stone Roses, Ned's Atomic Dustbin, Blue Aeroplanes and the Mighty Lemon Drops amongst others. They released one great single "Don't You Know" and white label promo with remixes of this track.

The Dylans - Mary Quant In Blue (Japan Promo)
THE DYLANS
Mary Quant In Blue (Japan Promo)
1992 Situation Two / Alfa Records
The Dylans were baggy band from Sheffield. The band was formed in early 1990 by former 1,000 Violins guitarist, songwriter, and occasional singer Colin Gregory, now on bass guitar, Jim Rodger (guitar), and Andy Curtis (guitar). They soon recruited Quentin Jennings (keyboards) and Garry Jones (drums), continuing 1,000 Volins sixties-tinged retro style, but with a nod to the “baggy” scene of the time. The band were signed to Beggars Banquet Records’ “indie” subsidiary Situation Two (RCA Records in the United States), who released their debut single, “Godlike” in January 1991, which reached the top 10 of the UK Indie Chart. They subsequently replaced Curtis with Andy Cook, and released follow-up singles “Lemon Afternoon” and “Planet Love”, before the band’s Stephen Street-produced self-titled debut album was released in October 1991. After extensive touring, the band returned in 1992 with the “Mary Quant in Blue” single, but further line-up changes ensued, with Jones and Jennings leaving, to be replaced by Craig Scott and Mike Glover. With interest in the band growing in the United States, the band were signed to Atlantic Records, moving to the main Beggars Banquet roster in the UK for subsequent releases. Two further singles were followed by the band’s swansong 1994 album, Spirit Finger. In the face of disappointing sales, the band split later that year.

The Apple Creation - Gifthorse EP
THE APPLE CREATION
Gifthorse EP
1992 Amy Records
Notes :
The second release from the 90's Essex-based Apple Creation is something of a lost gem. The four piece band enjoyed rabid popularity at the start of the decade before succumbing to personnel squabbles and line-up changes that ultimately brought about their demise. The good news is that their recorded output - this EP and its predecessor, The Instant EP - both feature the band's classic line-up: Andy Mckay (Vocals, guitar), Simon Mortimer (drums and later of Mantaray), Johnny Nightingale (Bass) and Pete Saveall (Guitar, backing vocals). Mckay/Saveall were responsible for most of the band's output although songs were often credited to the band to reflect everyone's contribution to the overall sound.
The Gifthorse EP features four songs - the excellent, anthemic and string-laden Blood & Sunset, which was BBC Radio 1 playlisted; Beautiful Fool, a modern psych classic resplendant with slide guitar; Wishing Queen is a slightly daft but ultimately groovy dance/rock crossover propelled by Nightingale's relentlessly funky bass. Finally, One In A Mirror, a swirly Doors-ian slab of psych which begins with a nihilistic call to arms: "If we take a trip, let's crash the car..."
Apple Creation didn't quite make the major league, but they did make two good EP's. Seek 'em out people. And play loud!

Formed by Dominic Silvani, Penelope's Web were around for some years between the mid 80's - early 90's. Other band members were Gavin Abbs (guitar), John Thompson (bass) and Steve Oldham (drums).
During that time the band released two 12" singles. 'The Gap' EP was put out on their own label M.T.G. Records in 1987. At the end of the 80's the band signed to Cherry Red for their second EP ''Potboiler'' which was released eventually in 1990. Riverside - Taste
RIVERSIDE
Taste
2002 Swirlsongs
Notes :
Riverside's Taste is the album the group's label thought nobody wanted to hear. Originally scheduled for release in 1994, Taste was shelved by Sire Records, and the band distributed it themselves via the Internet as a six-track cassette. Considering that Sire dominated the market on new wave guitar pop acts during the '80s, the label's indifference to Taste is baffling. Perhaps alternative radio's shift from British post-punk to grunge in the '90s helped with their decision. Unlike Riverside's 1992 debut LP, One, the group actually acknowledges the existence of grunge on Taste, namely in the feedback-drenched title track and the sudden bursts of fuzz on "Marvel" and "Indiana." However, the album never gets too loud; the band walks a tightrope between updating their sound and keeping their '80s stylings intact. Riverside's songs are often soaked in dreamy riffs; telling each track apart on One isn't easy, but the group shows more versatility here. The spiraling guitars in "Marvel" and the downbeat, New Order-esque basslines in "Low Down" are complemented with keener hooks than the band was capable of on One. It takes a few spins for Taste to kick in; its beauty is too subtle to fully absorb on first listen. "I will rescue you with my music strings," Keith Kochanowicz sings on "Indiana," a heartfelt promise sadly unheard because of changing tastes.
