WANTED: Magik - Don't Look Now & Voice Of A Generation
Notes :
I'm looking for early 90's indie dance band from UK called MAGIK. They released two singles in 1993, "Don't Look Now" and "Voice Of A Generation / Save Me", both for M&G label.
On the back cover of "Don't Look Now" there is info that single is taken from forthcoming M&G album titled "Magik". It seems that they also recorded album that was never released for some reason.
And that will be interesting to find. Anybody have more info or copy of two CD singles from Magik ???
I've tried to find more info on Discogs (my favourite site) and discovered that this is same band as Magik Roundabout, indie dance band who released two singles in 1991, "Everlasting Day" and "All Brolen Down", also for M&G label. They started as Magik Roundabout and later changed name to Magik.
Tracks on all 4 singles are written by Peter van der Fluit, Scott Duncan and J. Chong, it's possible that these are names of the band members.

Joyland - Sun (Mini Album)
JOYLAND
Sun
1995 Noisebox Records
Notes :
Early 90's UK indie band from Norwich. Band members were Simon Faraday-Drake (vocals & guitar), Gary Hall (bass) and John Larkins (drums).
The band really took off when Simon joined a fledgling version of the band formed by John, Gary and Andy Croft. When Andy left, Simon began writing the songs and developed the sound of the band (a kind of Ride-meets-Teenage Fanclub affair). This line-up recorded the material for the Noisebox releases in 1994/1995. In 1996, Gary left and was replaced by Pete Morgan for a few gigs and some aborted demos were recorded. Mark Osbourne joined on lead guitar and the band had transformed themselves into Real Universal by the autumn of 1996 after annoying complications with another band called Joyland.
They released one mini LP ''Sun" in 1995 and self released cassette EP called ''Spoon Fed" in 1993.

Nine Ways To Sunday - 9 Ways To Sunday
NINE WAYS TO SUNDAY
9 Ways To Sunday
1990 Giant Records
Notes :
Nine Ways to Sunday enter the '90s with an undying affection for the preceding decade. The band's self-titled debut from 1990 is almost like an essay on mid-'80s college radio sounds: crooned vocals; jangling guitars; shimmering keyboards; and hyperactive, propulsive drums. Like The Ocean Blue, Nine Ways to Sunday are an American group with an English crush. However, their sound is more stripped down than The Ocean Blue's. Nine Ways to Sunday could be seen as predecessors to Jars of Clay, at least in spirit. As with Jars of Clay, Nine Ways to Sunday perform acoustic rock that transcends the limitations of the genre. "Midnight Train," the opening track, has toe-tapping percussion that quickly snags the ears. "Get Back Home" is as pretty and moody as the British artists -- probably The The or Echo & the Bunnymen -- who most likely inspired it. The lyrics aren't deep or weird like many of the songs from the band's '80s new wave heroes, but they're sung nicely. "The Means Become the End" is a dead ringer for Lloyd Cole, and the synthesizer-laden "I Survive" could easily be mistaken for a New Order rarity. Released a year before grunge kicked new wave and most English music off of alternative radio, 9 Ways to Sunday is a fond farewell to the crystal days of '80s post-punk.

Age Of Chance - Mecca
AGE OF CHANCE
Mecca
1990 Virgin
Notes :
Age Of Chance were a British alternative rock-dance crossover band from Leeds, England, active from 1985 to 1991. They were perhaps most known for their mutant metallic cover of Prince's "Kiss". Musically they were a sonic collision of punk, hip hop, industrial rock and Northern soul. Steven E provided a distinctive strident nasal vocal style, often employing a megaphone. He left the band before 'Mecca'. Striking cover art visuals were a collaboration between the group and The Designers Republic, who would go on to graphic design fame. They were contemporaries of Pop Will Eat Itself, whose music also featured rock guitar, dance beats and copious samples, and other early UK samplist groups such as Coldcut and The JAMMs.

Animals That Swim - The Greenhouse EP
ANIMALS THAT SWIM
The Greenhouse EP
1996 Elemental Records
Notes :
Animals That Swim are a musical group formed in 1989 in London, England by brothers Hugh Barker (guitar) and Hank Starrs (vocals and drums). Eventually, a third brother joined the line-up, Al Barker (guitar), along with Del Crabtree on trumpet. The group have had numerous bassists: Charlie Luciano (original line-up), Crabtree, Dave Harris, Lenie Mets, Anthony Coote and Terry De Castro.
Animals That Swim released their first single, "King Beer", in 1992 on their own Beachheads In Space label, but came to wider attention with their next two singles, "Roy" (which took the form of an imaginary conversation with the ghost of Roy Orbison) and the 50 Dresses EP. The group won critical acclaim for their mixture of "slice of life" lyrics and magic realism, and their distinctive use of the trumpet as a lead instrument.
The group have released three studio albums - Workshy (1994), I Was The King, I Really Was The King (1996) and Happiness From A Distant Star (2001) - plus a compilation album, Faded Glamour - The Best of Animals That Swim (2004).
''Greenhouse EP'' is single taken from "I Was The King, I Really Was The King" album, all three tracks are absolutely amazing.

Robinson - The Soup EP
ROBINSON
The Soup EP
1992 Great Expectations & Music
Notes :
Obscure early 90's indie band from Manchester, released one single "The Soup EP" in 1992.
Band members were Mano McLaughlin (vocals & guitar), Stephen Lowe (bass), Martin Wren (drums & vocals) and Andrew Melchior (keyboards).
Later changed their name to Fireproof and released one single "Real Life" in 1996 for Chrysalis.
I found info on Discogs that Mano McLaughlin and Stephen Lowe, together with Alan Davidson on drums, released two singles as Mr Robinson, first single was "Gavin Give Me The Gun" released in 1989, second was called "Star" released in 1990, both on Lonesome Records. It's obvious that they started as Mr Robinson, later changed their name to Robinson.
Two of the band members, Martin Wren & Andrew Melchior during the early 90's were in other band called Obimen and released two singles ''Gotta See Jane" and "My Friend Jack", both in 1991 for Receiver Records Limited.
Very interesting band, there are two videos on youtube, i want this band for my collection, if anyone have copies, please leave comment.

Anna were a four piece indie band from Croydon, England. The band consisted of four members: Pete Uglow (guitar / vocals), Darren Lynch (guitar), Philip Lynch (bass guitar) and Cormac (drums / percussion / backing vocals).
They released one album ''101-ism'' in 1993 and four singles.
''Coming Down'' was their last single, including great remix as always by Steve Osborne. It will be interesting to find 12'' vinyl version with three remixes of Coming Down. Anyone have copy?

BLUNDER
The Inconsolable EP
1996 Blague
Notes :
Really obscure 90's indie band from UK. I've tried to find some info on discogs, last.fm, wikipedia, rateyourmusic, usual places but there is nothing, like this great band never existed.
All i know is that they released three singles "Inconsolable EP", "Get What's Coming" and "Girlfriend", all for Blague Records, maybe that was their label.
From cd cover i found that band members were: James (vocals & guitar), Jek (bass), Karl (drums) and Andy (hammond)
Anyone remembers this band, have some info to share on the blog? Did they released more singles or maybe album?

School Of Fish - 3 Strange Days
SCHOOL OF FISH
3 Strange Days
1991 Capitol Records
Notes :
School of Fish was an alternative rock band which was formed in 1989 and disbanded in 1994.
The core members were Josh Clayton-Felt and Michael Ward who would play club dates in Los Angeles, California as a duo accompanied by programmed drums and bass. The band signed with Capitol Records in 1990 and released their first single on that same year on 7-inch vinyl. Their self-titled debut ''School of Fish'' was released in March 1991, followed by their first single ''Three Strange Days''. Also during the same year, they appeared on a KROQ concert disc called the Acoustic Christmas. Their second album ''Human Cannonball'' was released in 1993. The album did not sell very well and was not as successful as the self-titled album. Shortly thereafter, the band broke up.
