From PaulSS: Definitely, the wrap...

My goal for Challenge XI was to add to my collection of 28mm Napoleonics and I certainly started off with that, my first post being some French officers and ADC's

Continued throught the challenge with that, here are some Hanoverian landwehr

And even finished with a Parisienne mob.

My final 28mm Napoleonics Duel Totalizer being 28 mounted, 152 foot, 3 guns, 1 boat.

It was not all Napoleonics though, I also had plenty of other diversions while I meandered the Challenge Chambers, including plenty of livestock and many a Sarah the Sorceress entry.

A rare foray into the Arthurian collection that has laid dormant many years.

And even a little bit of WWII

Many thanks to Curt the Overlord and all the tireless minions who make this possible.

Everything is now boxed up for the trip back to the UK, and there is the wrap!

Hope to see you all again next year.

From PaulSS: [Lair of the Great Beast] Parisienne Mob - and Bob (75pts)

The past few weeks have been given over to packing for our impending move back to the UK, but there is time for one last entry before the challenge draws to a close.

Lair of the Great Beast: Yes, we know the map says ‘ Lair of the Spider’, but the spider was forced out by several things which are monstrous and nightmarish, terrifying and humongous.  Shhhh…. If you’re very quiet, they may not notice we’re here… Do up a figure describing one of these great beasties.

Do not provoke the Parisienne Mob, waking this beast will result in carnage on a scale never before seen.

This is a great collection of figures from the Eureka Miniatures French Mob set.

This beast is certainly angry about something, cake maybe? You can even furnish them with Guillotine if you so desire.

There's bags of character in this set, the knitting crones, the beefy armed potato saleswoman, the child on his fathers shoulders and a trio of veterans.

Provoking this beast is ill advised!

Also, this is Bob Wainwright, Bob's not entirely sure why he is here, but there are wheels to be made so he's going to make them.

Bob's left over from the set that included the armourers I did earlier in the challenge. Also from Eureka Miniatures.

It's traditional to do a round up of the figures you painted over the challenge, so, they are all* included in this photo ;)
(*Not quite true, these figures in this entry are going to be bubble wrapped and put in one of the final boxes to be sealed)
Our container comes on Tuesday.

Ten 28mm figures, plus 5pts combined for the "saw horse" and child  and the location bonus will add 75 points to my total.

I've tagged Sarah the Sorceress for this post two as four of the nine mob members fall into the category

28mm Napoleonics Duel Totalizer: 28 mounted, 152 foot, 3 guns, 1 boat.

I'm very happy with my total of approximately 1693 points, I never thought that I'd be able to prepare for the move and get so much done.

It would have been great to have completed all the Chambers of Challenge location but, it was clear these past few weeks I was never going to get done "The Hall of Heroes", "Graveyard Beach" and finally present tribute at "The Altar of the Snow Lord" with all the packing that needed to be done.

From PaulSS: [The Snow Lord’s Treasury] Tax Collector (25pts)

The Snow Lord’s Treasury:  Your challenge in this Chamber is to paint a figure, unit or vignette featuring treasure of any kind.  Go crazy with figures carrying gold, jewels, silver bullion, priceless artefacts, Elven-rings or strong-boxes with bundles of Confederate dollars!

The treasury needs constant replenishment, these huge armies and palaces don't pay for themselves so this tax collector has been sent out to ensure that the peasantry contribute their Écu to the cause.

The tax collector is a "Government Representative on Mission" from Eureka Miniatures his stern gaze and pot-metal sword should be enough to convince the Third Estate to contribute their measly tithe. The size of his chest represents the low expectations of the haul. I had planned to use a bigger chest, but I think they must already be packed away for the move, so this small one from the Cantiniere will have to suffice.

A single 28mm figure and the location bonus will add 25 points to my total.

28mm Napoleonics Duel Totalizer: 28 mounted, 142 foot, 3 guns, 1 boat.

From PaulSS: [The Laboratory] Fellows of the Royal Society (45pts)

The Laboratory: From bubbling glass jars to smoking bunsen-burners, from Dr Frankenstein’s experimentation chamber to a alchemist’s study - laboratories and scientific figures, terrain and vignettes are the things created in this Challenge Chamber.

When I first read the Chambers of Challenge rules I knew exactly what to do for this one.

Brigade games do a pack of French Scientists for their Napoleon in Egypt range and I thought they both fitted into my main theme of painting 28mm Napoleonics and would be perfect for this.

The first fellow of the society has rather a military bearing with the sash and cut of his jacket, maybe he is a retired military gentleman who is now pursuing his interest in natural philosophy. He has appointed himself leader of this expedition.

The second gentleman is probably my favourite of the set. He sits writing down his thoughts, so I thought the telescope from the Wizkids navigation set would be a useful addition.

The large area of the notebook he holds is really suitable for even my iffy motor skills to map out some text and diagrams as he records his findings.

The legs of the scope had to be broken off and reattached as they were at so steep an angle the thing looked awkward and would likely have easily broken.

For the lens I use the same 'non-glassy-glass" technique that I used in truck windows for my 20th century stuff. I really like how this figure came out.

The final pair of fellows are examining artifacts at the workbench, dragged out of some tavern to the site of their investigations.

The chap in the green coat seems to be holding a very early model gold Nokia 3300 while the chap in the grey coat has arrived with a satchel of new finds.

The bench and tools are from the aptly named Workbench and Tools from Wizkids, as the figures are quite small and the bench quite large I chopped down the legs a little.

I really enjoyed turning these out and they will hopefully see some usage in our Sharpe Practice games.

Four 28mm figures plus I think another five is fair for the workbench and telescope and the location bonus will add 45 points to my total.

28mm Napoleonics Duel Totalizer: 28 mounted, 141 foot, 3 guns, 1 boat.

From PaulSS: More 2nd Battalion, Kings German Legion Light Infantry (90pts)

With packing for the move back to the UK, my output has been severely curtailed this past week or two, but I have been steadily plodding along and this week completed the remainder of the 2nd Battalion, Kings German Legion Light Infantry that I have on hand.

The first three figures are mounted up in light order to make up a sixth stand of the unit I did a few weeks ago.

Here they are added to that initial group of five bases:

I then started doing a few bases in skirmish order, firstly a group of six with muskets.

Next a group of six skirmishing with rifles. To be fair, and checking different sources I'm not entirely sure if during the Hundred Days if the 2/KGL Light were entirely equipped with rifles at that time or not.

The last trio of figures are an Officer, Sergeant with rifle and another leader with rifle to use in our Sharpe Practice games.

Hicksy has certainly sculpted bags of character into all these figures.

I initially planned to do just a unit of 2/KGL Light for our General de Brigade games, but combining the troops done in the last post with these I can now field a very reasonable starting force for Sharp Practice of four leaders, three light infantry groups with muskets and two light infantry groups with rifles, so quite a bonus result!

18 28mm figures will add 90 points to my total.

28mm Napoleonics Duel Totalizer: 28 mounted, 137 foot, 3 guns, 1 boat.

Lovely job with these Paul. If I ever do a Napoleonic force, the KGL will have to be among them after their numerous appearances in the Sharpe novels!

Cap'n Wednesday

From PaulSS: [Knights Solar] Sir Thomas and Sir Dennis (35 points)

The Duke of Wellingtons staff was chock full of aristos, so it was quite easy to turn up a couple of "sirs" for this challenge.

Knights Solar:  A chamber for painting Knights of all kinds, and their knightly deeds, loves, pastimes and quests.

Sir Thomas does not appear to sit on his horse too well, maybe it's the injuries sustained a couple of days earlier at Quatre Bras.

Both however were delightful figures to paint up

A mounted and foot 28mm figures with the location bonus will add 35 points to my target.

28mm Napoleonics Duel Totalizer: 28 mounted, 119 foot, 3 guns, 1 boat.

Done! Nice job Paul

From PaulSS - French Aide De Camps (15pts)

Victoria picked me up some more troops from Brigade Games for my birthday back in January and included in the presents was this pair of French Aide De Camps transferring orders.

This vignette will be especially useful for our General d'Armee games to represent two ADC assigned to a brigade.

A mounted and foot 28mm figures will add 15 points to my target.

28mm Napoleonics Duel Totalizer: 27 mounted, 118 foot, 3 guns, 1 boat.

More jolly Frenchmen, but surely they are "Aides de Camp" rather than "Aide de Camps".

Another 15 points for you.
