From TeemuL: Sarah's Romantic Choice [Romance] (50 points)

Here we are at the Romantic topic of the history. What would be more romantic in the 24th century than Commander Riker alone with a nameless female Starfleet Admiral? Nothing, I guess. The admiral has a cold look on her face, apparently very familiar with Riker's reputation, but it is doubtless that with his honey words Riker will break the ice and in no time at all these two will be spending some time in the Ten Forward with exotic drinks and plans to continue in the private quarters...

I was planning to create a little cinematic story around these two and romance, but somehow I still think I'm in the Tuesday crew and have lots of time. Well, I'm in the Monday crew and I had a one day less time... So just boring photos. I was worried not to get the "officer red" right, but in the end I think I managed to do it in minimum effort. I first painted them with Mephiston Red and then washed with Reikland Fleshshade and stopped in time before trying to do any highlights or anything. The shirts are now quite glossy, but some varnish should remove most of it.

These two are HeroClix WidKids models, I brutally removed their original clix bases and planted them on 32mm mdf bases and added some sand. More Starfleety terrain (like deck of Enterprise) would have been more interesting (and difficult) so I opted to do my quite regular scifi sand base with exotic plants (Army Painter tufts first drybrushed yellow and then a small dot of blue Contrast paint in the middle), which turned out to be quite nice.

During the Christmas time I was reading an old Space Marine codex and as you know, what you read, inspires you. I remembered I had this old Space Marine Predator in a box, bought second hand as part of a Black Templar army. It was basically sprayed black and then guns and track painted silver, no tidying up. I decided to take a rather easy way and paint it different black and somehow Raven Guard inspired me. I gave it a gentle wash with warm water and managed to remove the transfers. I carefully painted the whole tank black with brush, which was quite easy, because it was basically primed black already. I wanted a quick and simple finish so decided to pick up quite a little of the details, I painted the guns, dozer blade and tires white and tracks and vents silver. White parts got a Reikland Fleshshade wash before drybrushed white again.

I painted some highlights with two different shades of grey, but I only used it on the front of the tank, because I was lazy and figured out that there could not be light coming from every angle at the same intensity. I'm quite happy how it worked out.

Simple free hand chapter and vehicle insignia on the front, but nothing more. In the codex there was a lenghty topic on how the Space Marine tanks are named and I wanted to name my tank, too. And I was thinking how the ships often have female names and Space Marine tanks often have quite funny or pompous names and my tired brain started to think a proper name for a Predator painted during the Challenge... There is no space to paint the name on the tank really, but the tank is nevertheless named "Sarah's Choice", but I'm not saying the tank is female!!!

Yes, before the Challenge I had a plan, so far I have finished 0 models from the plan...

The HeroClix models are quite tall, somewhere between 28 and 40, but in the past they are scored as 5 point per figure, so that is 10 points. And then 20 points for the Romantic topic and another 20 points for 28mm vehicle for total of 50 points.

Sylvain: Your StarTrek figurines from the Next Generation series bring back memories from the 90s. I like the bright red color very evocative of the show and also a very bad omen for extras wearing that colors in the earlier series... The tank looks the business and will inspire fear on the tabletop.

If you cold provide a map of your progress in the library, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

From TomG - "Tea, Earl Grey, Hot" Captain Picard - Modiphius - (Vulcan) - 25pts

Space, the final frontier, these are the voyages of my paint brushes. It's continuing mission: to explore strange new challenge planets, to seek out new life in my hobby and new painting experiences, to boldly go where no one has gone before!

Hello all, I have returned for my 3rd challenge, and have been inspired by the challenge planets to kick things off with a Starfleet trip to Vulcan. Although not a pointy eared option, Picard always felt like the most logical of captains.

This 28mm figure of Jean-Luc was a pre-release freebie from Modiphius that I received at the Warfare games show in Reading, WAY TOO LONG AGO, and he originally had a Captain Kirk companion, but he's nowhere to be seen... Sus!

For the rest of the challenge I'll be trying to get as many 15mm ACW models done, whilst also smashing my way through the planets at warp 9.

I don't have a great deal more to say really. I'm excited to be back, and can't wait to get some painting done after having nearly completely walked away from the hobby this year.

So points -
28mm single infantry = 5pts
Vulcan Challenge Planet = 20pts
Total = 25pts

Be well all, have a great first week and until then; engage!

Oh, that's a very nice mini of Picard (one of the best Starfleet captains) and you've done a cracking job on him, Tom! The red is excellent and you've done a brilliant job on the blacks as well. Top marks!

PS: Remember to put in the Notes metada, if you can. Otherwise, I'll have to send Tamsin after you. :)

Welcome back to the Challenge, Tom. I look forward to seeing your upcoming ACW offerings soon!

From RoyW: Star Trek Attack Wing - Star Trek Enterprise-era ships 13pts

This post shows some of my Star Trek Attack Wing repaints (though the white starship is actually belonging Star Wars Armada, if we're concerned with the facts).

2 NX-class ships and an unidentified (alien) craft
I plan on using the (white) spaceship as a light freighter in my games. It does still require a card base to be fabricated and coloured, to match the rest of the official ships.

Enterprise NX-01, United Earth's Starfleet
The first of the two NX-class starships, I've painted in a darker tone to represent it being the older of the sister ships. Having spent more time in space and exposed to 'weathering' from interstellar travel I've left the hull faded and the registration none too clear. The lights are also dimmer, in comparison to the other NX ship, possibly showing a difference in each ship's shift rotations and day/night hours.

Independence NX-08, United Earth's Starfleet
Independence NX-08 is a complete fabrication of my own imagination, the NX-class ships only running from zero-one through zero-seven in Star Trek fiction. Here's the blurb I wrote for the ship:

"NX-08 Independence

The last of the NX-class Warp-5 Starships, Independence was formerly a test vessel carrying out improvements and modifications at Earth spacedock. She was fully commissioned and brought into service at the end of the Earth-Romulan War, where she was used as a diplomatic cruiser and stellar cartography vessel.

Independence has the distinction of being a space trial vessel for new Starfleet equipment or procedures, meaning that command of the ship brings about it a level of non-conformity to other Starfleet vessels or United Earth institutions. As can be seen, in practice, through the crews use of trial uniforms and personal phaser weapons, added by the inclusion of several cases of Coalition Planet and Federation Interspecies Officer Exchange commissions into the ship's predominantly Human crew."

[the reference to the crew's uniform is due to my plans for playing 28mm skirmish games with miniatures sculpted wearing Star Trek: The Original Series uniforms - the ship models shown belonging to the chronologically earlier Star Trek: Enterprise.]

underside of Independence
Points-wise, I've no idea what these will score. To be honest, I'm not that concerned with the points. I just wanted to show what I've painted, then include the photos on my blog. Star Trek Attack Wing models vary in scale/size from model to model, so it isn't really possible to label them as one set thing.

From Ray

Excellent work Roy, I've always had a rather large soft spot for all things Star Trek, although I've never owned any figures for it myself, apart from some Star Trek action men when I was a kid. My little sod of a brother bit off Spock's nose, I never forgiven him!!
Great looking models though and I love the blurb on the Independence.
Now I've gotta admit I too am stumped for the points, but I'm gonna class the 2 larger ships as 28mm  infantry (although they're clearly not) and award you 5 points for each model. With the smaller earning 3 points.

Making a total of 13 points!
