From RayR Donnybrook - Vienna 1683 - Polish Dragoons 135pts

Well, it wouldn't be a proper Painting Challenge with one of my Donnybrook entries now would it?
So just to keep you all happy.....here's one!!!

My green coated Polish Dragoons were prepped and undercoated at the start of Challenge 12 in 2021!!!
Isn't that bad that its taken me until now to put some paint on them?

My 9 Polish Dragoons, painted up for my Donnybrook Allied Army for the Relief of Vienna in 1683.
Check out my last post from March 2022, where I painted some Polish Command figures.

The figures are from Reiver Castings and were a joy to paint.

I'll be using the chap in the centre holding his pistol in the air.

There 9 figures will give me 90 points.

Then we also have the dismounted version of the Dragoons.

Unfortunately at the time Reiver didn't have a dismounted Dragoon figure, (not sure if they ever did)
So I had to fall back to my old favourites, Essex Miniatures.

A you can see, my leader is wearing a clock on the dismounted version and not on the mounted version.
I could have sculpted a cloak on the mounted version, but couldn't be arsed!

And here they are all together, the 45 points for the foot figures will be added to the 90 points for the mounted giving me a total of 135 points!!

From DaveD - I wondered when the Donnybrook would kick in properly . They do look fine figures and a grand paint job Ray .135 it is . The only thing left for you to do now is sandbags isn’t it 😆

From Ray R - The Last Post - Donnybrook Generals 20pts

Well its finally here, the last few hours of the Challenge.

I shall finish with these two Reiver Castings Generals.

Both will be used for my evergrowing, never finishing Donnybrook love affair.

The chap on the left is still a tad shiny, because the varnish isn't dry yet.

An Austrian General in the uniform of regt Lothringen, from my previous post

And last but not least for this year, the General of the Bavarian Arco Horse.

2 x 25mm Cavalry
An easy 20pts

Phew!

Well done to one and all, but mostly to the Snowlord Curt, Sarah for putting up with the Snowlords shenanigans, Teemu, my poor minion for this year, all the other Minions, who luckily didn't have to put up with me and finally to all my fellow madmen challengers!!!

Right I'm going to bed!

Ray

A wonderful parting shot to end your Challenge, Ray. Two armed guys wearing wigs on horses. What's not to love?  We're going to have to set up another online Donnybrook game for you to run for us. We have to see some of these lovely models actually being used. I'll keep an eye out on your blog to see if it happens.

Same time next year Mr Rousell? I hope so.

From RayR - Donnybrook - Austrian Infantry regt Lothringen, Vienna 1683. 125pts

Its 23.54 in England, I've gotta get up at 5.45, so I should be tucked up in bed at my age???
Instead I've just finished basing these figures up and taking some pics.

Here we have a few more figures for my Donnybrook, Vienna 1683 project

These 2 x 8 figure units represent the Austrian Infantry regt of Leopold von Herzog Lothringen

I did want to paint up a different regt but this one only needed red stockings, so would be quicker.

In addition to the infantry, we also have 4 Sergeants

Most of the figures are from Dixon minis, with a smattering of Wargames Foundry in the Sergeants and Officers.

Also Officers in blue coats and a drummer in red.

Rear view!

The flag was a copy of one from Warflag, which I then changed the colours to match the units differing colours and added the orb in the centre of the double headed eagle.

So all in all 25 x 25mm figures making a total of  125 points!

I do have 1 last post, but I don't know the figures are gonna dry in time???

Now, this is the Ray that I know and love. Donnybrook AND Lacewars. All is right with the world.  Lovely brushwork Ray. I really like those light grey coats with the red stockings - they cut quite the dash. Well done.

From RayR: Vienna 1683 - Regt of Horse Count Arco 25mm (90 points)

I can't believe there's only 1 week to go till the end of the Challenge???
Where did all that time go?
This will be my last Thursday entry for my Minion Teemu to post, thanks a lot for all your hard work and for giving us all the info on living in Finland! Sounds far to cold me me!
For this post I shall leave the sunny Caribbean and head back to Europe, Vienna to be precise.

During last years Challenge I painted up an Austrian Cuirassier regt, so this time I went for one of their allies, who came as part of the massive relief force.
The Bavarian Regiment of Horse Count Arco

The regiment was raised on 29 June 1682 by Elector Max Emanuel in Furth in Wald and Cham. It was composed of the old companies St. Bonifacio, Haraucourt, Perouse and Spinchal as well as the newly recruited companies "Rittmeister Franz Graf von Gabaleone" (Weilheim) and "Rittmeister Heinrich von Ponton" (Schrobenhausen). The first owner was General of Cavalry Karl Marquis of Haraucourt and Falkenberg, Count of Dalem, Baron of Torquin, who gave his name to the regiment. The first colonel commander was Lieutenant-Colonel Ludwig Count von St. Bonifacio. On 14 July 1683, Colonel Johann Baptist Count von Arco was appointed the owner of the regiment, which was then renamed the "Regiment of Horse Count Arco". At that time, the regiment numbered 600 men.
On 12 September 1683, during the Great Turkish War (1683–99), the regiment (8 companies for a total of 609 men and 649 horses) took part in the relief of Vienna.

The 9 figures are from Warfare Miniatures, originally I planned to paint them up as an English unit for the Sedgemoor Campaign, but I'll just have to buy more figures now? They will join the Austrian Imperialist army for more Donnybrook shenanigans!

So 9 x 25mm Cavalry @10 pts each, will give me 90pts

TeemuL: Good looking cavalry, I like the light blue and warm browns. You could buy more of these, and paint more Austrians and more English? Refreshing to see a coherent entry after the mixed bags. Waiting for your last entries during the Free Fire period!

From RayR: More Haitian Infantry 25mm (90 points)

No, they're not the same figures I posted last week, although most of the poses are the same!

Yes today I bring you more Haitian Infantry for the Haitian Revolution. Woo Hoo!

The first 8 figures are Grenadiers

Once again the troops are from Trent Miniatures.

The second lot of 10 figures are ordinary infantrymen.

They can fight either for the French or against them.

In my planned game at Broadside these will be fighting against the French, for a free Santo Domingue!

These 18 figures will add 90 points to my total.

TeemuL: Excellent continuation for your Haitian project, Ray! I do like the little variation in the colours on the hats and trousers, but still a uniform look. I wait to see all those minis at the same time.

From RayR: Haitian Revolution - Revolting Slaves with hand weapons (90 points)

I've been working from home this week, which has allowed me to also get a little painting done as well.
You may remember from past Challenges or on my blog, I've been building up all the sides for the Haitian Revolution??

Well for this years Challenge, my plan is to get some of the final figures I need all painted up.
In June at the Broadside Wargames Show, I plan to put on a Revolution game There's not a great deal of info on the actual bttales that were fought, but I think I've found one that could make a great game.

For this un-named battle I need a few more figures, surprise surprise!

Here we have another 18 revolting slaves carrying handweapons, ok some do have pistols, but its the swords and daggers that count.

Rear view!

Lastly I thought I'd split the 18 into two. On the right are Trent Miniatures Slaves with handweapons, while on the left are Foundry Pirates, some with head swaps some just painted with brown skin as I couldn't be ar$ed to cut more heads off.....I have been ill you know!

So to the points
18 x 25mm figures at 5pts each gives me a total of  90 points!

TeemuL: 90 points it is. You do undestand, that working from home means you need to work from home, not paint at home? :) Of course you save time when not driving to the work place and it is easier to paint a little bit during lunch and coffee breaks or even during Teams/Zoom/etc session.

These look fine, very nice colours, bright and tidy. Non-uniform scheme means the painting might be slower, but it might be more interesting, too, and you have been painting these unofficial troops a lot in the past, so you know what you are doing.

From RayR: New Acquisitions & History Bonus rounds (85 points)

For my second entry into Challenge 14, I've entered the Library with 2 entries.

The first is a Dark Age Welsh Priest, holding a wooden cross, from The Miniatures Company, sold by Eureka UK.

Ok, he's Welsh from the Dark Ages, but I think he could and will fit into many other periods.

New Acquisitions: Give us something brand new and shiny.
He's a new figure, I bought him at Partizan in October, I knew he'd come in handy for the Challenge!

Next up we have another Library visit.....

History: In the AHPC Library History is not written by the victors, but by our painters!
This was probably the easiest visit ever to any of the bonus rounds. As anything I paint could go here!

So its back to the late 1600's for some Wargames Foundry French Grenadiers.

They were a doddle to paint up and will add a little colour to my Donnybrook collection.

So to the points

Monk 5 pts + 20 bonus points = 25pts
8 x Grenadiers - 40 pts + 20 bonus points = 60pts
For a total of  85pts

TeemuL: Very nice monk, Ray. It was a good idea to purchase him and I'm sure he can carry the cross across several centuries. Grenadiers are fine looking chaps, too. I like the non-white you have used. A map of the Library would be most useful for tracking your progress. ;)
