From PhillK: The Littlefolk Cometh (15 points)

Hello boys and girls,

I'd just like to say that I am very happy to once again be part of the Painting Challenge. The submissions so far have been tremendous in both quality and quantity and I hope to be able to contribute in some small way.

I thought I would finally submit something to this illustrious blog and, after starting about three different things, finally got something finished that I was happy with, and now will have some points on the board.

I present to you the first three gents for my Littlefolk army - eventually a confederation of Halflings, Gnomes, and Dwarves that I will be building over this Challenge and the next year, and probably forever. The force will be used largely for Dragon Rampant, but I intend it to reach a size and scale fit for Kings of War and other mass battle games, you know, eventually.

These miniatures are Shortlings from Slave2Gaming and are both absolutely wonderful sculpts and a joy to paint. I cannot recommend them enough to anyone looking to add some little lads to their table top arsenal.

That's all for now. Thank you for having a look at my first Shortlings and my first submission for Challenge VIII. I look forward to seeing all the wonderful things everyone here will produce over the next few months. Good luck to everyone.

Cheers,

Phill

3 x 28mm Shortlings from Slave2Gaming

Welcome back Phill, glad to have you with us!  What a lovely trio you've brought us today. I can all but see them fighting the Big Battle for the Shire against Sharky's gang. The colours are well chosen and the bases are very nicely done with them leaves added. Note to self: get some of those leaves for one's own bases. Might I ask what unit profile in Dragon Rampant you will give them? Light-, Heavy- or Hairy Foot? It will be great to see what other units you will add to this rather special army, can't wait!

From AlexS : Terrain, Napoleonic, RCW, Fantasy (647 points)

Hello everybody! My name is Alex, I am from Russia and I do not use doping. Today I have an important and great post. Much of what I present to your attention, was launched on December 21, but thematically I decided to put these works in one post.
Let's start with the area that I did as part of my project "fast-cheap-ugly terrain" In my opinion, it was supposed to be containers with different types of fuel, but it turned out something very futuristic or apocalyptic.

In this photo you can see from what and how it was done: a can, baby food, lids, springs from miniatures and even a kinder-surprise.

What is especially nice, in the application of the base color, my younger daughter helped me. Maybe in a few years she will also take part in this event :)

I continue my project "Visual novel", dedicated to strange and terrible events in the vicinity of the city of Yekaterinburg in 1918. The following participants of this narrative met in the buffet of the station in the city of Yekaterinburg. Firstly, it was the family of a rich man: he himself (looks at his watch), his children, their governess, his wife and a teacher of children (5 inf). I note that the children and the governess are not accidentally painted in these colors.

In the buffet they meet as quite expected people - an old drunkard, a barman, a dandy and a railwayman (4 inf).

But they also meet strange people - an American cowboy who turns out to be an agent of Pinkerton, an Indian, a petty criminal, and two women from a cabaret (5 inf). In fact, during the revolution and civil war, it was possible to meet more exotic characters.

The next chapter of my visual novel will return the reader to the village, especially since he has prepared many more miniatures that will help me tell this story.

The following miniatures (3 inf) are associated with my friend and wonderful player Veniamin (Benjamin). He is also a sculptor and the owner of a small company producing miniatures. The archer on the right is his work. In the center is a miniature, which he gave me for the new year (they are from some sort of board game, but it is beautiful and suitable for a wargame table). The ghost on the left is my work, I was inspired by the way Benjamin (Veniamin) made the folds of the cloak from the archer and tried to do something like that. I could not get...

Well, in the end - "Zulus" - this is how I call my miniatures for the era of Napoleonic war, because they are many and painted, they are quite simple.

Russian generals (4 inf and 1 mount)

Austrian General (2 inf and 1 mounted)

Polish Line Battalion (24 inf). As often happens with me, there is a shaft in this detachment, but I have not decided on the banner yet. I got great pleasure working with these miniatures, because the sculptor from Front Rank is my favourite.

Prussian Landwehr (48 inf) and a battalion of Prussian line infantry (19 inf ,1 mout). Landwehr was painted on the night from January 1 to January 2. All night ... All night long! So far I can afford it, because up to the 9th we have long Christmas and New Year holidays.

On it all at the moment. A couple of days I will sleep, eat and walk with children. But then again I'll pick up the brushes and try to do something that will be interesting for the participants of the event.

Points:
Terrain - 2 cube 6"x6"x6" - 40 pts
Mounted 28m - 3              - 30pts
Infantry 28mm - 115        - 575 pts
Total:                                - 645 its

Sorry, was I supposed to be doing something?  Oh yes, my apologies, I was completely stunned by this post, bravo Alex!  So much to enjoy and I am particularly looking forward to reading more about the adventures in Yekaterinburg.  I have to confess that I know very little about Napoleonic armies, but I am always impressed by the sight of their massed ranks and yours are no exception to this.  For me, though, the highlight was your "fast-cheap-ugly terrain" it just looks great!  I love the idea of using plastic miniature sprues and what a delightful shot of your young apprentice.

Once again, well done Alex a well deserved 647 points, (I have added a couple of extra points for fiddling around with flags!) now go and get some sleep!

From AlexS: "Animal planet" and some ghouls (245 Points)

Hello everybody! My name is Alex and I'm an paint-holic. Before beginning to paint 100500 zuluses soldiers of the Napoleonic era, I decided to finish the project, which was prepared for a year. For a whole year I carefully steal took away animal figurines from my children. So I painted them.

In my opinion, these figures will decorate the table during the games. They can stand among the trees in the forest or stand in the river or other kinds of terrain. It seems to me that this will make the gaming table more interesting. But they can be full participants in the battles. Someone wants to fight the crocodiles?

The following my figures are ghouls for the clan of "bronze fangs". I experimented with the airbrush and tried to make them both different and simultaneously in the same color scheme. It seems to me, at me it turned out.

In addition, I decided to do for this clan "big brother" - a bronze golem. I think it will be interesting for the game and for the general appearance of the clan.

Well, the general view of my work:

I think that now I can take a break in the experiments and start painting as usual - quickly and a lot.

15 animal  - 75 pts
33 ghouls - 165 pts
1 golem - 5 pts
total 245 pts

Great work Alex! Your 'Bronze Fang' clan grows by leaps and bounds. It's very good of your children to volunteer their toys to you to 'improve' (I quite like the hippo) - at least they get to play with them after your finished your experiments!

245 points for you, well done!

From AlexS: Bronze Fangs Clan (60 Points)

Hello everybody! My name is Alex, I'm from Russia. I take part in this wonderful event for the third time. The first day is always very inspiring. First I wanted to paint 100 miniatures for the first day, but that I will not surprise anyone. So I decided to do something special, interesting for readers and participants. Therefore, I present to you the clan "Bronze Fangs". This is a clan of ghouls, which will suit any fantasy-related gaming system. They are painted with the help of an airbrush.

But there is nothing new and interesting in the painting of fantasy miniatures. So I decided to show my simple idea of using cheap, but interesting Chinese products from the store with cheap prices. This bear cost me about half a pound. Then I took some material for modeling and a goblin model.

And now I am the model of this model. It seems to me that it turned out unexpectedly and interestingly - especially the part of the muzzle, where the meat and skin were peeling off and the bone of the skull uncovered (oh, that's what it's white there!)

But I thought and decided that simply conversion would not surprise readers and participants. Then I again went to the Chinese goods store and bought a piggy bank in the form of a skull. I added a few stairs from the images and got here such an object. What is this observation tower? Arbor for rest? I do not know.

Then I painted this object and added details. By the size it turned out approximately 6"x6"x5"

Then I put ghouls on this object and was pleased. In my first post I did everything, which coincides with the thought of the organizer, our Snow Lord, - there is a monster and a terrain. I hope you will remain as satisfied as I am. :)

First, welcome back to the Challenge, Alex! It's great to one of our most prolific painters hit the ground running with this wonderfully creative opening entry.

While the monstrous bear and the ghouls are excellent, I must say that the giant skull totem is truly inspired. I especially like the rickety scaffolding, giant mushrooms and bronze teeth. It has a very 1930s pulp adventure feel about it. Wonderful work!

The five ghouls, giant bear ghoul rider and the skull totem will give you 60 points (with a few bonus points added for the scratchbuilding and size of the bear). A terrific opening entry Alex!
