From RustyP - Arrows Abound with 28mm Dark Age Archers - (250 points)

I may have been absent from posting but I haven't been absent from painting.  I skipped any space travels this time and went back to my roots.  Here we have 50 dark age archers that I really wanted to get painted and ready for game play.   We game a load of different genres and these will come in handy for fantasy, dark age and even some RPG's as well.  These are hot off the press.  I put my tufts on them and straight away to the photo shoot. lol

The guy in the fancy red shirt is trying to hide behind his bow.

Must be more than 20 here! -- 25 says I...

I'm running out of things to say... The ponytail guy looks grumpy

Pardon me but is that wet glue on your shoe?

Group B - all 25.

They're actually interrupting a Star Wars Legion game.

All together as one big happy thrall gang!

These figures are mainly Gripping Beast plastics with a few different heads mixed in.  A few are metal sculpts from Crusader minis.  Not my favorite figures to paint but I am happy that I completed them.  These will get put to use in many future games.

As far as points go:

50 different 28mm foot figures @ 5 points per = 250 points

These were kinda rushed as far as I'm concerned.  I would have honestly spent more time on them but hey... they're ARCHERS!  This Challenge is doing me good and getting me to push a little faster than my normal turtle pace.

***

Hi Rusty - painting and pacing are a relative thing of course, but a sudden deposit of 50 different 28mm figures - even just archers - would count as a fairly hectic pace for any us, I expect. Well done on this lot, as they look set to fill the sky with arrows, and do so in a variety of settings. Very nice!

From Sander: Let's Get Started (45 Points)

Hoi Folks, So here's my first entry for this year's Challenge. Usually I try to do a bit more points worth of painting for each entry, but this year time is more spare than the last two years. This year I have two big projects I would like to get finished during the Challenge and several smaller ones. The figures presented here are part of my "big" Dark Ages project. Last year we found out that I am a big fan of the Vikings TV series and yes, mr Hirst has taken a lot of poetical license (for instance it was not Ragnar who entered Paris playing dead, but a different leader entering a city somewhere in Italy), but I just simply don't care! It's a nice story, more or less historically right and I like the essence of it. The plan is for me to create several Viking forces which can be used as small skirmish groups to fight each other but which can also combine to form a larger force to be used in Dux Brittaniarum for which I am also painting a Frankish force.

The miniatures shown here are for Lagertha's warband (hence the shields and yes again I know that warriors would probably have used tehir own specific livery) and the males are GB plastics while the females are Brother Vini resin casts. Actually the latter, along with a 4th figure already finished earlier, are the show pieces the BV guys had on their stand at Crisis 2015. I had pre-ordered some but they had forgotten to include them so I got their unpainted, ready-made showcase mini's.

Cheers Sander

Welcome back to the Challenge Sander! Lovely work with these chaps. I love most of the stuff from Bother Vinni, though some of his models are a little too salacious for my tastes.

I really like how you've formed these into cohesive units while still allowing them individual personalities.  I also really like the weathered and battle worn shields you've done for this unit - it really gives them a gritty, veteran attitude.

45 points for you, dear sir. I look forward the the upcoming war bands from this project.

From AlexS - Romano-British Warlord (5points)

Recently, I have read the rules Dux Britanniaum created by TooFatLardies, and loved them. I liked the idea of mixing an RPG and a wargame, sound mechanics to show clashes and attention to the creations of the players, not to sell their own line of miniatures (unlike others who shout at us: "Buy our brilliant miniatures, buy!").

I decided to gather a small army of the Romano-British, and the first miniature in it became the leader, who started losing fated war against the invaders-Saxons. So, let me introduce:
Name: Gaius Veturius Callipogon
Fraction: Romano-British
Kingdom: Dumnonia
Age: 33
Physique: Of Average build
Reputation: Execucioner
Character Attributes: Devout
Background: Son of Centurion
Wealth: A beggars' bowl

Hi Alex! Great to get another submission from you to kick off my final Friday of minion duties. While I am not familiar with the Dux Britanniaum rules myself, I have played the other innovative rules sold by the TooFatLardies and I share your enthusiasm for their game systems.  It's great to see they have snagged another convert!

This warlord is a beautiful figure, and I think your excellent brushwork shines through again.  The colours of the cloak/robe and the white on the sleeves and the pants have great depth and excellently subtlety which brings to mind the work of other brush ninjas like Anne and Christopher. I look forward to seeing the others join his band, to build on his current wealth. He won't be purchasing any figures himself with his "beggar's bowl".

Another five points for your Alex - great stuff.
