From SanderS - Fellowship Part I (50 points)

Hoi,

You've guessed it, more Heroquest! Okay, strictly speaking, these are not real Heroquest figures but an assortment of figures I am going to use for the game. There's some Frostgrave plastic henchmen, a Hasslefree figure, Otherworld Elf Sorceress, Zealot miniatures Dwarf and a GW Warhammer Quest Elf.

So here are the Henchmen to start with, they can either function as mercenaries to the heroes, heroes in their own right or crooks to fight the adventurers.

Now on to the title figures: in my pile of unpainted figures there are quite a lot of groups of miniatures that you could designate as a "Fellowship" these are the first. A group of the 4 main archetypical Dungeon explorers: a Dwarf, Elf, Barbarian and Wizard.

10 figures of 28mm makes for 50 points if I am not mistaken.

What a nice bunch of figures. The colour scheme really brings them together and if you hadn't said they were from different manufacturers I'm not sure I would have noticed. I like the blue bases on these as well, it really makes the finished figures 'Pop'!

A tidy 50 Points to add to your earlier entry. You're clearly having a productive week!

From SanderS - More Heroquest figures (80 points)

Hoi, So here's a surprise: more Heroquest figures from me. The game really benefits from as many scenario specific figures as you can manage to gather. I have managed to obtain quite a lot of "mercenaries" made for the game. These all resemble the early Empire soldiers with a quasi Landsknecht-ish uniform. I have already painted some up in black and some others in white so needed yet another different scheme, after some consideration I ended with the Ultramarines of the Empire: the Reiksguard.

There are several different weapons options and by leaving the hands with weapons unglued you can switch them out as needed. Since I have so many figures I just glued them on anyway.

So to distinguish between the weapon-types it looked like a good idea to do differently coloured plumes, they are all black with a different coloured tip.

Yellow plumes for the Halbardiers, blue for the greatswords and green for the scouts (sword and buckler). The officer, carrying a greatsword, has a white plume.

I also painted up some more single figures, 2 heroes and a monster. First up is the monster. It's an old school metal figure of a Pink/ Blue Horror from the Warp. It is fun when a daemon is summoned so here it is. Since my skills in blending are rubbish I decided to go with a classic case of dry brushing.

Then on we go towards another wizard. There's a website that's a true treasure trove for HQ called Ye Olde Inn and there you can get cards for all lores of magic, including Chaos, Skaven and so on. So having a lot of wizards is a good thing. I already have a bright (or fire) wizard but I could also use a blue one to depict the lore of air or water. It's a Zealot miniatures version of the HQ wizard and here he is:

Last but not least is a Hasslefree thief, but at a pinch, I could also use her as a sorceress. This is a lovely figure that just about painted herself...

There are 16 figures in this lot which should be good for another 80 points.

Cheers Sander

More heroquest goodness and a great looking set f models. I love the wizard, he has so much energy it's a great figure. And the sultry sorceress in nicely done too. I like the fact you have distinguished the various Reiksguard figures with different plumes. A nice solid 80 points for this lot.

From: Sander and Arthur: The Road Goes Ever On (20 Points)

Hoi There,

The Challenge has come again, the eagerly awaited painting extravaganza that binds us all together, we very few and lucky underlings of the Snowlord's Domain.

Both Arthur and myself will be joining, but this time without a set plan that is bound to fail. I have some loose ideas of what I want to paint, mainly these are my GW boxed games, amongst which are Necromunda, Blackstone Fortress and Blood Bowl. Heroquest figures will surely enter into the fray but that's only to be expected with the school-club still going strong.

Usually I would have put up a Challenge Prep post up on my blog far earlier but you know sh*t happens. So it should be up right now and you can see it HERE if you would like to.

Arthur has a small amount of figures he wanted to paint for this year's Challenge which are mainly historical miniatures. That said, my recent GW obsession has led to him painting some Space Marines in a self designed paint scheme, which is suitably '80's themed ;-)

So without further ado here's Arthur's first space marine:

And for myself, since time has been lacking somewhat I only have a few figures I can enter for this first post but I do have to post something to be allowed to stay in the Challenge right?

So what did I paint up? Well diehard Heroquest fans will know about Sir Ragnar, an Empire knight who needs saving in the Questbook included in the core box. Zealot Miniatures make this brilliant bound and free figure of him.

The sword and shield on the free figure is an addition by me of course.

Also finished in time for this post is the Necromunda equivalent of the Lurker in the Dark (sorry no puns intended Fran).

While not the most demanding figure in the boxed set I am rather happy with how it ended up.

Well pointswise Arthur has 5 points to his name now and I will have at least 10. What the Lurker is worth I'll leave up to Curt.

Rest assured that my next post will be more seizable indeed. Thanks for dropping in!

Ah, this post hits many highlights. We have both Arthur and Sander (the 'van Straeten Boyz'), tentacles and the first Challenge Tune. Bravo!

Arthur, I like your blue Space Marine, especially the two-tone armour and his red eye lenses. Good one. Tell your dad that we need another pic of you guys painting - I really liked the last one but suspect you've grown quite a bit since then.

Sander, it's good to see you continuing on your Heroquest additions, especially with these fancy versions of Sir Ragnar - the modification of adding of the sword and shield are well chosen and wonderfully executed. AND what's a dank dungeon without an icky tentacle coming out of a sewer grate (really, much the same could be said for London as well). ;)

Well done lads!

From SanderS: Cheating... (15 Points)

Hoi there,

Okay so terrain in the Challenge... I really do not think I have this fixed in my system yet, it feels like cheating, me entering scenery for points. That said, the last two weeks have seen me correcting test of 269 pupils and that kinda sucked the time and energy out of painting. I also have been too busy to react to all the excellent posts here on the Challenge blog, sorry for that.

Shortly before the correcting wave broke, I have been able to paint up some scatter terrain or how you want to call it. Most of it is Dungeon terrain, doors, cupboards and a tomb from Mantic, a table with landscape inset from Zealot games (they do excellent scenery and figures) and two palm trees from well erm China really, the wife ordered them through Ali-express or something like that?

So here are pictures of all the separate items.

Here's a close up to show that the base of the scenery is 6 x 6". In height the palm trees are a little over 6" but the rest is well under. So I leave the scoring up to Curt.

Cheers Sander

I think we can all certainly sympathize how the desires of our hobbies can often get 'realigned' by the realities of life. Nonetheless, it's great to see that you've been nudging the ball forward with these little terrain gems, Sander. I love the bookcases and that table with the terrain inset - who cool is that?! I'm also impressed by those very fine palm trees. I'll have to pester you to find out where in Ali Express you found them.

Let's err on the side of generosity and say 15 points for the lot? Sounds about right to me.
