From AaronP: Gnomes! (100 points)

Hello again,

I am running out of things to paint... especially things I have brought with me to my current home away from home.

My 15mm ECW project for ADLG-R (I think I got the letters in the right order) is going well. I am going to wait to post them until they are finished mostly cause I haven't done their bases. I need to bring some static grass from home.

I am returning home on Friday, so I'll dig around and see what else I can find to get paint onto.

Enough preamble

Gnomes

I have been sitting on these since they came out; the Gnome Bloodbowl team. Also, who know Gnomes were part of the Warhammer Fantasy deep lore???

Anyway, I though the minis looked fun to paint, and I love playing stunty teams for their ridiculousness. There are probably enough Stunty teams now to run a Stunty only league and have some variation.

So points,

I assume the Gnomes still count as 28mm despite their diminutive size?

14 x 28mm platers = 70 points

2 x trees (54mm?, they are like 80mm tall but also super easy to paint) = 30 points [Edit Millsy]

So 90 points? Does that work?

Also I keep forgetting to do labels, so sorry about that. I did some this time.

Thanks

From Millsy:

You can't fail to love a gnome! Blodbowl is such a great game, still going strong and the whimsical nature of it combined with absolute mayhem is part of the appeal. Stunty teams are the prefect example of that.

Really nice work all round Aaron. I like how you've varied the bark colour on the two treemen in partciular. 20 points seems a paltry return so I've thrown another 10 in to make them 15 each. Your numbering on the bases is a great solution to remembering who is who vs. trying to write a name.

100 points it is mate. Bring on the stunty league I say!

Cheers,
Millsy

From DallasE: Chaos All-Stars Blood Bowl Team (55 points)

OK! So for the longest time (since like 2011 or so) I have only had one painted Blood Bowl team, and these Chaos All-Stars were sitting primed in a Plano case. But my recent New Year's Resolution (host more games!) and a Chaos Dwarfs Blood Bowl team I received as a Christmas gift prompted me to get off my azz and get these guys painted. Of course I also went out and bought the Blood Bowl Third Season box set :-|

These of course are the old metal Chaos All-Stars. I can't remember the copyright dates on the base tags but they do appear in my 2004-05 comprehensive Citadel Miniatures catalog, I think they are the 1994 version of the team. Here are the Chaos Warriors.

I had thought of using numbers from the decal sheets in the Third Season or Chaos Dwarfs team box, but a look in the decal folder revealed a couple sheets of Team Yankee Soviet decals and they sized out just about right.

There's eight beastmen on the team too, four sculpts with two examples each. Good variety.

These guys got similar decal treatment.

With the purple and yellow team colours I was going for a kind of Minnesota Vikings look.

But I haven't formally named the team yet.

Look at this! I even painted eyes on the Beastmen! The whites are Corax White and a fine-tipped technical pen I have works great for the pupils.

I'm looking forward to getting these guys out on the field this year. Might even pick up another Chaos Warrior (Lord Borak?) or maybe a beastman mutant or metal Minotaur or Troll, although those are getting to be $$$.

Anyway, that's 11 28mm models x5 points each = 55 points.

Great work on these veterans who have spent far too long waiting to be painted (pot calling the kettle black there).  I love the Vikings purple colour combo, but these guys definitely need a name/logo/mascot.  Have they played their first game yet?

 55 points it is

From MartinC Bob Gnarly and the Bambi Wood Elf Stripper (190pts)

Hope the title has sparked your curiosity.  But first the undercard.

Bavarian artillery, 2 6lb and a 12lb gun.

These are mainly Perry figs with a couple of kitbashed figs as I had a spare gun already. Perry ACW plastic gun set was helpful here.
And I've had a new cutting mat

Next up a Warlord M20 scout car. Really need a gunner but the one with the set was a bit rubbish

Still no stripper yet.

The Bloodbowl mania continues, we have started a league to see how that works.

Couple of lizardmen players, they could be star players or the start of a lizardman team, I have figures i could use.

Next up is the Khorne team. These guys get extra experience for causing injuries, to keep the blood god assuaged

Marauders, the backbone of the team. All have frenzy

The Blood Spawn, big guy, big hitter, also with frenzy

Khorngor. Beastman blitzers, no frenzy!

Blood Seekers, tough, strong and with frenzy. Basically this team is mad.

We have recently spotted that some of these resin teams come with star players

The Khorne team comes with Lord Borak the Despoiler. A massive guy but very expensive to field.

Finally the main event. I present Bob Gnarly.
*
The Khorne team comes with this player, can't find him in the star player list, any guidance would help. He is a great figure on roller blades. So he is being fielded as an experienced marauder with +1 speed

I have a wood elf team made from repurposed resin wood elves. The figures are all in ballet dance poses, odd enough, but I needed an extra player and finding suitable figures in dancing attire and poses is hard. So I present Bambi the wood elf stripper

As you can see, she is definitely a stipper, her main armour is boob tape

The pose is very dynamic and I really like it. Would be better with bigger pants, although there was a nude option, and I dread to think.

Scores on the doors
1x28mm vehicle 20pts
3x28mm cannon with crew 75pts
19x28mm bloodbowl figures 95pts

There are times is I wonder if I really want to pick up that From:MartinC rock to see what scuttles out.  Not this week however, that title had me hooked.  A typical all over the place post Martin with lot's to enjoy, or make you avert your eyes.   Fine stuff all around but I think my favourite is Bon Gnarly.  He's going to have a challenge with those rollerblades on a field however, he should have limited mobility unless he's on a floor or paved surface.  I concur with your tally.

From: MarkE Orc BloodBowl Team 28mm (60 points)

We had some balls, now we add orcs, orcs with RED highlights because.....Da go fasta!

I continued with using mainly paints from the Armory Speedpaint line.  They are different to work with much more like using inks or washes than paints in most ways.  One coat coverage for all these models, so I can't complain.  I ended up not liking the coverage of speedpaint for the bases.  I was looking for that '80's classic GW base look so went with AK Alga Green since I found my prized 20+ year old pot of Goblin Green had finally succumbed to time and dried up.

Da Throwers

Da Catchers

Da Black Orc Blitzers

Closeup of a couple of the Linemen

Da Line

And here's a shot of the entire team together.

Sad orcs waiting on a team to play stomp!

Scoring wise:
                        12 x 28mm figs @5pts/model = 60 points

        Cheers!
        MarkE

Wow Mark, what a blast from the past! Those old figures have really benefitted from your love and care with the paintbrush for sure. I do like how the skin tones really resemble the old Goblin Green, I have some of those really old pots somewhere too but  fear they will have dried up as well as yours. Anyway a great addition to the Grid Iron!

From MarkE: 28mm Bloodbowl Balls (4pts)

Here's my kickoff attempt for the challenge.  Finally on the board!

A set of 4 balls for Bloodbowl. Hoped to have a team to go with these but that will have to wait until next week, I needed to get something on the board before the deadline, so I thought I'd give these a quick boot and put a (very) few points up.

I'll be working on the challenge with only stuff in my "lead" mountain.  I've got (like most gamers) a pile of projects that got purchased and have sat, patiently waiting the tender caress of a brush for years to um, err, well decades.  I don't know how long a Bloodbowl box set has been around in the stack but its been dusted off and gets first attention.  I anticipate that all the Bloodbowl mini's are going to be painted with the  Army Painter Speedpaint line.  I'm interested in giving it a try out and see if I like it as a "get it on table" for line troops and similar models where quantity is greater than quality.

                4 x 28mm Bloodbowl balls @ 1 pt = 4 points
(I each one is roughly the size of a 10mm fig)
                Total = 4 points

                Cheers!
                    MarkE

Hoi Mark, this might be a bit of an open door (as we say in Dutch) but the most important part in any ballgame is of course ... the ball itself! You have done an amazing job on the leather-effects of these. The Challenge is thé place to be in order to get rid of the lead-pile of shame and  with these  you have made  a great kick-off in joining the Challenge, welcome indeed!

From GeoffT: Bloodbowl Dark Elfs (35 points)

Hello Challengers.

This is probably my last post this year, as am away on business next week.  But the day I return I’ll be playing a blood bowl 7 event.

This team was given to me from the deceased estate of a dearly missed gaming buddy.  So I have painted it up ready for the event.  I must write down the paint colours so I can remember when I do the other half of the team.

Happy with the red, but the purple and aqua are a bit too contrasted and uneven and may need some more work.  But will be fit for purpose in game.

I think I will like playing dark elves, my previous favourite team was elven union.

Kind Regards

Geoff.

From Millsy:

What a great way to remember a gaming buddy! I'm truly sorry to hear about your loss Geoff and I hope the joy you get from fielding the Dark Elfs will go some way to easing the pain of a missing friend. I'm sure he would have appreciated your work, which is some of the best you have produced this year IMHO.

The red and purple is a great combo and the ice blue accent really pops. I know you're not 100% happy with them but I can tell you they look great to me. You've clearly got more patience than me too, painting the name of each player on the base rim.

Thanks for sharing you work with us this year. Almost every week you have managed to surprise me with something new, different, or just plain weird on a few occasions. Always well painted and never lacking for variety it's been a blast to minion your work.

35 points it is and best of luck when these fellow take the field.

Cheers,
Millsy

ByronM - BloodBowl and Trench Crusade [ 100 Points]

For this Tuesday I have an item off my to do list for the year and some more figures for my new Trench Crusade force.  First up is a set of figures that have been sitting around for years that I really wanted to get done this year to help reduce the pile of shame sitting around, that is the set of human Blood Bowl figures.

I painted up the Orks from the Blood Bowl set a few years ago as my favourite NFL team the Greenbay Packers, and painted them up as the Greenskin Packers.  However, to teach people the game I really needed to get another faction painted up.  So I decided to paint up the human team as one of Greenbay's rivals the Minnesota Vikings.

I like how these came out, but they need to be brightened up a bit somehow, maybe when I actually create the team and put white numbers on the back that might do it, but we will see.

Second up in this post are two more miniatures for my Sultanate for Trench Crusade, a pair of Lions of Jabir.  These "Lions" are grown by the Jabirean alchemists to prowl the trenches and destroy the hellions pouring out of Hell.

As for points, there are 12 Blood Bowl figures @ 5 points each, and 2 "Lions" which are on large 45x60mm bases so I am counting them as Cav/Monster figures @ 10 points each.  This should total to 80 points.  Oh, and since my next circle of Hell is Greed, why better submission that a pro-sports team!  I mean after all the Minnesota QB is set to sign a $125M contract???  To play a game he loves???  Wish I could sign onto that!!!  So with that it should take me to 100 points for the submission.

--------

Lovely additions to round out this Tuesday - I always love a good Blood Bowl team, especially while getting ready for the Superbowl shortly! Those Lions are quite something too. I've somehow managed to not commit to Trench Crusade - perhaps my Turnip induced burnout is to blame!

From BruceR - Celtic slingers, Sarah the Succubus, 2nd Circle Lust, (70 points)

I played one game of Midgard Heroic Battles and enjoyed the game.  We used Rome v Briton and I was short Roman archers and Briton slingers.  To the clicker and ordered some Warlord Celtic slingers and saw some excellent Celtic archers as well, so click they were ordered.  I painted the Roman archers (8 of the 24) last week.

There are 8 figures and they are okay, with a couple of duplicates.  I do like the mustaches and the different hair styles.  Some look young and others old, so I guess why they are slingers.  This will make 2 groups of 4 light troops.

I've been using speed paints or contrast paints more lately and decided to do the same with these.  I didn't do any designs on the clothing, maybe later, as I want them done and on the table.  I went with solid colorful clothing.  Black undercoat, white dry brush , and then the base colors.  I then highlight some of the colors and finally a dry brush with Iraqi Sand w/ my trusty makeup brush (well my daughters).  A little static grass, tufts and done.  I've also added some plugs for bases to use bases I already have to plug the open holes.

First photos were taken as a guide for some gaming friends interested in the speed paint technique.   I ran out of steam after 3 photos.  I think they will get the picture.

The finished troop ready to dent some Roman helmets or break an arm or two with bullets.

Our game group continues to enjoy The Silver Bayonet and to that end I tend to need some additional adversaries in the form of monsters.  I usually look to Reaper Miniatures for these as their bones figures are cheap as chips and paint up just fine, with quick shipping in the US.  This monster painting is another reason I've taken to speed paints/contrast paints as I'm not looking for ultimate quality just down and dirty monsters.

I had ordered a number of evil creatures for the Carpathian Book and saw a 3 pack of succubi (I  think that is plural) and for the price clicked.  Back to the circles of Hell.  I used one of the  succubus and did a quick contrast paint job on the wicked flyer.

Next, I spotted an old GW figure from Blood Bowl sitting on my unloved figure shelf.  An Orc Cheerleader (I think I was given the figure by an opponent at a tournament gathering in the past).  We have just jumped back into Blood Bowl and I'll likely have to get an Orc team to go with the cheer section.  Looks like she punched an empire cheerleader and stole her Altdorf pompoms.

I'm traveling to the 2nd Circle "Lust" with a female figure offering to Sarah the Succubus and use the other figure to accomplish the Lust Circle.  I'll let the group decide which is which.  The succubus to travel to the 2nd Circle and the Cheer Leader for "Lust"  (I'm sure there is some Orc out there who will agree).  Or the Cheerleader to travel and the succubus as the key to the Lust Circle.

Hope you enjoy and I don't offend.  Scantily clothed, yet clothed.

Cheers Bruce

Points sought

10 28mm @ 5  =                                 50 pts

"To the clicker and ordered some" - ah, how familiar that is to me, and so many of us...

Hi Bruce! Thanks so much for this lovely assortment of figures - even if the term "lovely" might only apply in, shall we say, very general terms in some instances above (and of course I am referring to the Celts here, obviously). You have done fine work with the so-called speed paints, and the results on these figures look excellent.

Your offerings for both the travel and the relevant circle in the inferno are both excellent, and shows that a figure collection can cater to an, er, "wide spectrum of tastes".

A reminder that painting a female figure allows one to travel outside the direct line in Dante's circles, but does not, in itself, confer bonus points. So you have 70 fine points well-earned here Bruce. Great job.
