Jeff B (Sgt. Guinness) - Russians in Central Asia 1880's - Outer Ring - Solaris (45 Points)

Here's my first entry to Challenge #12, just under the wire, I hope. Real life has been a bit more challenging lately preventing me from doing what I would really like to do here. I'm off to a slow start and hope to continue the momentum.

I will start with the planet Solaris, a fictional planet in a 1972 Soviet sci-fi movie about a mystery planet where the space station crew suffers from man's conflict with the unknown. Thus I present these 28mm Russian infantry figs painted in the colonial uniform for forces fighting an unknown and deceptive enemy in Central Asia 1839-1895. You see how I feebly tied that all together to scrape out an extra 20 planet points?

These figures are the remainders to a 20 man TSATF unit I started for our Epic NWF colonial campaign, "Never Trust Anyone on the Frontier"...hmmm... more mystery and deception.  The figs are from Askari Miniatures from their Russian Colonial Range and paint up nicely. I have lots more from this range on my painting bench and hope to post more soon.

Planet Points = 20

28MM Figs: 5 x25 = 25 Points

Total: 45 Points

Cheers, Sgt Guinness

First, welcome to the Challenge Jeff!

Great work with these (Space?) Russians. They have a bit of the old school toy soldier look to them, which is quite wonderful. They cut quite the dash with their red pantaloons and white jackets. I look forward to seeing more of these in the future!

From: Jeff B, Level 2 - Chamber 1 - Adventure's Landing (50 points)

The dark steaming jungle lies directly to port, the sunlight dances off the clear, shimmering, and bright aqua surf. The young LT wonders if this beach landing be contested or will it be a cake walk as his commander boasted? As the oarsmen struggle against the heat and humidity the French Naval Landing artillerists are cursing their wool uniforms. They soon, like the Legionnaires already inland, will discard the unwanted and inappropriate items and exchange them for locally made lighter fabrics. The excessive humidity deteriorates the European theatre gear rather quickly.

For this beach landing challenge I have chosen a French Naval Landing gun crew from Askari Minis. They are in the 1890's -1910's Naval Uniforms and are kitted out for a landing party in support of French Marines, Sailors, and Legionnaires fighting the infamous Black Flag Pirates of Tonkin. (I have Black Flag gunners on the painting table now!)

The small artillery piece is a French Mountain Gun, also from Askari Minis. However, this model is about 20 years old, Al has since made an even better retooled version of this gun that I will surely have to get. Askari Minis new retooled gun link.

I've painted this crew for my buddy Dan from the Last Stand Boatyard to be used for my favorite rules set The Sword And The Flame, though he's also a fan of the rules set, The Men Who Would Be Kings.

Chamber 20 pts, (4) 28mm figs x 5 pts = 20, (1) 28mm gun x 10 pts (it's a small gun, possibly only worth 5 pts?) - Total for this chamber: 50 Pts

What fine-looking Tars. As for the scoring, a crew-served-weapon is a crew-served-weapon ang gets 10 points if it's 28mm!

From PaulO'G: African Hunting Party (50 points)

Having enjoyed an introductory game of Congo a few weeks past, I thought I would pay some attention to some long neglected figures in the lead pile to start my own White Explorer force.  This is my initial Hunting Party, comprising 2 Big Game Hunters, 3 Askari Guards, and 5 Bearers/Servants:

AFter a bunch of my submission have taken much longer to finish than anticipated, I challenged myself to do these rapidly and got them done over an aggregated 3 evenings. Unfortunately, they are a bit grainy - likely it was too hot when I applied the undercoat (its been a stinking hot summer here in Sydney). Still, they are good enough for the Congo methinks

Thats ten 28mm figs for 50 points Bwana!

JamieM - now these are very nice indeed.  Congo is one of those games that looks like a bunch of fun and I keep being tempted to get it...... and then I look at all the other rulebooks on my shelf and take it out of my virtual internet basket!

These have come out wonderfully and the natty red hats really set them up nicely - 50 points as you say.
