From GrahameH: 15mm Almoravid Legio Heroica Figures (248 points)

Just a small post this week using up some Legio Heroica 15mm Muslims. I have a Muslim Crusader period army so these were left over from that.

I am hoping to use the Muslim Crusader Army as the Muslim armies in Spain as they are fairly generic. However, apart from the Mamelukes, I have painted the outstanding figures as Muslims more specific to Spain.

There are six cavalry units, each of 9 mounted figures and one unit of infantry, 16 figures.

Mamelukes (36pts)

Berber Cavalry (36pts)

More Berber Cavalry (36pts)

Andalusian Cavalry (36pts)

Another Andalusian Cavalry (36pts)

Yusef ibn Tashfins Hasham Guard Cavalry (36pts)

Yusef ibn Tashfins Black Guard (32pts)

I am about a third of the way through another army, but I'm not sure I'll get it finished before the end of the challenge, as I am away most of next week, but I will try and post what is done before I go.

Total Points this entry = 248pts

TeemuL: How many armies have you painted during this challenge, Grahame? This is a pretty one, once again. The strong blues especially contrasts nicely on the arid bases, which look very real to me by the way. Looking forward the next week what you have managed to finish!

From GrahameH: Spanish Reconquista 15mm Legio Heroica and Modern French Foreign Legion (666 points)

As mentioned in my last posted I had decided to start an Impetus army after listening to the brilliant interview of of Lorenzo Sartori on the Yarkshire Gamers Podcast (a second plug for you Ken, not that you probably need it).

Sartori is the Italian author of the Impetus rule set, and as I was struggling to decide what to paint next, listening to the interview was rather fortuitous. Hence a Impetus army made by an Italian figure manufacturer.

The army however, is Spanish so the theme seemed to die off a bit here. All the figures are 15mm Legio Heroica, sadly it would seem no longer in production after the passing of the owner. The mounted units are made up of 9 mounted figures and the infantry 16.

The Spanish Reconquista Army

Its a smallish army consisting of 10 mounted units and 6 infantry.

The Generals

One C-in-C and two sub generals (28pts)

Two Hildalgos Units (Basically mounted Knights) (72pts)

Two more Hildalgos Units (72pts)

Two more Hildalgos Units (72pts)

The Last Two Hildalgos Units (72pts)

Two Andalusian Cavalry Units (72pts)

Two Heavy Spear Infantry (64pts)

Four Units of Medium Spear (128pts)

I have added Spanish shields to these as they figures are from the Crusade Range and they came with kite and round shields.

Slingers (10pts)

A small army totalling 590 pts

French Foreign Legion (FFL).

Yet again, Peter Pig tempted me with a discount voucher just before the challenge. Having no will power whatsoever I purchased some Modern French Foreign Legion figures. Then realised I would need some transport for them. So, while the Reconquistas bases were drying I painted the vehicles below.

These are six 15mm VBMR Griffon (3D printed but I can't remember by whom) 48pts

And one AMX 10 (8pts)

FFL points 56pts

Total Post = 646pts

(Remember the Labels this time - sorry I missed them on the last post) Edit: I added your name to the labels. :D

TeemuL: It is a wonder! Me, Grahame and Spreadsheet all agree on the total points of this entry, woohoo! And what else can we expect from Grahame, than army and more in one post. :) Great brushwork once again and lots of details on shields and banners (be they freehand, sculpted and/or transfers) which will grant you some bonus points. Very nice and colourful units in your Spanish army and your modern vehicles look spot on, too. I believe you are struggling to figure out what to (buy and) paint for the last two weeks of the Challenge? Any good discounts in sight?

From GrahameH: 15mm Mexican Revolution (1262 points)

I ran out of basing materials so I have missed a few weeks. However, I have still been painting.

Over the last few weeks I have been painting two small armies for the Mexican Revolution. These are 15mm from Peter Pig. I was never really was interested in this period, but Peter Pig sent me a discount voucher and I couldn't help myself. I had to buy something.

The Federal Army

Infantry Regiments

There are 10 of these each made up of 18 figures (360 pts)

There were a few uniform changes during the war which are included in this army, as it gave something different to paint.

The Artillery

26 figures, two field guns and limbers (60pts)

Federal Cavalry

Just the one regiment of 10 figures (40pts)

The Regiment dismounted (19 figures 38pts)

Machine-Gun Stands

Two MG Stands (6 figures 12pts)

The Command

Three command stands with 14 figures (28pts)

Odds

A Film Crew (4 figs) and a stretcher bearers (4 figs) (16pts)

A staff Car (8pts)

Finally the Command Stand

Every figure that was left seemed to end up on this base (6 figures and a car 20pts)

Total for Federal Army 582

Rebel Army

The Infantry

Again there are 10 regiments each of 18 figures, but one of 19, as I had a spare figure and couldn't waste it. (362pts)

Again a few differences in the uniforms, most in sombreros and others in cowboy hats.

Below the "Dorado" (Golden Ones) Pancho Villa's elite unit. Their sombrero, jacket and trousers were made of green felt, and many had their sombreros trimmed in gold.

The Artillery

16 figures and two field guns (40pts)

Cavalry

There are two cavalry regiments, each of 10 figures

The Regiment Dismounted

19 figures (38pts)

Total cavalry points for two units = 116pts

Machine Gun Units

6 figures at 12pts

More Odds

Another  Film Crew (4 figs) and a stretcher bearers (4 figs) (16pts)

Command Bases

15 figures - 30pts

C in C

12 Figures - 24 pts

Total Points for Rebel Army = 600

Indians

40 Indians = 80 points

Total Points for this entry = 1262

Doing these become a bit of a slog in the end, so my next army will be something a bit easier. Having listened to the Yarshire Gamer podcast talking about Impetus, I decided to do a small Impetus army, which I have now started. Hopefully it won't be as painful to finish.

TeemuL: I was wondering where you were, but your reason for absence is understandable. Of course, if this entry would have been spread to several weeks, it would be much easier for me to fill the spreadsheet! :) I got 1267 from the spreadsheet, I guess that's quite right and enough.

That's two armies in one post, is that four armies in total for this Challenge? And the next one under way... I added some basic labels, hopefully they are correct, but feel free to add more, if necessary.
