From RayR: 15mm Monmouth's Rebels 1685 (185 pts)

I've had these Essex figures undercoated for the past two years, waiting for a slot in the Challenge.
and that time has finally come.
The majority of the figures are from the European Infantry 1660-1745 range
but there are quite a few ECW and Thirty Years War figures thrown in to add that civilian
style to the units, which works pretty well.

There were 5 infantry regiments raised for the Monmouth Rebellion.
All 5 were present at the Battle of Sedgemoor in 1685., where their army was routed.

There is no info on the flags of the 5 regts, its thought they got there names from the colour flag they held, so a quick play on Microsoft Paint and I came up with these coloured flags. I hand varnished them, and to my horror when they dried some of the colour had run, but if gave a wavy effect on the flags and looked pretty cool if I say so myself, so I didn't reprint them.

The White regiment
Commanded by Col Ffaulkes

The Yellow regiment
Commanded by Col Matthews

The Green regiment
Commanded by Col Holmes

The Blue regiment
Commanded by Col Bovet
It is said that Monmouth bought over "a good number of campaign coats red faced purple"
Its thought that the coats were given to Col Bovet's Blue regt.
You may just spot a few red faced purple coats in amongst their ranks.

The Red regiment
Commanded by Major Wade
Wade reported that his men from the Red regt, picked up discarded coats of the Somerset Militia
which were Red faced yellow. So there are a few of those coloured coats in this regt.

There are 5 regts of 18 figures, which at 2 points each should make Phil Taylor's favourite number
180!!!!
Plus any bonus points that may be awarded of course???

See? I told you he was filling sandbags, didn't I? And here he is, dropping the first of the cascade!

Very nice regiments Ray. I'm giving you some bonus points for the flags.

From RayR - 15mm Tents (20 points)

I needed some tents for a Beneath the Lily Banners scenario I'm trying to get ready for.
I picked these up on ebay for a few quid.
I don't know their make? I wish I did so I could buy a few more!!
I undercoated them grey, dry-brushed a lighter grey, then dry-brushed white.
Simples!

Each Warbases base measures 5cm x 8cm and to be honest there was more work
on the bases than on the tents!

Not sure how many points I'll get for these?

Dunno, how about 5 points per base for this- ahem- intense entry? Were they resin, plaster, plastic, metal?

From RayR - Beneath the Lily Banners - 15mm Spanish Brigade (250 Points)

Back down to 15mm for my next Painting Challenge entry. I've been promising myself that I'd paint a Spanish brigade for my Beneath the  Lily Banners rules for a few years now. well 5 years to be exact, where'd that time go?? I bought a copy of The Spanish Armies of the League of Augsberg, here, after winning a competition which got the juices flowing.....

So here we are!

There are 4 units of infantry, 4 artillery pieces, a stand of Grenadiers and 3 commanders. All the figures are from Donnington, which are not my usual goto company for my NYW figures. I bought 98% of this on ebay for  a bargain price. Then had to top up a few bits and bobs. They are a little larger than Essex

A pic from the back

1 Base of Grenadiers

Governor General and Captain General of Flanders 03/01/1686-December 1691 D. Francisco Antonio de Agurto, Marqués de Gastañaga.

D. Juan Vasquez de Acuña

D. Pedro Tolesano y Velasco

Spanish flags are a right pain, there were a quite a number captured at various battles but we don't know which flag belongs to which regiment, with the exception of Tercio Aragon on the left. So I picked the ones I liked and added them to the regts. All flags are taken from the book previously mentioned, The Spanish Armies in the War of the League of Augsberg 1688-97 by Giancarlo Boeri, Josè Luis Mirecki and Josè Palau with Artwork by Robert Hall available from The Pike & Shot Society

So by my calculations, we have
4 x 21 figure units =  168
6 x Grenadiers = 12
12 x Artillerymen = 24
4 x Artillery pieces = 16
6 x Commanders = 24
For a total of 244 points!!

You have been a busy boy Ray. I don't know how you find the time?! It sounds like an interesting period, the big question is, when are the Rejects going to see this lot on the table in the shed-o-war?

You're spot on with the points but there are also 4 flags which will get you some more points. And I'm throwing in a few more for impressing me with your output...I don't happen often folks, but now and again I am impressed!
