From MikeF - Horus Heresy Militia Tanks - 85 points

One of my ongoing projects is my Imperial Guard / Traitor Militia for Horus Heresy. It's a simple olive green paint job that goes on quick and looks decent. Late last year I painted up some Alternative Armies Ion Age Retained Knights to represent Rogue Trader humans in power armor to be used for the Age of Darkness H H rule set.  I decided they needed some transports, so dug out some old rhinos and gave them a 30k makeover with bits from Blood & Skulls Industry. The rhinos are about 20 years old and were originally for my Salamanders Army. They were then repainted and then stripped. As such, they were in rough shape. Here are some work in progress pictures.

The resin parts come in several pieces and you have to saw off the Rhino exhaust pipes to fit the new bits on. It was actually pretty easy, so long as you have a small saw. Here are the completed rhinos:

28mm Infantry is for scale only

The Eye of Horus displayed prominently.

I also picked up the new plastic Land Raider Proteus for Horus Heresy and painted it up for the command squad. I went light on the upgrades as this army is lucky Horus gave them a Land Raider at all!

4 x 28mm vehicles for 80 Points

I also added up my total points to date and I should be at 410 including the above submission. Not sure where those extra 140 points came from, but I fear someone else may have been shorted.

Not sure if I'll get a final entry done in time, but I'll do my best.

Thanks for visiting.

Fantastic looking AFV's for your Militia, your men must be honoured by the Warmaster's generosity in granting them a Land Raider.

Miles has only been absent for a day and already there are claims of points irregularities and abuse of the system. Luckily for you, Miles didn't pick just any old minion to cover his shift, he picked me! After a thorough search of the Spreadsheet of Doom, I managed to track down the culprit, assign the points to their rightful owner and wrap things up with a neat little bow on them for Miles upon his return from the financial frontlines. It looks like another minion entered the wrong number into the spreadsheet and you were awarded the points by mistake. As a reward for your honesty, I have added a few bonus points to your total.

From IannickM: An Epic finale, Heresy style (29 points)

"That which causes us trials shall yield us triumph, and that which makes our hearts ache shall fill us with gladness. For the only true happiness is to learn, to advance and to improve. None of this could happen without rejecting error, ignorance and imperfection. We must pass out of the darkness to reach the light!"

— Primarch Fulgrim, Attainment of Perfection

I'm keeping up with my long tradition of submitting a final entry on the last few hours of the challenge, with some more Epic goodness!

The last week as been, for me and many others, absolutely insane due to that viral bombing, i.e. the despicable Covid-19. I work for the Ministry of Health here in Québec, and to say I've been very busy would be an understatement of massive proportion! The last nine days have been without a doubt the most challenging of my professional life. I basically work from 7 to 11 non-stop, one emergency after another. But Its no time to whine, as I get the luxury of isolating myself and work from home, and I tip my hat off to all those front line workers in health institutions across the world, the real heroes of this crisis.

Anyways...I wasn't able to paint anything this week, but I did managed to paint a bunch of small stuff before the apocalypse started. And so I'm taking some time off while eating dinner to post what I did, as it would a real waste to miss the deadline.

First we have a tuple of Predator Destructors, the classic tank of the Adeptus Astartes (Space marines, for us old timers). My favourite, design wise. I always have fun painting them.

Next up a tuple of Vindicators, the Imperial siege tank based on the Rhino chassis used by many Space Marine Chapters. This one boasts the most powerful weapon of its type in the Adeptus Astartes' standard armoury, the Demolisher Cannon. Though short-ranged, the Vindicator's Demolisher Cannon is capable of destroying enemy armour and fortifications in a single shot. I was missing artillery...

My very first try at weathering. Looks cool, no?

Then a duo of Land Raider Achilles. This one is a heavily armoured variant of the standard Land Raider we all know and love. It's badass looking.

And then the "Piece de resistance", my man, Fulgrim. Fulgrim, also known in the time before the Horus Heresy as The Phoenician, is the Primarch of the Emperor's Children "Traitor" Legion. He possessed silvery-white hair and was quite vainglorious, as his entire life was dedicated to the pursuit of perfection in all things; physical, mental and spiritual.

Amazing little figure, full of details.

Here he is accompanied with a quatuor of Contemptor Dreadnoughts. My initial plan was to show him off with a regiment of his Phoenix Guards but yeah, fuck you COVID-19.

All these were supposed to see action in our first game of Epic with John on Sunday, but alas borders between us are now closed, and the fight will have to wait. Even the Horus Heresy has to pause for the virus.

So...
  • 12 6mm vehicles : 24 points
  • 4 Dreadnoughts : 4 pts
  • 1 Fulgrim (I'd suggest at least 1 points, as you can see he's no mere 6mm figure)
Total : 29 points (the sad fate of the 6mm painter).

I managed to keep my focus on Epic pretty much all challenge. Sure, less points, but my force is getting impressive and that's what the challenge is for!

Once again, thanks to all the minions, a big thanks to Curt for all his hard work, a shout-out to Greg for corrupting me to Epic, and a congratulation to all challengers!

And remember, stay inside, wash your hands, and take care of each other.

That's a great looking finale Iannick! I do like the purple and gold scheme, and that Fulgrim is clearly big enough to warrant a point.

From GregB - Epic 30k Armoured Vehicles (34 Points)

A potpurri of Epic 30k armour
More Epic 30k material for this submission - a mix of vehicles, ranging from APCs to some super-heavy tanks.

Up first are two more Rhino APCs from the XIV Legion, the "Death Guard". They missed the deadline for the last batch, so I'm tucking them in this week. These two models are old, original plastics from the 90s...I'm still always impressed at how well the detail has held up on these little guys.

Now we are getting a little heavier, three Land Raiders, the "Proteus" variant, from the VII Legion, the "Imperial Fists" - Tamsin's favourite, I'm sure, with all the yellow :)  These tanks are the mainstays of any Space Marine armoured force - hitting hard while carrying troops in (relative) safety.

Up next is a battery of Whirlwind tanks - "Scorpius" pattern.  These are multiple-rocket-launcher style artillery weapons which the Marines use to shower their opponents with scary, guided HE shells. There is one battery for the Imperial Fists.

And another Whirlwind battery, this one for the XVI Legion, the "Sons of Horus".

Now we move up to some super-heavy tanks.  This is a Cerberus Heavy Tank Destroyer, a sort of Jagdtiger of the Space Marine Legions.  This is a very heavy, scary laser array mounted on an extra-large and extra-armoured Land Raider chassis.  Fitting for the setting, the weapon can have serious side effects on its own vehicle...but I'm sure those are "isolated incidents", right?

The scariest is saved for last.  Getting run over by Land Raiders, hit by rockets from Whilrwinds and zapped by the Cerberus is bad enough - but when a Space Marine Legion commander is really pissed, he sends a few of these things forward - Fellblade super-heavy tanks.  Armed and armoured to end-of-days levels, these thing obliterate the enemy at any range.

If you are curious, see this link to check out one of these things I painted up in 28mm scale...it's a bonkers model.  Also, you can see most of these tanks (as well as figures I have painted so far in the Challenge) in action with the Fawcett Avenue Conscripts this week over on our blog at this link - it was fun to get all of these models out for a spin with the group. Unfortunately Horus' plans to obtain some lethal virus artillery shells war orphan charity supplies were thwarted, but I'm sure the XVIth Legion will be back at it again before long...

This submission has 11 6mm vehicles, and three 6mm "super-heavy" vehicles that I am hoping count for two vehicles each, for a hopeful total of 30 points. I have a lot more Epic stuff in the pending line for my painting desk, but now that I'm choking on the dust of others in my side duels, it's time to crank the scale-o-meter back to 28mm, I think...hopefully will have some of that to share next week!

These are brilliant Greg. My favorites are still the Imperial Fists in their yellow livery - they're so badass they smirk at dull pan-tone colours, much less camo.
I know some of the early models are old GW stock, but what about these whacky variants and monster tanks you've been showing us?  Are these from another company or GW as well?
By my math this puts this at 34 points, well done Greg!
