From JonathanO: Hawkins' Hill - 15mm Classical Indian Bowmen (78 points)

I really struggled on the climb up Hawkins' Hill and my journey around Challenge Island has been less than rapid.  From the hill I could see an Ancient Indian Army starting to gather.  The first to appear was a unit of bowmen.

With the route down the hill and towards the Snow Lord's Peak now blocked, I decided to take the less traveled path towards O'Grady's Gulch.

******

These are Forged In Battle 15mm miniatures.  I had over 100 infantry originally primed and ready for Challenge VII .  I managed to get this unit of 24 finished for 48 points plus the 30 bonus.  The rest are very close to completion, but may not quite make it for tomorrow's deadline.  However, I do hope to post another short report or two before the end of the Challenge tomorrow.

Classical Indians seem to have been a rather popular choice of army over the last few Challenges. You've done a great job on these archers.

From IainW: 28mm EIR Auxilia for Hawkins Hill (90 points )

Here we have a unit of auxiliary infantry from Newline,  like my previous post they came from an I'll considered bid on Ebay, coupled with a desire to get a bargain! I largely avoid Ebay now but with my need to mobilise a Roman army these lead reservists have been called up.

I didn't think I'd had them that long but I now realise I've moved house twice since I got them plus my daughter was in primary school and I am now taking her to look at universities as she is doing her A levels,so I think they qualify for this location!

Newline  figures seem a little simple and plain in their unpainted state but I think come up quite nicely with the application of paint, certainly enough detail and frankly not too much!

They was something of a throwback to the past as these chaps were bought primed in white and I've had to adapt,  I know with contrast paints white primer is making a comeback but it's still a little weird to me!

Plain shields on these, maybe the next unit will get a bit of decoration.

12 x 28mm infantry is 60 points plus 30 for the location gives me a  further 90 points, I certainly hope to add more than 66 points next week to do my bit in heading to our collective target .

This also means I have completed five locations which is the end of my challenge island tour although I hope to have a further post this week!

All the best
Iain

Another great unit to add to your growing collection of Romans. 90 points it is!

From PhilH: Springing Up, then Pausing for Refreshments at Hawkins’ Hill (36 Points)

And to wrap up my speedy Challenge Island tour, I dash up Hawkins’ Hill, pausing only briefly for a refreshing jug of local wine. It’s a well-trodden path to Snowlord’s Peak.

Hawkins’ Hill demands a model from Challenge VII or earlier. Crikey do I have a lot of models that would fit the bill. But no time, no time, I needed something done fast to reach the Peak on time. So just one mini.

Well ladies and gentlemen, I believe this model has been bought, prepped, primed and based since circa AHPC 2. Or maybe even predate it entirely. Bought as part of an old Peninsular war project, that I was working on when I first started blogging in  2011. And I think the last. I I from the pack to paint. I may be slow, but in time, I’ll get there.

The shawl was too tempting not to add a pattern to.

She’s from the Perry Miniatures Carlist War range, a useful set of civilians. Probably stretch to a country bumpkin in the SCW. I don’t know why she’s not wearing any shoes, must be uncomfortable.

And with that, eight Island locations marked off, to Snowlord’s Peak and whatever devilish task our Snowlord sets me.

And he's home! That's a very nice young lady you've painted for your own island location. I do hope there's more wine where that came from - I may need some myself if the pic-eating bug carries on much longer!

I'm awarding an extra point for the freehand design on the shawl.

ps - good luck at Snowlord's Peak - you're cutting it rather fine!

From DaveD: Sleeping at Hawkins' Hill (35 points)

It’s just a short hop across the trail to Hawkins' Hill to knock off something from the previous challenge prep pile. In this case a Wargames Foundry Old West figure enjoying a little afternoon siesta. This was prepped for  challenge 3 or 4 - I think - when I was doing my Old West collection. So why not do him up for this one eh .

So , it’s 5 points for 28mm figure and 30 for X Marks the spot .

And that sees me land at Snowlords Peak,,, OI ! Big blue ... wakey , wakey !

Asleep on the job? Or too much tequiiiiiiiilaaaaaa? Smashing figure Dave.

From SanderS: "From the fury of the Northmen deliver us..." at Hawkins' Hill (105 pts)

Hoi,

Since my vacation has ended last Monday, painting time is more limited. I did try to get some stuff done however and  therefore I have tried to finish two Challenge Island entries as soon as possible. One is the contribution for Hawkins'Hill

Silly really how much figures that I prepped for earlier Challenges are still in the cue! Hawkins'Hill is the place to be since here your entry needs to be prepped pre Challenge 7.
Perhaps you guys can remember me listing some characters from the Stronghold Terrain Saga series that features Famous Vikings? Well at that time I had bought two sets from the firm at the Crisis; one for my brother who is a great fan of the series and one for myself. The figures I painted back then were my brother's set.

Curt liked them a lot so I decided to choose my Ragnar as the Curtgeld for that Challenge. Curt implied he liked Floki better so I took my spare Floki figure and painted that up for him as well. That left me with an incomplete set and my interest in painting them waned. The TV series has progressed into season 5 or is it 6 already? and more characters were added to the Stronghold range. So last Crisis I replaced the missing figures from my set and bought some additional ones.

So here are the Vikings from Challenge 6 (my original Lagertha, Björn and Rollo added to by Ragnar and Floki and some others as well!

Ragnar (to the left) and Floki. While I am happy with the overall look, bungled up the tattoos on Ragnars head and Floki's eye-make-up so I left the tattoos off and redid the facial make-up trice...

Rollo (to the left) and Björn.

The most famous Shieldmaiden of all: Lagertha, sadly I painted he face resembling Madge Simpson...

Stronghold seems to work together with Brother Vini on this range and the two shieldmaidens on the left are from their combined range. Right of them are Athelstan the monk and the Viking mage known only as "The Seer"

Stronghold also has some Saga civilian sets and the four figures from the left are from one of those sets. The two figures to the right are complementary figures I received in my package.

A casualty marker:

The mede-drinking guy to the right looks like a Jomsviking to me but he's a
nice addition to any table.

There are still some other characters from the series prepped for painting but I am not sure I will be able to finish them within the time left for the Challenge.
I believe points wise these figures will bring me 15 x 5 =75 plus 30 from the Challenge bonus is 105 points.

***
You are not alone Sander, I have tons of things prepped from past challenges that are still sitting there with only primer on them....  I am sure most of the entrants do <sigh>....

As for your figures, I love them.  They have a ton of character to them and your colour choices are really great. The mix of colours between the different figures really makes them look right.

Now I want to go paint my vikings....

From TamsinP: Doyle and His Dockers at Hawkins' Hill (60 points)

In one of my recent posts I introduced you to Doyle's Dockers. In this post, I introduce the man himself and some more of his gang.

Brendan Doyle

Brendan is somewhat of a dandy, although some might say (not to his scarred face of course) that his colour combinations might leave something to be desired - pink shirts with blue trousers and a green-backed waistcoat?

Enforcers

Dockers

Dave "Sergeant" Docherty and Michael "Corporal" Mills

A few years ago two Englishmen, both veterans of the Sudan conflicts, found their way to Salutesville and ended up working for Brendan Doyle on the docks.

Dave Docherty quickly worked his way up to foreman, despite confusing other dockers by referring to the various vessels in port as "camels of the sea" and his insistence on being called "Sergeant". Clearly the hot Sudanese sun has had some permanent effects on him

Or maybe his breakdown is the result of his long association with his colleague, Michael "Corporal" Mills. It took quite some time, but Doyle has finally managed to cure Mills of his latrine digging obsession.

These figures all all from Dixon Miniatures. Docherty and Mills are from the Bootleggers pack - there should be another figure, but I can't find it. Doyle and his enforcers are the Street Gang pack.

They were all primed ready to go for AHPC 7, but I have only just got around to painting them. Which means that they qualify for Hawkins' Hill.

For Scoring

6 x 28mm foot @ 5 = 30 points
Hawkins' Hill = 30 points

Total = 60 points

Not to forget my increasingly crowded travel map:

Dave and Millsy are definitely complete dockers. Lovely work on these guys

From BenitoM: Oberst Steiner at Hawkins' Hill (35 points)

In my tour at Challenge Island I climbed today at Hawkins' Hill and found a long-forgotten friend, stored in a drawer since 2015 (!!?).

This is Oberst Steiner (a.k.a. Michael Caine) of the "Eagle Has Landed" fame. In 2015 (my first Challenge) my core project was a German Fallschirmjäger unit for Chain of Command. This mini representing the famous film character was supposed to be my Curtgeld for that year and also the Senior Leader of the force.

As many times happens, I painted the copy that was shipped to Canada; but for different reasons (I don't honestly remember which) the second copy ended unpainted in a drawer. It was only when thinking about what I may have at home to comply with the Hawkins' Hill conditions (paint something pending from a previous Challenge at least 3 years old), that I suddenly remember this mini.

This is a very nice model from Warlord and is painted as featured in the last part of the film: British army trousers and boots, the Luftwaffe leather flieger jacket, the officer's visor cap, the iron cross in neckand a British Sten SMG hanging from  the shoulder.

Unfortunately, I have been checking in Warlord's website and the model is no longer available, so I was very fortunate to buy the two copies.

This entry should add 35 points to my Challenge score (5 points for the 28mm mini on foot + 30 points bonus for the site). Now strolling towards the Snow Lord Peak ... and to wait what Fate has in store for me.

Great work on this figure and a fitting entry for Hawlins' Hill.  Good luck on your push to the summit, I may see you up there shortly.
