From RayR: Vienna 1683 - Regt of Horse Count Arco 25mm (90 points)

I can't believe there's only 1 week to go till the end of the Challenge???
Where did all that time go?
This will be my last Thursday entry for my Minion Teemu to post, thanks a lot for all your hard work and for giving us all the info on living in Finland! Sounds far to cold me me!
For this post I shall leave the sunny Caribbean and head back to Europe, Vienna to be precise.

During last years Challenge I painted up an Austrian Cuirassier regt, so this time I went for one of their allies, who came as part of the massive relief force.
The Bavarian Regiment of Horse Count Arco

The regiment was raised on 29 June 1682 by Elector Max Emanuel in Furth in Wald and Cham. It was composed of the old companies St. Bonifacio, Haraucourt, Perouse and Spinchal as well as the newly recruited companies "Rittmeister Franz Graf von Gabaleone" (Weilheim) and "Rittmeister Heinrich von Ponton" (Schrobenhausen). The first owner was General of Cavalry Karl Marquis of Haraucourt and Falkenberg, Count of Dalem, Baron of Torquin, who gave his name to the regiment. The first colonel commander was Lieutenant-Colonel Ludwig Count von St. Bonifacio. On 14 July 1683, Colonel Johann Baptist Count von Arco was appointed the owner of the regiment, which was then renamed the "Regiment of Horse Count Arco". At that time, the regiment numbered 600 men.
On 12 September 1683, during the Great Turkish War (1683–99), the regiment (8 companies for a total of 609 men and 649 horses) took part in the relief of Vienna.

The 9 figures are from Warfare Miniatures, originally I planned to paint them up as an English unit for the Sedgemoor Campaign, but I'll just have to buy more figures now? They will join the Austrian Imperialist army for more Donnybrook shenanigans!

So 9 x 25mm Cavalry @10 pts each, will give me 90pts

TeemuL: Good looking cavalry, I like the light blue and warm browns. You could buy more of these, and paint more Austrians and more English? Refreshing to see a coherent entry after the mixed bags. Waiting for your last entries during the Free Fire period!

From RayR - Donnybrook - Ottoman Commanders 1683 (50 points)

I ordered these Warfare Miniature Ottoman Commanders a few months ago as soon as they were released. But kept them to paint up during the Challenge. I could have been sneaky and used them as part of my final Challenge, to paint up another 2 units, one for either side of the for the attack on Vienna in 1683. But alas no, I'd already nearly finished these when given the Challenge.

I gotta say I'm really pleased with how they painted up.

The sculpting is superb and so are the poses, which helps make them really easy to paint up.

The flags are also from Warfare miniatures.

All of the figures aren't for a particular unit, but can be used as command for any of the units I already have, or will paint in the future. And they will of course be added to my Donnybrook Ottoman force that I painted up during the last Challenge.

There are 10 x 25mm figures each worth 5pts.
So that's 50pts please Greg.

From RayR - Donnybrook Ottoman Artillery (70 points)

A little carry on from my Ottoman project that I started back in Challenge 11. Warfare Miniatures hadn't yet released artillerymen.

But they have now!

And very nice figures they are too.

I decided on two artillery pieces for the Ottomans. Just because they just look cool.

Rear shot

This gun is from Trent Miniatures.

And this ones from The Assault Group.

As for the points
10 figures @ 5pts each = 50pts
2 artillery @10pts each = 20pts

Wow, this is cool Ray. I have a lot of hangups when it comes to painting artillery - the spoked wheels, and in general, just not being too sure what is what on these old guns. But you can't argue with the final results, these cannons are so neat. It seems to me that it was a particular feature of Ottoman guns to have so much art and style on the cannons - as well as having just, in general, a whole lot of cannons? These look solid Ray - nice stuff.

From RayR - Donnybrook - Polish Cossacks (120 points)

Back to my Vienna 1683 project for today's post.
Last week I was banished to my painting shed because I had Covid for the third time!!!. Mrs R works from home so I wasn't allowed in the house, (well only to only to use the loo). I was in there from 6.30am till 10 at night. I watched a lot of Netflix and Amazon Prime while painting lots of figures, while still holding the fort for work as the boss was on holiday, beer doesn't sell on its own you know!
I did get quite a bit painted, some of it will appear here today.

These 12 figures are from Barry Hilton's most excellent Warfare Miniatures!

Gotta say these are really nice figures and were a pleasure to paint up.

There's a wide variety of poses, with separate arms and top half of the body, so you can change the style and pose of the figure.

I gave one figure a longer spear changing it to a standard bearer.

There's my favourite figure, leaning back and firing with his pistol, with his Papakha on sat a jaunty angle.

Rear shot.

A close up on the flag, which was from a free download.

12 x 25mm Cavalry @10 pts each

120 points!

****

Hi Ray! Glad you have recovered from Covid for a third time, although I expect this won't be the last time you are banished to a shed...

I love this setting, and you have done fine work on some lovely figures here. So much character! The hats! The weapon assortment! So much going on with this lot! That will be a well-earned 120 points for you.

from RayR - Donnybrook - Ottoman Champions (30pts)

Donnybrook, Donnybrook, Donnybrook!

This is my last post from my Warfare Miniatures Ottomans, using a set of rules that you may have heard of before?

Ottoman Cavalry force

Unit of Elite Sipahis of the Porte - armoured, lance, pistols and shield - 3 models
Unit of Drilled Balkan Timariot Sipahis - armoured, lance, pistols - 6 models
Unit of Drilled Anatolian Sipahis - spear, bow - 6 models
Unit of Recruit Tribal cavalry - bows - 9 models
All finished!!!

These were bought and sold as a three man unit of Elite Sipahis of the Porte, but as I previously painted up a unit of Dixon Sipahis of the Porte and Warfare will soon be realising more Sipahis. I' decided to use these 3 figures as Character figures instead.

The Ottoman Serasker (Supreme Commander)
Grand Vizier Merzifonlu Kara Mustafa Pasha
Hero - D12

Abaza Sari Hüseyin Pasha, Beylerbeyi of Damascus
Champion-D10

Standard Bearer
Hasim Adem Alpaslan
D8

So my three mounted command figures will earn me 10 points each

Making a Grand total of

30 points!

Lovely painting, Ray, and congrats on completing your Ottomans for Donnybrook.

from RayR - Warfare Miniatures Ottoman Tribal Cavalry, bow armed. 90pts

My penultimate Ottoman unit for this years Challenge.

These 9 Warfare Miniature figures are painted up to represent a rag tag Tribal bow unit.

Ottoman Cavalry force

Unit of Elite Sipahis of the Porte - armoured, lance, pistols and shield - 3 models
Unit of Drilled Balkan Timariot Sipahis - armoured, lance, pistols - 6 models
Unit of Drilled Anatolian Sipahis - spear, bow - 6 models
Unit of Recruit Tribal cavalry - bows - 9 models

One more unit to go!

Once again the are 2 part figure.

Made so you can make up a variety of poses with just 9 figures.

I tried to keep them plain looking with no real bright colour.

So my 9 figure Tribal unit shall earn me

90 points

9 x 25mm mounted figures @ 10 pts each

Thursday, 11 March 2021

from RayR - Warfare Miniatures - Ottomans Balkan Timariot Siphis 60pts

More great Warfare Miniatures figures for my next post and its more Sipahis, this time from the Balkans.

Ottoman Cavalry force

Unit of Elite Sipahis of the Porte - armoured, lance, pistols and shield - 3 models
Unit of Drilled Balkan Timariot Sipahis - armoured, lance, pistols - 6 models
Unit of Drilled Anatolian Sipahis - spear, bow - 6 models
Unit of Recruit Tribal cavalry - bows - 9 models

The figures are a mix of  Lance, Pistol and Musket armed figures.
I do like the 2 chaps with pistols best. I might well have to get a few more of these???

So these 6 figures will add another 60 points to my total.

6 x Mounted 25mm figures @ 10 points each.

from RayR - Donnybrook - Ottoman Anatolian Sipahis 60pts

Back to the Ottomans and back to Warfare Miniatures!
I bought a cavalry force from Mr Hilton with some Christmas money, they arrived in early
January as the horses had only just been caste.

As with the infantry I asked Barry for an idea of a small Ottoman army, here's the 4 point Donnybrook Cavalry force Barry suggested.

Ottoman Cavalry force

Unit of Elite Sipahis of the Porte - armoured, lance, pistols and shield - 3 models
Unit of Drilled Balkan Timariot Sipahis - armoured, lance, pistols - 6 models
Unit of Drilled Anatolian Sipahis - sword, bow - 6 models
Unit of Recruit Tribal cavalry - bows - 9 models

They are beautiful figures, which come to two parts, so you can get a real mix of figure poses.
And they paint up so well.

There are 6 x 25mm figures giving me a total of...

60 points!

from RayR - Donnybrook - Ottoman Tufeckci 40 pts

More Ottomans from Warfare Miniatures for my Donnybrook collection.
And these DO finish my initial infantry force,

Ottoman Infantry force

Unit of Elite Janissaries armed with flintlock muskets 4 models
Unit of Drilled Tufeckci musketeers armed with matchlock muskets 8 models
Unit of Recruit Segban musketeers armed with matchlock muskets 12 models
Unit of Recruit Irregulars - Anatolian or Balkan armed with improvised hand weapons 12 models

These are my Tufeckci unit, 8 figures strong. Again it seems they were not uniformed apart from their red hats. But there's a great picture in an Osprey of them all in red, so I just had to go with that.

Tufeckci actually means Rifleman or Gunsmith in Turkish. The Tufeckci were well trained and disaplined troops.

There are 8 figures in the unit making them worth 40 points!
