From PeteF: Skeleton Warriors for SAGA [Books](100 points)

This is my second skellie entry from a box of Wargames Atlantic fantasy skeletons - the have a Jason & The Argonauts feel about them so that's the book I'm basing this studio entry on.

In SAGA the elite units are Hearthguard and it costs 1 point for 4 figures.  Warriors are the middle of the road units and these will be 2 points of foot warriors in the game.  I'm planning a unit of bow warriors.  The box of 32 figures will provide 5 points - almost a whole 6 point warband. Many players like to play SAGA Age of Magic with 8 points - so I'll be on the lookout for some undead creatures that will fit into this vaguely Greek themed war band.  They also have a special unit - The Mindless - which might form my Arthouse entry.

It's a fairly simple paint job based on Ushabti Bone/soft tone and some highlighting - I'm thinking dry brushing might have been more effective than layering.

I might also find a way to put these on a Kings of War base - each 25mm base has a magnet so it shouldn't be too much trouble.

Tamsin - I'm claiming another studio and it's technically out of order because I'm still using the old map - being a grumpy old geyser, resistant to change, it can be hard for me to alter course once it's set.  That said, I promise to get another green studio done in the near future!

16 x 28m figure plus a studio for 100 points.

Skullz +16 for a total of 25 Skullz

Another nice batch of skels, Pete. I'll allow you to get away with your current route plan, but you'd better get that fourth Green zone studio done soon...

On another note, please can you try to remember to include your "handle" in the post title and to reset your photos to "large".

From PeteF: Hearthguard Skeletons (60 points)

A while back I picked up a box of Wargames Atlantic skellies from my FLGS.  I liked the look of the ancient Greek-ish undead and thought they might fit into a project someday.  They are going to be a SAGA Age of Magic warband and these 8 skellies are the foot Hearthguard.  This is my entry for the Swords and Sandals studio - strictly speaking there are no sandals here because they've rotted away.

It's a bare bones project, so for flare I unwisely decided to go to town on the shield designs.  It turned out to be quite hard to get black to show up on weathered bronze.

I have a bone to pick with the designers of the fourth skellie on each sprue - although great for posability it can be a bit tricky to get all the bits lined up.  Fotunately a big shield can hide a lot of pelvic misalignment.

The shield designs were inspired by various shield transfers I found online - I make no bones about copying from the best.  I particularly liked the octopus.

The layers and highlighting don't really show up in this rear view - they're there.  Honest!  I worked my fingers to the bone on this small project.  I highly recommend all flavours of SAGA to anyone who wants an excuse to paint a whole bunch of 50-ish figure armies.  They keep churning out new "Ages" and with Age of Magic you have free rein.

Compared to many of my fellow challengers I feel bone idle with this relatively minor entry.

8 x 28mm foot and The Swords & Sandals studio for 60 points.

Squirrel +1 for a total of 2 Squirrels
Skullz + 8 for a total of 9 Skullz* [if helmeted skulls allowed]

For Tamsin: My route through the back lot

Those skeletons do look great, Pete! Very Harryhausen!

Just a note on your route map - you might want to download the updated version (with Westerns moved to the Blue zone, the Gift Shop and a couple of streets added). I'm guessing that you are intending to visit every studio - I hope you have a couple of female minis lined up for the limo rides to and from the Superheroes studio.

From PeteF: Undead Army Descends Upon Graveyard Beach (160 points)

One of the best things about wargaming conventions is the bring and buy. It's a sort of shame shuffle where you can try and offload one lot of unpainted minis in exchange for the option to paint a different group. Depending on where the new shiny urge is taking me and what is being sold at a bargain I can really end up with anything.

These old school plastic skellies (from the Evil Empire) caught my fancy when I was thinking about building an undead army for SAGA Age of Magic. I've since landed on a different faction - but you never know. Right? Plus - can you really have too many fightin' skeletons? No. No you can't.

At least the skellies have given me something to paint for Graveyard Beach. It felt a bit cheaty using Skeleton Horde (Does exactly what it says on the tin) contrast paint on the main bodies with a little dry brushing, so I went to town on the rust for the weapons.

Five mounted skellies and 18 foot plus a room bonus for a total of 160 points. This is my fourth room on the third level so it must be time to approach the Snowlord's Altar (dramatic drum roll and sinister base music playing in my head).

Classic GW Bones ahoy! Lovely job on these and while no Cap'n likes to see rust on his ship, youve done a grand job of it.
