From GregB - Hospitaller Knights for Barons War: Outremer (81 points)

Figures for "Barons War: Outremer" - 28mm castings sculpted by the incredible Paul Hicks.

Once again, the brushes turn away from the 30th millenium and on to some historical subjects for today's second submission. Here we have a group of Knights from the Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem - the Hospitallers. They are accompanied by a priest and a Turcopole scout. These 28mm metal figures were sculpted by the incredible and prolific Paul Hicks, and were released via the "Barons War: Outremer" Kickstarter run by Hicks and Andy Hobday.

Mounted Hospitaller Master, accompanied by two Knights.

I wish I ordered more mounted figures. Or, just, more of everything, from this Kickstarter.

For 98.8% of hobby participants, the arrival of figures from a Kickstarter is hardly remarkable. However, my close friends will surely laugh, having endured endless rants over many years about how much I hate Kickstarter. With this in mind, let us imagine this group of figures represents a patrol on the highway to Damascus, escorting a Priest on his way to oversee a conversion...

Another amazing sculpt. A veteran commander - wise, and dangerous...

The prospect of acquiring figures for the Crusades sculpted by Paul Hicks was enough make my concerns over Kickstarter participation evaporate faster than Tony Blair's ethics around a 20 pound note. While the process certainly took a while, I can report that Andy and Paul ran a solid process. I did start to wonder a little bit as time went on whether the figures would ever arrive, but Paul and Andy kept in touch with the backers, and delivered 100% in the end. I also have to thank Byron for entertaining my multiple stupid questions regarding the general Kickstarter process throughout.

A look at some of the foot knights...great sculpting!!

When the box arrived, I handled it with my usual 10-year-old-on-Christmas-morning approach and was soon bothering Curt, Dallas, Byron and Jamie with pictures of this latest batch of toys. While my views of Kickstarter remain largely unchanged, the fact is that my only regret is that I did not order more stuff - or score one of the models of the Hospital in Jerusalem that were available to early backers! I invite all here to point, laugh, and take the piss at your leisure in the comments below.

You would need faith to fight in the heat wearing this get-up!

The sculpting of the figures is just...awesome. I love Paul Hicks' work, and wow did he deliver here! I thought I would start simple, working on some of the Hospitallers first, before moving on to the Saracen figures later on. I paused a little while to consider how I would base these, but in the end opted for the round bases for the foot models and pill-shaped bases for the cavalry. They came with the figures anyway, after all, and I have been inspired to at least give Andy Hobday's "Barons War" rules a shot using these figures, and those rules seem to work better with these bases.

Armed to the teeth and ready for battle in the Holy Land.

Painting was a lot of fun - sure, black is tricky, but the fact is that these figures are just SO nice, they are a joy to paint. Fortunately the symbols of the Hospitallers is pretty straightforward (although that did not always translate into "straight lines" on the shields...oh well) so all of the shields could be hand-painted with minimal trouble.

Priest and Turcopole guide.

Tried to be a bit fancier with his shield.

The priest and turcopole guide offered a chance to use some different colours, and it was fun to have a go at a fancier design for the shield the guide has strapped to his back. That said, the search will be on for decals that work on the shields of the Saracen warriors to come...

Onward along the road to Damascus...

So we have a total of 10 foot figures and three mounted figures, all 28mm size. This should be good for 80 points - which, in turn, should put me past my target of 800 points - yay! Happy Saturday everyone, and I hope you are all excited for the manic final run of AHPC XIII.

Say, it seems Paul Hicks has another Kickstarter brewing...hmmm...

Those are some really nice minis, I regret not backing that Kickstarter, I will have to look at that link you posted. You've done a great job getting these fine pilgrims ready for their journey. I have thrown in a bonus point for the hand painted shields. Well done on hitting your target.

RobH - Saxon 1066 (50 Points)

In May 2021 I backed Bob Murch's (Pulp Figures) 1066 Saxon Kickstarter in conjunction with Crucible Crush Miniatures. I selected the Saxon Raiders Pledge. They were purchased in order to build a SAGA army. I received my rewards last October. Thanks to the glorious autumn in Montreal  I was able to prep most of the selection before the weather turned.

I do my undercoats on the balcony using a spray can.

Two units are ready, in addition to the villagers I posted last week.

Unit Number 1 - Foot Command - 5 figures

Unit Number 2 - Dane Axes - 5 figures

10 x 25mm figures @ 5 Points each = 50 Points

Minion Miles: These are some very fine figures and will make a very fine part of a SAGA warband!

RobH - A Hodgepodge of Figures (75 Points)

Today I offer a varied collection of figures. A real hodgepodge as I put it.

1) Party of Adventurers

This is a group of travelling Clerics with a Magic User accompanied by a mule train of supplies and trade goods. The mules came from my mountain of lead, while the adventurers were part of a gift of figures given to me this pass summer when I visited Nova Scotia.

2) Villagers exercising their right to vote. These three figures were part of the package of figures I was gifted on my travels. With torch and pitchfork they seem intent on removing a local bigwig.

3) Two of the 1066 peasant Women and Children figures I received as part of Bob Murch's 1066 Saxon Kickstarter in conjunction with Crucible Crush Miniatures.  I will apply the Woman and Child as Lady Sarah's Limo to take me onto my next studio location.

4) The final figure is Gollum, as offered by Harlequin Miniatures when they held the licence to produce LOTR figures.

Points Scored

11 x 25 mm Figures @ 5 Points = 55 Points

1 x Lady Sarah's Limousine Service = 20 Points

Total 75 Points

___________________________

It may be a hodgepodge of figures, but they make for a great review, Rob. I quite like the clerics with their faithful pack pony, and it's great to see some of Bob Murch's new 1066 figures getting the proper painterly treatment. I didn't know that Harlequin Miniatures had the LotR licence, so seeing their version of Gollum is a real treat. Good work!

From TashaH: Home ... time to temporarily put up the brushes and relax [Terra] ( 65 points)

Terra.

I made it home, my final post for Challenge XII.

Home is a lot more comfortable if you have a house to live in, so how about this beauty?

I purchased the file for this house on Kickstarter. I paid a local company to print it in PLA. It is 3 separate pieces, detail printed inside and out. When I originally provided the file to the printer, he had it set to print at 15 inches per piece and it was going to cost almost $300 to print *gasp*. I then told him what my size requirements were (again) and things became much more manageable! (Dude...this isn't a doll house!)

It can also be utilized as a cottage with just the main floor and roof.

I watched many YouTube videos on how to paint brick, stucco and woodwork. I implemented ideas from a bunch of them. I'm still not 100% taken with the brick and stucco on the chimney, but overall, I think it is presentable. I've been working on this project for the last month but it's taken me right to the end to finish! It has been painted with various earth tones of craft and Contrast paints. There is also some Nuln Oil splashed on there for good luck!

I wanted to have more than just a house for my last submission, so when my 3D printer arrived, I got to work! I didn’t get done as much as I would have liked, but there is a bit of scenery and a few accessories to round things out.

Inside the house, on the main floor, you will find a fire in the fireplace and a grog drinking fellow sitting at a table. The gentleman is from the Great Grimoire Tribes Welcome Pack and I cannot recall where the table is from. The fireplace is from Cults3d.

Upstairs I have placed the alchemist table from my previous entry, the stool from my first entry of the Challenge and this simple bed.

Outside I’ve added a garden plot and a very necessary outhouse! Both of these prints are from Cult3d

Lastly is a patch of fairy sunflowers from MyMiniFactory.

Who knows what may lie around the next corner? There may be a window somewhere ahead. It may look out on a field of sunflowers. ~Joe Hill

Taking part in the Challenge has been one of the best experiences of my life. It is truly hard to believe that I only started painting in December. I now have an entire room dedicated to the hobby in my house. The addiction is real and I embrace it completely. Without the support, positivity and laughter from everyone here, I would never have had the confidence to continue on. I feel so privileged to have made some wonderful friendships. Thank you is not enough.

Curt and Sarah. You've created an amazing community. Not only do you provide the platform for people to meet their painting challenges, but you allow for a healthy escape from the stresses of the real world and the opportunity for lasting friendships to be made. This is something seriously lacking in our world today.  You and all the minions donate so much of your spare time so that the rest of us may enjoy this Challenge. It is a wonderful, invaluable gift.

Please take care everyone and stay safe.

The points:

One 28mm figure - 5 points

The house is 5x3.5x6.75”

The outhouse is 2x2x3”

The vegetable patch is 2x2x.75”

The table is 2.25x.5x.5”

The sunflowers are 1.5x.5x.5”

This totals a little under two terrain cubes, so 35 points?

Planet bonus - 20 points

AHPC experience - priceless

Total - 60 points

Wow! That building looks fantastic! It's been wonderful watching your painting develop over the past three months and I'm very happy to have hosted you on team Tuesday. I'm even more happy to hear that you've thoroughly enjoyed taking part. I do hope you'll join us again for AHPC XIII.

I'm going to round up your terrain to 2 cubes as you had to paint the interior as well as the exterior of the building.
