From BrianC: A lot of everything! Kings of War Undead, Alternative Armies 15mm, Gangs of Rome, & More! (306pts)

Well, it's been awhile. Life happenings. But, when I had some time, I try to paint what I can. I'm not sure if I will hit my goal this season. I painted a mixed range of 15mm and 28mm miniatures from a mixed range of tabletop miniature companies. Let's get to it!

Alternative Armies 15mm Automata Infantry (15)

Cool Mini or Not Besiege 15mm Mulfin Set (36)

Alternative Armies Rogue (15mm)

Kings of War Dwarf Champion (28mm)

Frostgrave Wizard Apprentice (28mm)

Wargames Atlantic Gangs of Rome 28mm (6)

Next Level Miniatures Dwarf Bar Maiden (28mm)

Mantic Games Undead Infantry 28mm (25)

Mantic Games Undead dogs 28mm (3)

Bolt Action American Infantry 28mm (2)

Rumbleslam "Fang" 40mm

I will end it here. I'm hoping to finish painting more Undead infantry and Saxons.

POINTS

15mm x 52 = 104pts
28mm x 39 = 195pts
40mm x 1 = 7pts

TOTAL = 306pts

Wow Brain, that's a lot of kit painted.  Must feel good to get them finally ready to go.  Lots to love, but I especially like that Dwarf Champion. who appears to be clad in a deep sea diving helmet and the Frostgrave apprentice.  306 points to your tally.

From AndrewG: More fantasy town guards and their adversaries (75 points)

In between historical figure painting I’ve continued to chip away at various skirmish projects including more town guards and their potential adversaries. This post has a bit of everything in that regard.

We begin with the first half of my second Guards of Traitor's Toll detachment. This patrol is painted in the livery of Lady Merron, but despite its simple appearance, for some reason this batch of figures caused me no end of headaches. The first three went fine, but when I had finished the last two, I realized I had accidentally reversed their livery quarters. Oh well, somewhere in Traitor’s Toll a clothing stores quartermaster is getting jacked up by their superior for choosing a dodgy lowest bidder.

I then decided I wanted to give my crossbowman a pavise shield, which I sourced from a plastic Perry miniatures set. The contours of the shield and back simply wouldn’t match and every time I glued it on, I’d come back a few minutes later to find it had fallen off. Time to use the “special” glue. Needless to say it'll never come off now, unlike the next guy.

Having sorted that out, I painted the guy with the torch. Of interest, this is the first time I’ve ever painted flames – I found a tutorial on the interwebs and followed it, and it seemed to come out nicely. Impressed with myself and feeling a false sense of security, while admiring my finished work I dropped the figure and his head snapped off and rolled away somewhere (still yet to be found). So, more repairs...

Having had enough of the guards, I flipped over to my Cult of the Double Scar dudes and finished off a leader and a necromancer, thinking that I could also use this growing warband for Frostgrave. Again, some very nice plastic sculpts from Northstar and easily kit bashed together from both the Cultists and Wizards sprues.

A lot of games need peasants or levy troops, so I put together a few of the Wargames Atlantic plastic medieval peasants from their Baron’s War line. Overall, they’re okay, but I’m not sure I like them all that much. The legs and torsos come separate, and the heads are not really universal to all the bodies, certain ones go best with certain torsos. Also, the weapons are oversized and can appear a bit goofy. Nevertheless, they’ll fit into skirmish games well enough.

I've no idea what that is but it looks like it would hurt

Don't get between him and his chickens

Last but not least, I had this D&D plastic wolf/beast/dog that someone gave to me a while ago just sitting around on the workbench, so I decided to finish it off and add it to my slowly growing collection of Frostgrave adversaries. Nothing fancy, just a few overcoats and dry brushes of greys and some glowing blue eyes.

Thus, for this lot I’ll claim:

13x 28mm figures = 65 points

1x 28mm large animal = 10 points

Total: 75 points

I like these guys a lot Andrew.  Your town guard looms very much the part, but maybe avoid that tailor next time.  Your baddies are my faves however, especially the necromancer types.  Well done.

From PaulSS - Barons' War foot soldiers and townsfolk and stuff! - 120pts

A mixed bag of Medieval goodies for you this week.

Firstly, the last of the Wargames Atlantic figures I have painted, only 11 remained and have made their way to the end of the production line this week.

Firstly a couple of missile-armed peasants, one with sling and one with bow. I'm quite surprised the arrow survived this far, this one has usually broken off by this stage!

Next up the last Knight and a pair of Serjeants.

A trio of peasants with pointy sticks for the militia and levies.

Finally the last three crossbowmen.

It's the last of the Wargames Atlantic for now and I don't see me buying any more until the new sets come out, then I'll be picking up again. But it's not the end of the Medievals, only yesterday postie bought some Medbury Miniatures 3D prints for me.

Adding to the Medieval scene is this market stall. The stall itself is from Victrix, as are many of the accessories, although the crates on the right and the bucket are from Bad Squiddo, while the wattle fence is Renedra.

Points wise, I think that the complexity would rate it as the equivalent of a vehicle.

I got down low and shone in a light for this warts and all view of some of the detail!

Victoria picked up for me some of the Medieval Vignettes from Athena Miniatures while we were at Fiasco a few months ago, they are nice enough subjects, but some of the figures are a bit rudimentary.

The first is a set of stocks with an unfortunate being pelted with rancid cabbages.

The barrel of cabbages is from TT Combat.

Thinking about this, I've not participated at all in the Skull Challenge this year, but I do already have 17 cabbages for the Cabbage Challenge this year!

Next is a baker from the artisan set, also comes with a rather nice oven.

The sacks and basket are from the Victrix set, while the bucket is a Bad Squiddo.

The next pair are a black smith and a cooper, the blacksmith is probably the weakest figure painted so far.

He could really use a forge!

Finally four other figures from the vignettes, a lady with a broom, a cobbler - will see use in a future Battle of Northampton game - a laughing merchant and a chap with his child on his shoulders.

Twenty 28mm figures, plus a "vehicle" will add another 120pts to the total.

From DaveD. Nice to see it are not fed up with earth hues so far . Yes I am surprised that arrow has survived. Good to hear you have some more planned too - the collection will be epic by the end . Brilliant vignette pieces being created too even if some the bits leave a bit to be desired as you say . The baker and oven set is wonderful .  I agree on the values , so 120 it is .
