From SteveG: More Ancients (110 points)

Had an extra day of painting with a public holiday here so went hard to complete these ancient guys!

Thureophoroi - mostly the new plastic Victrix but a few metal Aventine

Octopus shield in middle free handed.

Easter Phalangites - from Succersor Phalangites by Victrix.
They have the option to snip off their legs and use the trousered ones. I think they look quite cool and the process is  easy enough to do.

Ptolemaic Phalangites.  Some Aventine some Warlord Games

Eastern Phalanx again

Banner man has an Aventine head. Just drilled out the plastic neck and inserted the metal head

Transfers from Nailodia on Ebay. Designed as finger nail art ! Better utilized for miniature shield I reckon !

Lion transfer by Nailodia , other Little Big Man studios.

                                                ResinWarfare 3D printed Carthaginians

I love their " special character and command models".

And that's it  for now.   Working on some Romans for next week ,  They should have an interesting story to tell .     Steve G    Points =   22 x 5.

From Millsy:

Sounds like we spent our long weekends in very similar ways mate, with brush in hand. There are certainly worse ways to spend a weekend that's for sure.

Another fine crop of ancients! The linothorax is brilliant. So many miniature versions are painted white or buff but there's evidence to suggest a wide range of colours were used to edge them or even paint large parts. Great to see that realised, it adds so much interest. Good to see I'm not the only one who has dipped their toe into nail art too.

110 more points for the tally Steve. Nice one.

Cheers,
Millsy

From: JP Yawn, more Early Germans (50 points)

Don't say I didn't warn you folks! I am hell bent determined to chew through these, though I still want to do some other periods! Pinning the shields remains a annoying process.

Another warband of angry Teutonic Terrors. These are dedicated to a very dear friend of 50 years whose paintbrush is currently convalescing! Get well soon!!

I hope my opponent doesn't see this angle too often!

So: 10 x 28mm = 50 points

As always, thanks for looking!

Now now JP, nothing to yawn at in your post mate, these are still brilliant to goggle at!  Most of us Challengers are hobby-butterflies and flutter from the one project to the other, mostly always before finishing what we started. You are one of those rare stalwarts that soldiers on (see what I did there?) and tries to finish his projects and I think we all admire that quality a lot! And it also really helps that you have painted these Germans up in the same consistently great level of painting as the rest of your work. So keep it up and let us see you finish this project!

From SteveG: Ancient Germanic Cavalry (70 points)

German Cavalry 28mm metal mostly by Warlord Games.   Love the riders.  Chock full of personality.  Sadly their horses are emaciated nags, so I’ve swapped a few out for the excellent plastic “light horses” by Wargames Atlantic.   Much better proportioned and lively looking steeds!

Warlord Rider, Wargames Atlantic horse

OG Warlord Games

Also shown below is a very much inferior plastic old Wargames Factory Germanic Cavalry. To be avoided unless you’re paid to take them  IMHO  😊.

Wargames Factory

Victrix- slightly modded

Warlord Rider, WA horse

7 x 28mm cavalry = ? 70 points

From Millsy:

I'm so glad you've joined us this year Steve and that I have the privilege of minioning your posts. I find myself looking for them each Friday when I start processing posts. There's just something about your style that really floats my hobby boat.

Maybe it's your choice of subject matter, or your brushwork, or your amazing basing. Ultimately I think it's a mix of all of them and a bunch of other stuff too.

Good call swapping out some of the horses. Such brave looking warriors deserve a mount of equal robustness.

70 more points added to your tally mate. Can't wait for next week!

Cheers,
Millsy

From ChristopherS: Successor Thureophoroi (90Pts.)

My first entry this season and pretty close to the cut off. These are some Pyrrhic/Successor Thureophoroi for my slowing growing collection. Adding to my Pyrrhic collection will be my primary focus this year which will include both the Pyrrhic and Republic roman forces as I go along. I'm curious how far I'll manage to complete this goal.

The miniatures themselves are Aventine miniatures which I find to be fantastic and will make up a large share of my collection along with some Wargames Foundry. I would say Aventine miniatures rank among some of my favorite miniatures on the market.

Painting the figures was a lot of fun with some parts going pretty quick(for me) and other parts slowing me down quite a bit depending on the requirements. The colors I used were my usual Foundry and Vallejo, but also a little P3 and Mig pigment mixes for some weathering.

Thureophoroi provided a light infantry role on the battlefield and were flexible enough to both skirmish with javelins and form up in a phalanx with long spears making them very useful troops indeed.

That's 18 x 28mm miniatures for a total of 90pts.

Welcome to the Challenge Christopher and with such a whopper of an entry! Your paintstyle is awesome as well, I do love the level of saturation and crispness. A colourful bunch to start off the Challenge indeed, good to have you with us.

From: KentG 28mm ancients Goth force, cavalry and foot by Footsore Miniatures (530pts)

So for my second entry I chose to do a Goth force by footsore miniatures
I really love footsore miniatures the details are so nice and sharp.
I did get a bit carried away and on Boxing Day painted from about 9.30 am through to about 1.30am the next morning

I have to admit I am envious of most of you who write so many great
Things about your minis and why you are doing them, I’m not really that great at that part
So I hope the pictures show my passion for painting.
These figures are going to a friend who I did a swap painting for his minis.
I then sold his minis to help raise funds to build tiny homes in Ukraine.

Also thought I’d say for photos do don’t use any programs to enhance
The photos I just use an A1 white piece of light card bent at a 90 degree bend
With the LED light I use for painting, the camera is an older digital cannon

Below a couple of quick shots of the figures together

Ok so we have
31 x 28mm cavalry @10pts = 310pts
44 x 28mm foot @ 5pts = 220
Total 530pts

From Millsy:
The one thing I know when I see a post from you Kent is that I'll be staggered by your output. I shouldn't be after all this time, especially talking and painting together every week, yet still it happens.

This is an astonishing amount of stuff, as much because of the consistency of high quality as anything. The amount of colour variation and all the shields just adds to the wow factor.

Well done indeed mate. 530 points catapults you to the top of the chart, ending my overnight reign of terror in one post. Love it!

Cheers,
Millsy
