Side Duels Update March 4th, 2025

Another update on where everyone stands in the non-Skull related duels.  There is not a lot of change since my last update, but I suspect that some Duellists are guilty of Sandbagging...

First up an updated pie chart of activity.

GeoffT is maintaining his lead, but Curt and MikeW are hanging tight.  I increased MikeW's scores since I missed the that fact that he had multi-squirrel entries.   Sadly still no meese....

SD5 WW2 Duel

I am prepared to call this one a bust.  Six  Eight weeks in and we have a solitary Dutch Armoured Car as the combined effort from three gamers.  Actually on second thought it's much worse than that, as MattW has multiple WW2 posts unrecorded on the Duels Form.  I guess why send Tigers when a Armoured Car is all that's needed...

Very little change here and Kerry is maintaining a lead.  The Snowlord needs to remember that the duel is based on total points not numbers of figures.  I have corrected his score to reflect the 15 points in armoured sisters not the 3 women.  I might not be so generously inclined next time....

Side Duel Update January 5th

PeterD Duels Wallah here.  There's been some activity with the side duels, see the nifty pie chart below and the separate page with all the gory details.

A couple of quick admin notes on these Duels.

• If you want your posts recorded for a Duel, then you need to fill in the form.  And yes RayR, I am talking to you!
• It helps your Duels Wallah if you record your scores as number without a plus sign (+) in front.  If you type "95" Google Sheets and your aged Side Duel Wallah record this as the number 95.  if you type in "+95"  Google Sheets records this as text and you run the risk of Human error in translating this to values.
• There's Duels for the taking fir anyone who gets their act in order and makes a post.

Duel Update

Just a quick note to let folks know that I've resurrected the Paint Duels page for this years actions.  You can see the page by clicking the button at the top of the page, or at the following link Side Duels XV.

I tried to update the duels entrants and rules as best as I could, and made stuff up as I went along.  Feel free to send me late entrants, corrections or suggestions.

I am also working on getting the Duels form revised for XV and then up and running.  So far I've just killed last years' form, so I hope that Millsy or someone can save my backside before Miles finds out...

PeterD Duels Wallah here. I am trying to get a final list of the Side Duels together before we go live next weekend. Weeding my way through the comments trail on my last post, I found the following Duels and Duellists. If you want to get in on any of these Duels and you're not on my list of entrants please let me know ASAP. Also if I've misstated the intended scoring procedures, please let me know the correct criteria.


SD1 (Moose and ) Squirrel Duel

Gain one point for working on a project. To count as a squirrel you must have at least 25 points in a project or faction. I will arbitrate as I see fit where a proposed squirrel appears too close to a previously enumerated squirrel. I will also add a maximum of one bonus squirrel point for any participant painting at least one Moose (no additional points for multi-Meese entrants). Current participants are as follows.

SD7 Can Opener




Pure points count, including anything armoured enough to need a tool to crack it open. Armoured dudes and horses, AFVs and armoured ships all count. For clarity the armour needs to be metallic, so no linthothraxes here. Heavy cavalry on unarmoured steeds count only the riders.

SD8 Retreat from Moscow

This is so far a LeeH vs RayR Mano-a-mano duel. I am assuming that it's based on pure points and should be linked to a joint project. Lee and Ray are welcome to visit Regina in February to get the immersive retreat experience.

Side Duels for AHPC XV

HI folks, PeterD here in my new role as Duels Wallah for AHPC XV.  Every year we see a number of side duels running as part of the Challenge.  Against my better judgement I've agreed to oversee this year's side duels.

So here's an overview of how it works.  You can challenge an individual entrant for a one on one duel.  Slap him or her across the face, tell them they're ugly and their mother dresses them funny or tell them what you REALLY think about them.  Or you can take on all comers in a Wrestlemania style free-for-all.

In either case this is typically done view the comment section on this post and/or by emailing me.

Prior to start date of the challenge I will need the following for each and every duel

1. A list of everyone who is participating using their Challenge ID.
2. A defined subject for the duel, and what any post needs to include to be included.  This might be Old school Fantasy, Napoleon's, 6mm or smaller figures, 40k silliness, ships, or squirrels (i.e. the number of different projects the painter has started).
3. An evaluation criteria.  Is it most points, figures or hulls?  Is it first to meet a certain goal (first to 1000 points or first Kill team faction etc)?  Is is a qualitative criteria (best looking unit say) to be voted on by other parties.

I am assuming that Barks will be adjudicating the annual skull counting event again this year, but otherwise anything is fair game for a duel.

Once we got the Challenge up and running then let me know every time you've got a post that qualifies and I'll do my best to keep track of the scores.  To avoid overly cheesy and/or questionable entries, I will however reserve the right to deny entrants that I think do not meet the definition and spirit of the Duel.  

There will be subsequent posts about the admin details of the duels (i.e. how to let me know you've got an entry etc, where to see the scores etc), once I figure out what these are.
