From Ray: Almansa 1707 - Siluten's Dutch Horse brigade. 15.5 pts

My last post for AHPC 13, I promise.....
And its a Brigade I painted up at the start of the Challenge back in December, I put it in a box and promptly forgot about it! I was checking my list, thinking "I'm sure I painted them, I must be going round the bend?" But no, a quick search and there they were.

This is Siluten's Dutch Brigade

Which consists of 2 squadrons of Drimborn's Horse, 2 squadrons of Mattha's Dragoons and 2 squadrons of Schippenbach's Dragoons

6 bases @2.5= 15pts
add 1/2 point for the brigadier.

15.5 points

And that's me over and out!

Wow Ray, I'm very much looking forward to your wrap-up picture on this project. It's going to be epic to see what you've managed to achieve over the Challenge. My hat's off to you and your dedication in sticking with this project. Well done, mate!

From RayR - Almansa 1707 - Gutierrez's and Ronquillo's Spanish Brigades 41pts

More from my 2mm Almansa project

I really like these Irregular 2mm figures, some will like them and some not, but what you can achieve
painting these little chaps is amazing!

The is Gutierrez's Spanish Horse brigade.

There are only 2 regiments in this brigade, both have 3 squadrons.
Ordenes - Nuevo and Ordenes - Viejo, which translates to Orders Old and Orders New, which are rather strange names? I guess its something to do religious orders?

Gutierrez's Brigade fought ion the right wing in the second line under Lt General D'Asfeld and will earn me 15.5 pts to add to my total.

Next up we have Ronquillo's Brigade

Ronquillo's also fought on the right flank, but in the 1st line, under Lt General Duque de Popili.

The regiment in this brigade were Real Asturias 4 Squadrons, Amezaga's 3 squadrons and Carillo's 3 squadrons.

Amezaga

Carillo

Real Asturias

Ronquillo's brigade will earn me 25.5 pts
add that to Gutierrez's 15.5 and we get 41 pts

Great work Ray! :)

From RayR - Almansa 1707 - Spanish - Mello's Brigade 30.5 pts

Ahora es el momento para un poco de caballería española.

Here we have Mello's Brigade, who fought in the Right wing 2nd line under Don Juan de Alayda

This is one of the biggest brigades in the battle.

There are 6 squadrons of regt Casa de Viera.
He must have not been short, of a few gold escudo's!

As usual with info on the Portuguese army of 1707, its very difficult to find, but what I did find out is that the 3 squadrons of the Lisboa regt wore light blue coats.

The same as the Olivenca's 3 squadrons.

as for the points...
12 bases of Cavalry@2.5 points = 30 points
1 brigadier = 1/2 point

So 30.5 points!

Good lord, when does it stop! Seriously, excellent work, Ray. The flags and spots of vibrant colour are very well done. And again, great basing and labels!

From RayR - Almansa 1707 - Amaca and Camara's Brigades 39 points

 Yep, its more 2mm figures

Its time for more Portuguese troops

This is the Portuguese Cavalry Brigade led by General Amaca

On the left we have 2 Squadrons of Villavicosa regt and on the right a lonely 1 squadron of regt Algarbo.

3 squadrons of Almansa

and 3 of the Moura regt.

Amaca's Brigade fought in the 1st line on the right flank under Das Minas.

I might as well sneak this small infantry brigade in as well on this post.
Camara's Brigade.

Here we have 3 Portuguese infantry regts, Novo de Almeida, Viana and Castro.
Camara's Brigade fought the Centre 1st line under General Erle.

Onto the points

9 bases @ 2.5 = 22.5
3 bases @5 =15
2 Brigadiers@ 1/2 point = 1
So altogther 38.5 points

Cracking work on these figures as always, Ray. As usual, I will round up half a point for the flags. Will we see any more of these tiny troops before the final bell rings?

From RayR - Almansa 1707 - The Commanders 20pts

An army cannot work without its commander, so here are both sides for the Battle of Almansa in 1707.

The English, Portuguese and Dutch

The English/Portuguese/ Dutch army was led by a Frenchman
Henri de Massue, 2nd Marquis de Ruvigny, Earl of Galway, accompanied by the Wing Commanders, General Thomas Erle, General  John Shrimpton, Lieutenant General Charles O'Hara, 1st Baron Tyrawley, Dutch General Friesham, Portuguese Cont de Alayda, Marques de Minas, General Villaverde and Don Juan de Alayda.

The Franco/Spanish army were led by an Englishman!

James FitzJames, 1st Duke of Berwick, 1st Duke of Liria and Jérica, 1st Duke of Fitz-James
The Duke of Berwick was the illegitimate son of King James II by Arabella Churchill, sister of the Duke of Malborough.

Berwick was ably assisted by Lt Gen Abre, Lt Gen Hessy, Marques d'Avaray, Lt Gen Labadie,
Lt Gen San Gilles, Lt Gen D'Asfled, Duque de Popoli and Maj Gen Vincentelo.

So to the points
There are 2 bases 2.5mmx2.5mm@2 points each = 4
and 16 bases 2mmx2mm@ 1 point each = 16

So a grand total of 20 points!

I had a longer write-up for this, but I suspect 'someone' went in and inadvertently deleted it and put it back in draft mode. *grrr*

Anyway, great work Ray. I admire your very neat and tidy labelling and basework. Well done!

From RayR - Almansa French, Horse Brigade's Pelleport and Sandricourt - 34 Points

I'm battling on through trying to get as much 2mm figures as I possible can.
In this post we have two brigades of French Horse. First up we have Pelleport's Brigade

Which consisted of the following regts, 2 Squadrons of  Parabere, 2 squadrons of Germinon and 2 squadrons of Pelleport's.

They fought on the Left of the battle in the second rank under Lt Gen Abre.

I'm afraid the flags are generic 18th century flags, as finding any info on the flags proved extremely difficult. But If I hadn't have said anything you'd have never known, would you?

The second French Horse brigade is that of Sandricourts.

Sandricourt's brigade also fought on the left wing of the battle, but they fought in the 1st line under the
Marquès d'Avaray.

The regiments in this brigade were, 3 squadrons of Berry, 2 squadrons of  Vignau and 2 squadrons of Villers.

The Berry regt is the only French Horse regt with the correct flags, even though they're a later 7YW flag, but's its 2mm, and I can hardly see it.......

So to the points
Pelleport's 2.5 point per base = 15
1/2 point for the brigader total to 15.5 point
Sandricourt's 2.5 points per base = 17.5 points
1/2 point for the brigader total to 18 point

At this scale, I don't think you need to overly worry about the flags being 100% accurate. The next thing you know you'll be worrying about facing colours on the uniform collars and the correct type of lacing on the cuffs. I'll still round your score up for the flags even if they may be 'generic'.
Fine work on these cavalry brigades.

From RayR - Almansa 1707 - Portuguese, Ilha's Brigade (31 points)

Carrying on with my Almansa project.........

Here we have  Ilha's Portuguese Brigade

The brigade fought under General Erle in the Centre 1st line

Once again I chose to have half in new grey uniforms and half still in their old blue uniforms.
The regiments are as follows.
Ant. Carneiro, Conte d'Aveiras, Conte d'Ilha's, Josep Delgado Pereira, Sebastian de Castro & Don Louis de Camara (otherwise known as Zamora).

Castro's

Ant. Carneiro

Conte d'Aveiras

So we have 6 bases of foot@5pts each=30pts
1 Brigadier@1/2point
Added together that comes to 30.5 points.

From TeemuL: Nice to see your collection grow Ray. I'm still not sure if these are miniatures, but on the table from the distance they do look like an army, more than 28mm skirmish forces. Mandatory half point awarded, too. One could say you have a cunning plan here... Very neat painting and I like the bases.
