From SteveB: Dropzone Commander Resistance Infantry (49 Points)

Not much to display this week. Bit of a painting slump.

I painted up 2 units of infantry for my resistance force. 1 unit of 6 stands of resistance fighters, and 1 unit of 4 resistance veterans.

If my math is right total of 49 pts.

Nice work Steve. I like your neutral basing with these fellows as it really helps to make these smaller figures stand out. Question: What is the difference between Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander? Are they variations on the same system?

I understand the painting slump Steve, especially coming out of the grey of February, but take heart, you've done excellent work this season and there's only a week to go. One last push!

From ByronM, SteveB, and MikeA - Curtgeld French Napoleonic Command Stand (33 points each)

Well, it was touch and go there fore a while, getting 3 gamers to get things done at one time is like herding cats, but with nary a moment to spare may I present to you three Winnipeg games Curtgeld submission.

When Curt stated he wanted a collaboration piece between gamers, I thought "Wonderful, a way to torture friends by making them paint French Napoleonics too!!"  As I have stated in the past, I LOVE French Napoleonics, well the look and playing them at least, I have a love/hate affair with painting them, I love when they are done but I hate painting them.  So, knowing Curt's love of them, and a chance to torture friends, I figured why not!

Mike and Steve each did 2 figures, all of them Victrix plastics that I had around the house.  Steve's are the two in white pants, and Mikes are in khaki pants. This was both of their first attempts at doing Napoleonic era figures and uniforms and both have now expressed their concern that I am quite mad for having painted so many of these damn things.

To spread the torture around, I painted yet another damn horse this year, this time for Curt. This is a Perry metal figure I had kicking around.

Once all the figures were done, I collected them and got them ready to base.  I 3d printed out a little dice tray that holds three 7mm dice so that Curt can use it for moral, leadership, or whatever else he wants (depending on the rule system used).

I hope you like it Curt, I will hand it off to you next time we meet up.

I believe it will score us 30 points each (10 points for 2 inf or 1 cav and then 20 points for the curtgeld bonus), but more importantly it will score some cash for the Regina Humane Society.

Wow. What can I say? This is just tremendous guys - I absolutely love it.

Byron, my hat's off to you for torturing convincing Steve and Mike to take on this project. I'm particularly impressed with them as this is their first foray into painting Napoleonic figures - no mean feat, as the period can be a bit intimidating to the uninitiated. Nonetheless, bravo to you all, these fantassins are brilliant and look ready to conquer Europe (well, except for the fellow in the front who's seems to be feeling a little poorly).

So, 30 points for the each of you, with a few more added for you working so well together.  Again, thank you very much Byron, Steve and Mike!

From Steve B - Arena Rex, BMG (15 points)

After the last few minis.  I slowed down a bit slow I could work on this guy. The Arena Rex game puts out some amazing minis. So I thought I should put some extra effort in to them. He is big more like 40k terminator size.

I did manage to get a few more Joker gang members done, more as a change of pace from the gladiator.

So 3 more minis towards my goal.

Only 3 figures this week, but so colourful and so powerful. I would not mess with any of these guys if I were to meet them on the street. The metal on the gladiator is very well rendered and the make-up on the face of the villains really adds to the spookiness. Excellent job!

From SteveB: Dystopian Wars (45 Points)

So continuing the Dystopian wars theme. I managed some more Covenant of Antarctica stuff done.

This time I'm am working on some air power. These models are from the aerial battle group, I am still working on the fighters and tiny flyers.

The bad boy is the Epicurus class sky fortress. I magnetized the top turret for ease of transport.

And what good is a sky fortress without some support. So three Icarus medium flyers provide that.

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I am quickly running out of steam. The last Month and a bit I have painted more than I have in the last 2 years. Now to keep plugging away toward the finish line.

With just under 100pts to my goal, I think I might slow down a bit and work on some individual figs for a bit.

Oh man, Steve, the fact that you're running out of steam means that the Challenge is doing its magic. I'm delighted that you've painted more in the past 7 weeks than you have in the past two years. Mission accomplished. :)

These Dystopian Wars flyers are very cool, like antarctic kinda cool. The green energy blooms are a great touch, as is the blue 'glow' for the portholes and viewports.

I look forward to seeing you pip over the line with some individual figures. Until next week!

Steve B: Blood Bowl, Dystopian Wars (121 points)

So I managed to finish off the last of my skaven blood bowl team, inc a rat ogre, extra thrower, 2 special chars, and one with long legs.

I had a hard time deciding what to do next. I've had a Covenant of Antarctica fleet for Dystopian wars for a few years now , but hadn't finalized a color scheme.
The Covenant specializes in energy weapons, so I thought to do a weapons glow. with the airbrush this is suprisingly easy to do. They won't be award winners , but I am happy with the result.

Being off the beginning of the week , I managed to crank out most of the fleet. These are mostly done with airbrush, with very little brush work.

Included are a dreadnaught, assault carrier, 2 battleships, battle cruiser, 6 cruisers, and 6 frigates.

I included a skaven blood bowl member for scale, as I'm not sure how to sore these. ( but that's what the judges are for,...lol)

Cracking work Steve! You've done a great job with the airbrush on those ships. I'm going to score the ogre as a 40mm figure so that gives you 27 points for the Blood Bowl selection.

Having looked back through previous Dystopian Wars entries to get an idea of how to score them, I'm going to award 94 points for that fleet which brings you up to 121 points for this submission.

From Steve: Necromunda, BMG, Blood bowl.

First up is the last 5 Goliath gangers to finish off my Necro gang. I had a blast with theses guys, now I just have to start playing some games.

Next up is Commisuoner Gordon and some Swat guys from Knight models Batman the miniature game. Again lost of fun with these guys. Not quite happy with the swat on the shield. But it will do for now. I'm contemplating making a stencil for fixing it up later.

Next up is half of my skaven blood bowl team.with the  rerelease of blood bowl, I though I should get these guys done. I had stripped them a few years back, but had no incentive to paint them up.

Managed to sneak in 5 more blood bowl guys before submission.

So 23 x 28mm models should increase my score by 115 pts, bringing me to my half way goal.

Enjoy.

Lovely work Steve. Those Goliath gangers look pretty intimidating. Particularly nice job on the the skin tones and basework, it's very sharp. The one figure that really draws my eye though is your Commissioner Gordon. I love his trenchcoat and lenses on his glasses, he really looks the part of a tough-as-nails cop. Well done.

From SteveB: Goliath Necromunda (70 Points)

Due to a back problem I haven't been able to paint much, but have managed to get most of my Goliath Necromunda gang done. Only 5 more to do after this batch.

These were painted to a tabletop standard, I I think they turned out well.

I had a lot of fun with these guys, tried out some different skin tones.

So 14 finished 28 mm models I believe is 70 pts.

Great work Steve! These brutes will make a wonderful Goliath gang. I quite like that you gave them different skintones, reflecting a wide cross-section of the Hive's population. One's eye is always drawn to the guys with the Heavy Bolter and Heavy Stubber - those boys are real brutes (as they'd have to be to tote those hunks of ordinance).

I'm also really admiring your basework. The decaying masonry, detritus and rubble are a great touch.

70 points for you, sir! Well done.

From SteveB: Heretic 40K Chimeras and Hellhound (45 Points)

So week two has been slower than expected, between holidays, snow storm and extra shifts at work I've had less time to paint, plus too sore to hold a brush steady. Despite all of that, I did manage to finish the two imperial guard chimeras and hellhound. Hopefully more progress next week.

Great work on these Steve! I really like the orange stripe down the center and the crew-improvised Chaos markings. I gives them that wonderfully generic Planetary-Defense-Force-gone-bad look to them.

45 Points for your tally. Good job and I look forward to your next entry.

From SteveB: First Week (45 Points)

I finally joined the challenge this year. I've been wanting to join for the last few but never got around to it.

My goal is to get some of the model that have been collecting dust on my shelf done. This also include some half finished projects( I know they don't count, but gives me an incentive to get done).

First day I managed to get 3 tripods from 'All quiet on the Martian Front' done. Not sure how to score these I think they are 20 mm so about 12pts each (36pts total).

These were very fun to paint. Got to try out some candied red to add some color. Tried some OSL red ( not happy with). Also got to use some Vallejo air metals, ( very nice, smooth coverage).

The last couple of days I managed to get lot done on some guard vehicles, just putting the finishing touches on them, should have them done by Monday or tuesday as well some progress on my Necromunda gang.

For the rest of the challenge I have my shaven blood bowl team I would like to do, as well a lot of batman miniature game figs to do.

Best of luck to everyone.

Great work Steve and welcome aboard!

Those Tripods look terrific. I particularly like the airbrushed steel, and the red crest you put on them is quite sharp. Design-wise, I've always thought their Tripods look like ballet dancers walking 'en pointe' and their heads look like they should be the other way around - but that's just me.

I quite like how those how those Chimeras are coming along but your 'shaven blood bowl' sounds painful. :p

45 points for you!
