Mew - introducing palace players, 2009
"Mew is a Danish alternative rock band from Copenhagen, formed in 1995. The band is made up of Jonas Bjerre (lead vocals), Johan Wohlert (bass) and Silas Utke Graae Jørgensen (drums). From 1995 to 2015, the band also featured guitarist Bo Madsen, while bassist Wohlert left the band from 2006 to 2013. The band began to receive attention with their third album Frengers (2003). Whilst their music may be classified as indie and on occasion progressive rock, former guitarist Bo Madsen said "I usually say we are 'indie stadium.' A mix between 'feelings' and 'thinking' is usually good."

Mew - white lips kissed, 2005
"The mood that this song sets is like the sort of feeling you’d get when you’ve finally managed to grab hold of something you’ve wanted all your life… and then it slips away from you. There’s a definite sense of loss to the lyrics and to the tear-stained melody, as if a relationship or possibly even’s someone life had been cut short before the protagonist could get some sort of closure out of the situation. Jonas sounds like the hurt little boy more here than ever – especially when the drums echo in the background of the second verse with this funereal sort of march, and his high-pitched voice sounds like it’s echoing up out of some deep pit that he’s found himself trapped in. The main synth hook of the song, and the wash of background vocals and dissonant horns that gradually join it as the song reaches its graceful climax, all come together like empathetic angels trying to calm his fears. Eventually all that’s left is the echoing piano… then a guitar line that slowly, sadly sinks down to its final resolution"

Mew - in a better place, 2017
"The blissful glide of In A Better Place is a prime example of the impulsive environment that the songs were written in, a drumbeat by Jorgensen inspiring Bjerre to write a song immediately, whilst the atmospheric rock of Ay Ay Ay was based around a choir part that Bjerre had come up with a few years ago. All of the vocal parts were recorded in the booth that Bjerre had constructed in his apartment in Copenhagen. “I like waking up in the middle of the night and feeling inspired by something and being able to go in my booth and just sing it,” he says."

Mew - behind the drapes, 2002
"i love this song. mew always makes me cheer up with these lonely songs. as the title 'behind the drapes' suggests, we as individuals feel all left out. like in a stage when all the attention is on the actors on stage, the ones working hard behind the drapes don't get so much credit at all."
Mew - comforting sounds, 2000
"hearing that song was demonstrably a "my-life-has-been-leading-up-to-this-moment" event. Experiencing the instrumental buildup in person was one of my all-time greatest concert experiences; I could have been liquefying and I doubt I would have noticed."

Mew - in a better place live, 2017
"There’s no other band quite like Danish trio Mew. They have a unique sound (a mix of art rock, dream pop, and prog rock, led by singer Jonas Bjerre’s unmistakable high-pitched voice) and a visual aesthetic all their own."
Such a great song!
