4,000,000+ Hits - But what does it mean?

Shrug ...

Absolutely nothing .. as my guess is that it is mostly Bots. Gawd help the future of AI if it is mining my posts for accurate knowledge. I have a disclaimer at the bottom of my page. I think that mining wargaming blogs for knowledge is the last thing the Tech Giants should be doing! You could be solving real problems like world hunger for teh cost of the compute you meaninglessly burn - no seriously you could!

Meanwhile: To all the humans still out there "Hi, I hope you are well!"

Roll of Honour for "dead" blogs: "Tidying up Blogs I Like to Read" [1]

I was checking the bottom of my "Blogs I Like to Read" list and there seems to be deadwood.
Blogs that are no longer with us (sniff).
Lest they not be forgotten, they served to amuse me, I shall miss their passing.
I honour their digital memory!

Strange Blogger Stat Question - View Count Seems Frozen at (1) : Blog Feed Problem

----------------- FIRST DRAFT OF PROBLEM ---------- FIRST DRAFT OF PROBLEM ------------------

Very, very strange, all my posts since (after) January 1st 2023 (as in 2nd January onwards) seem to be getting only one read (best hang up my blogging boots, but wait, I was doing it for my self really, so blog on). I therefore must have one very devoted reader that is not me, or something is amiss with blogger stat counting? Curious!

If you are reading this and are not the author then the stat counting will have a problem if it says only one read. Please leave a comment to say you were here.

Thank you in advance for your posted comment.

Then after an Internet search ...

------- STOP PRESS ---------- STOP PRESS --------- STOP PRESS ----------- STOP PRESS ---------

Turns out to be a different problem [not the inability to see this blog as I first thought but] with respect to the "blogger feed" mechanism, updates are not been delivered to other Blogs that advertise my new posts. All getting a bit technical I know.

This helpful post sorted me out by clearing my cache (the "clever" behind the scenes mechanism which controls spotting content "which is new without having to do too much work finding it):

With computers there is always something "Heath Robinson" going on in the background ;)

What the ... Heck ... is going on here?

Looking at the Blog stats I see this strange spike (see below, 1415 hits from a culinary we-site):

What is behind this freaky statistic? I think there is some sort of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) Google Fake News fudge to appear to be legitimate so something can be promoted.

Any thoughts anyone?

What no more Shelfari after March ... What is GoodRead?

To quote Han Solo from Star Wars "Chewy I have a BAD feeling about this!" ..

Oh no did I hear the word MIGRATION, no software orientated person likes that word as it just spells TROUBLE. Expect to see a dozen posts or more complaining about loss of data and "feature drift"

That is the GLASS HALF EMPTY interpretation of Googles announcement but the first "Book Export" to GoodRead looked pretty, ... well, incomplete ... missing lots!

 :(

STOP PRESS ... UPDATE: Message received after I sent a query to the Amazon HELP or FAQ section ...

Hello,

I'm sorry about the inconvenience caused.
Please be informed that we are experiencing a technical issues. We apologize for the inconvenience this causes.
Errors like this are usually corrected shortly after they're reported. I request you to please try again after a 1-2 business days.

Did I solve your problem?

ONLY TIME WILL TELL ... I can now add a new book to my old Shelfari but I fear this is merely the start of a long SAGA!

Note to Self: Blogger Posting Settings

I recently experimented with "Blog Comments" settings.

I made two changes:
  • The first was allowing "anon" users to post
  • The second was to drop word verification off the postings
The former was a disaster as "Spam Gate" ensued, thankfully they came to my email account first for approval still so I could spot them and mark them as 'spam'. The second does not seem to have caused any issues yet. Comments from fellow bloggers experienced appreciated as it is nice to try and improve the user experience.

It just seems so much of a pity that there is so much mindless spam on the Internet :(

Darn me, Blogger seem to have fixed this now ...

For a long, long time I could 'join and follow' new blogs (in theory) but not in practice as I could not pull them into my "Blogs I Like to Read" section.

But behold this "bug" seems now to be fixed. Well done to the programming gnomes at Blogger. It is much appreciated

Strange II

Well for some reason best known to my computer Mozilla Firefox would not run, so I switched over to the IE backup and guess what.

When I sign into my Blog I see myself as full access (top right hand corner)

It may be coincidence (and my account details change had been replicated through their servers?) or the fact that something was amiss with my Firefox

Don't know but it is good to be back

Strange

I can now post to my own blog :)

I changed mt setting to open up comments in a new window
It now picks up my Id
With new profile picture
(Yes I have recently changed my password)

I hace successfully posted to Tim's MegaBlitz and More
Bit still failed to post to Plastic Warriors and 20th Century Wargames

Must be something about not matching my Google Id/Password togther
Any thoughts from any techies or knowledgeable bloggers out there?

Now what is going on?

I cannot post comments to my own (and other people's blogs)

Anybody else having problems posting pictures?

I see to have a new rather than an old trusted feature for helping me publish pictures to my blog?

Google Cloud Picker rather than a simple upload facility (that worked)
I'm confused

:(

Problem Update

Issue resolved by clearing my cache and cookies from my machine
Don't know why that worked but I got the advice from another on a forum who was experiencing the same problem

I would have posted this as a comment but I am unable to post comments
Are the two issues related I wonder?
