There are a few bootlegs out that feature this show. There are from what I have seen 2 Pre-FM versions of this show. A Pre-FM vinyl version and this version from a Pre-FM Reel. From what I understand the uploader of this Pre-FM Reel version is not even a Rush fan. The concert recording was featured as filler on a DAT from a trade. Thankfully the uploader new what he had would make Rush fans very happy so he uploaded it to the net. This seems to be a raw transfer of the recording, no crossfades were done so a couple transitions are a little rough but all the music is a fantastic listen! And I get a live Pre-FM quality recording of my favorite Rush tune "Natural Science"!

This Master Tape by Tattie is not rare but there are other titles from this show that get posted more. However at The Rush Archives it is unanimous that this is the copy to have. I've compared the seven different versions and I agree this is the best sounding. The others are from tapes with some Generation age to them. Some have drastic cuts in them to re-arrange the running order for some reason. Others have speed problems. None of that is here it's only problem is it is to short.

It could be said they have all sources known to collectors at therushforum.com. This is a great recording from the Permanent Waves Tour. I love the album and was pleased to find this thir13en Remastered Pre-FM source for my collection. It's also great to have such a nice sounding recording of my favorite song from Permanent Waves too, "Natural Science". "Natural Science" still has that epic feel to it without being of epic length. There are 10 different sources for this show on the Rush vine and to my ears this one sounds the best. Hope you enjoy it!!!

Well here is another of the Mike Millard Masters & 1st Generation Cassettes being released by JEMS. This time everybody's favorite working men Rush. This was during the transitional period where shorter songs and keyboards started taking over the Rush machine. The older songs would start to be relegated to a couple medleys for a time.
The addition of Geddy Lee's keyboards and peddles just added to the spectacle of Rush. A band that by this time in their live career they didn't make perceptible mistakes during a performance. You have to watch the big screen to catch the hints of a mistake. Neil Peart would scratch his head really quick if he thought he made a clunker. Alex Lifeson kept his head down if he made a mistake but Geddy Lee would laugh. If Geddy Lee made what he thought was a goof he would throw his head back and smile. All the while the bad note or drum hit wasn't noticed by the mass of fans in front of them. At least this was my take away from Rush live. I'll tell you, and I don't want to come off preachy, since I stopped partying hard at shows I enjoy them more. I notice more and remember more. I went to see Emerson, Lake & Palmer opening for Jethro Tull at Pine Knob with my friends. My buddy Joe raved about Jethro Tulls set. I had to remind him that he passed out after E.L.P.'s 3rd song. We left him sleeping on the hill till it was time to leave. He said "Really?" LOL!!! Enjoy the music!!

Another Before The Fame post. Rush was out promoting their sophomore album Fly By Night. The album was not a huge seller and signaled changes to the bands already growing fan base. First and foremost came Neil Peart who's drumming and lyrics brought the song writing to another level. "By-Tor and the Snow Dog" was a huge step in the direction of Progressive Rock. A longer form song arranged of many shorter parts hinted at what was to come. The playing was tighter, the album sonically better, the label was not impressed. Thankfully the label stuck with Rush and Rush made Music History. It all started in a van that broke down on the band on the way to the show. They didn't make it till the following night. I used Goldwave to convert the MPEG4 to a Wave 16bit/44,1khz. I then used Goldwave to edit the tracks. No noise reduction, EQ, or remastering was done to the recording. The video had lossy audio so it was encoded to MP3 320kbps using Trader's Little Helper. I edited the show as it was broadcast, a continuous 5 hour broadcast. If you want to burn CDs you will have to find the right spots to edit your CD1, CD2 etc.
Taylor Hawkins, drummer for The Foo Fighters, died March 25, 2022. Early toxicology reports suggest that a drug overdose may be the cause, but no official ruling has been made as of this date. The band was scheduled to play the Estéreo Picnic Festival in Bogotá, Colombia but had to cancel. The stage was turned into a candle light vigil.
This recording is from show 1 of 2 shows planned to honor Taylor. The 2nd was on September 27 in Los Angeles, California. It's a great show with a lot of different performers, some legendary, some not quite there but on their way. Check out Josh Homme of Queens Of The Stone Age/Kyuss/Them Crooked Vultures fame singing David Bowie's "Let's Dance" and Sir Elton John's "Good-bye Yellow Brick Road" and nail it! Chevy Metal & Ke$ha deliver a great version of T. Rex's "Children Of The Revolution". Brian Johnson & Lars Ulrich jam out some AC/DC classics. Geddy Lee & Alex Lifeson using 2 different drummers to pull off some Rush tracks. Sir Paul McCartney steps up with Chrisse Hynde and deliver some Beatles while Brian May and Roger Taylor give us a bit of Queen.
I hope everyone enjoys this, it took a lot of work to get it together. Not sure if there are any other audio rips of this show out yet. T.U.B.E. offers the MPEG4 that I made the audio rip from, it's actually where I downloaded it. It's kind of a big file set, so It has been separated into 2 parts which can be opened separately.

Okay this is kind of cheating but with this show you get entries into 2 of our running themes right now. I selected this Rush recording to be the next in our Salute To Progressive Rock Bands. I then realized that it is also an entry in our Roots Of Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Series. Quite frankly Rush is the biggest influence on the Progressive Metal genre. You could almost say that without Rush there wouldn't be a Dream Theater, Fates Warning etc. As a matter of fact Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater counts Neil Peart as one of if not the greatest influence on his playing. This choice also gives me another chance to say genre purists don't quite accept Rush or any other Progressive Metal band as true Prog since it's Heavy Metal..I also get another chance to say I don't care for purist's rules for music.
This recording is a compilation of the 1978-1979 Tour Of The Hemispheres. Each track was chosen to give the best performance and sound quality representation. I personally love it. This was the 1st tour I seen of Rush's so it's great to get a "Live Album" from that tour.
