The big mystery on this one is the source and date of the Go material.  Our pal Bill Minkin introductes it as Go "recorded in England in 1976." I've got a newspaper clipping from the Acton Gazette that says "Japanese percussionist Stomu Yamash'ta has formed an exciting new group featuring Stevie Winwood, which is about to go on the road.  Only one British date has been arranged, and will take place at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday."  That gives us a date of May 29, 1976.

Well, we don't trust, we verify. Or at least try to verify.  Over at Concert Vault they have a Go show identified as "Palais des Sports, Paris, France June 12, 1976."  The Concert Vault version of "Man of Leo" has the same vocal of "come on, get your hands together" at the start as the KBFH "London" version.

The two versions are from the same show. My understanding is the Paris show was the source of the official release Go...Live From Paris, and that the Vault tracks don't match the official release.

Klaus-schulze.com lists only these two shows (London and Paris).  No other concerts are listed.

I'm going with the London date.  My conclusion is that streaming version has wrong date and venue.

Now...Is that Wilson Pickett on the second Budweiser commercial?

The first appearance was three weeks after the concert with the August 22, 1982 broadcast date, edited down to seven tracks (the remainder was by Marshall Crenshaw).

Our Good Friend and Follower of The Site, GMan, has sent me a copy of his recording of the Steely Dan, Steve Winwood show in Vegas the year 2016. He said I could post it if I liked it. When he sent it he said it was not one of his better recordings. You hear that sometimes from tapers because there might be a flaw they don't like in the recording. They are their own worst critics which I'm glad to say GMan is no different. This is a really good recording. You can hear everything coming from the stage. There is some talking, not all the time so not too distracting. A couple loud clappers here and a loud whistler there. No real big deal at all...I think you will enjoy it! I added a copy of a ticket on sale on Ebay, and a couple other picks just in case there is someone who wants to make art work for themselves, here is a start.

This is (I guess) the full version from the English 45. As mentioned above, it is somewhat distorted (overmodulated) though certainly listenable. Mostly, the difference is Jim Capaldi vocalizing a bit during the instrumental sections.

Personnel not really listed but it sounds like Steve Winwood, Jim Gordon and Rick Grech sounding sorta like Blind Faith. Interesting take but just a jammy thing.

Track 7 and 8. Not sure who’s playing what beyond the obvious. The rhythm section certainly seems to be the Alabamy boys and I’d bet on Steve Winwood on guitar and maybe organ. Shoot Out meets a horn section.

The info that came with this boot was that it was a rebroadcast of the 1970 Paris Theatre performance premiering songs from John Barleycorn Must Die. I have not compared this show with a different copy I have of the Paris Theatre 1970 gig so I can't be sure. At any rate this is a great sounding performance and recording. Chris Wood passed away July 12, 1983 of pneumonia at the age of 39. Jim Capaldi passed away January 28, 2005 at the age of 60 from stomach cancer.

This great Pre-FM recording comes from Steve Winwood's tour to support Junction Seven his seventh solo album. The album didn't sell as well as previous solo efforts so after the touring was over Winwood took a break from releasing solo albums that didn't end till 2003 saw the release of About Time. This is a stunning performance that we are lucky enough to have preserved for our repeated listening pleasure. I'm not sure which radio program this recording comes from because the original uploader did not include that information.

This is a real nice sounding recording ripped form my bootleg DVD. The show was aired on HBO, while Steve was touring to promote Roll With It, the follow up to the highly successful Back In The High Life. Back In The High Life had 5 hit singles and reached #3 on the  Billboard Album Chart and sold over 5 million copies. Steve also won 3 Grammys for the album including Album Of The Year. Roll With It had 5 hit singles as well and hit #1 on The Billboard Hot 200, on it's way to hitting multi-platinum status with over 3 million copies sold. The first song is Steve alone before the audience even hits the Hall.

A very nice sounding Pre-FM vinyl rip from our good friend Draftervoi. The commercials have been left in but chaptered so that you can play the show without them. I must confess sometimes I listen to the commercials to give the illusion of listening to the radio. This is a fabulous set with Steve including songs from the many stages of his career from The Spencer Davis Goup to solo artist. Steve Winwood was riding a wave of success when Westwood One recorded the performances that make up this broadcast. Back In The High Life had brought him 3 Grammys, Best Engineered Album, Non Classical:  Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, for "Higher Love", and Record of the Year for "Higher Love". Spawned 5 singles that all charted while hitting #3 on The Billboard Hot 200. Roll with it hit #1 on the album charts and it's title track hit #1 on the single charts. So download this recording to catch Steve Winwood at the peak of his 1980's commercial peak.
