Swans are a Post-Punk band that came out of New York's No-Wave Scene. The band was formed by Michael Gira in 1982 and has been highly experimental music wise from the beginning. The music incorporates elements of Noise Rock, Post Rock, Industrial, Metal, Neo-Folk and more. Performances of the band were known to be very confrontational, with Gira stepping on fingers of fans if they were resting them on the stage, pulling peoples hair, and actually assaulting some fans who were headbanging (something Gira despised at the time). Shows were oft times stopped by Police due to the bands habit of playing at extremely painful volumes. This reputation caused the reduction in shows, and break up of the band in 1997. Since reforming in 2010 the performances have been about the music.

 The above line-up is a best guess seeing how there was a few drummers and bass players listed as in the band in 1986. Any corrections will be appreciated.

Really short set from Swans, what it lacks in length it more than makes up for in crushing atmosphere. This ultra slow crushing sound was very influential on the Extreme Doom Metal and Gothic Metal scenes, including Peter Steele of Type O Negative. Of course Michael Gira doesn't like to be associated with Heavy Metal.

The reunited Swans deliver a crushing set at the 2013 Primavera Sound Festival. If your a fan of Swans you know what to expect from this Post Punk/Rock/Metal Noise crew. If your never heard Swans picture Pink Floyd's "Saucerfull Of Secerets" (the track itself not the LP as a whole) meets Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music" played with the aggression of any modern Heavy Metal band, then you kind of have an idea.
