JustDave's Notes:
- Huge Thank You To Sam Elliot's Mustache for sending me his vinyl to encode!
- Thank you also to Draftervoi, Sam Elliot's Mustache & avnut for impute and assistance.
Run Out Grooves:
Side A : KB-437-A MCR JOE
Side B : KB-437-B MCR JOE
Side C : KB-437-C MCR JOE
Recording Notes:
- There is a locked groove test tone at the beginning of Side A for radio stations to set output levels before broadcast. It is not included in this encoding.
- Although the cue sheet states there are 2 promos at the end of Side C there are no promos included.
- Another odd thing about this record set is that between when the John Waite portion ends and the Axe portion of the show starts there is no locked groove in between. Usually when a new segment starts there is a locked groove between the ending and beginning segment.
Editing Notes:
- Records hand cleaned with Record Research Lab Super Record Wash before playback.
- LP cleaned with the HumminGuru Ultrasonic Vinyl Record Cleaning System prior to playback.
- A Zerostat Positive Ion gun was used on LP prior to playback.
- Raw transfer: EQ off, treble and bass levels set at +/- zero for most accurate sound of LP.
- Preservation being key the show is encoded complete with commercials, and voice overs.
- All editing done in 24bit/96khz
- Declicked manually and some noise reduction used depending on what best served situation.
Other Notes:
- John Waite, former lead singer of The Babys was on tour for his first solo album Ignition.
- The song "Change" was written by Holly Knight while in the band Spider. The song was on the bands second an last album. The album also was the first recording of "Better Be Good To Me" which would be a hit for Tina Turner. Spider also had Anton Fig, of the Late Night With Letterman band, on drums.
- John Waite had help from some note worthy musicians in his backing band. Lead guitarist Frank Linx worked with Eddie Money, Pat Benatar and Del Lords. Rhythm guitarist Ivan Kral has worked with Shaun Cassidy, Blondie, Patti Smith. and Iggy Pop. Bassist Donnie Nossov played with Pat Benatar. Drummer Frankie La Rocca played with Scandal, David Johansen, Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams as well as produced The Spin Doctors debut album. While keyboardist Peter Reilich has worked with Gary Wright, Persia, Alessi Brothers, The Strand and Foreigner.
- Axe was on tour for their third album, Offering.
- Only one song in Axe's set, "Running The Gauntlet" was not from Offering. It appeared on the prior album Living On The Edge.
- After Axe's 1984 tour, lead guitarist Bobby Barth and rhythm guitarist Michael Osborne were in a devistating car crash. Michael Osborne died while Bobby Barth suffered terrible injuries. The band broke up and Barth worked on other projects. The band reformed in 1997 and are active to this day.
- Original Axe drummer Ted Mueller passed away June 29, 2012, he was 57.

JustDave's Notes:
Recording And Editing Notes:
- Box set came with no cue sheets found very small cue sheet scan on-line.
- All label and box scans from original box and albums.
- Preservation being key the show is encoded complete with voice overs and commercials.
- Commercials and voice overs indexed so they may be omitted if so desired.
- Flat transfer, EQ off, bass & treble set at +/- zero for truest sound of vinyl.
- Some clicks/pops manualy removed, some noise reduction was used.
- All editing done in 24bit/96khz.
Additional Notes:
- Used copies of Greenpeace Rainbow Warriors Compilation CD sell for $0.63 US on Discogs, about 50 copies are available. On Ebay the vinyl averages $50.00 US.
- The compilation consists of previously released material, I could not find chart listings for it.
- Of the 3 artists in the Rainbow Warriors ads, only Bruce Hornsby is featured on the compilation.
- Permanent Vacation has been certified 5x Platinum in the USA and Canada. It was Aerosmith's first Gold Album in The UK.
- There was 5 singles released to varying degrees of success. "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)", "Rag Doll", "Hang Man Jury", "Angel" and "Magic Touch" all got the single nod.
- The Permanent Vacation Tour saw White Lion, Dokken, Extreme and Guns And Roses as opening acts.
- The Permanent Vacation Tour was the first tour Aerosmith did sober. The backstage guests and opening acts were asked not to do drugs or drink in front of the band because of fear they may relapse.
- When Guns And Roses were on the tour, rumor was Aerosmith needed to put in writing Guns And Roses could not drink or do drugs back stage.
- Beer and liquor sales at some venues were cut off during Aerosmith's performances.
Side Notes:
- 2 things that I love about this recording is #1 Tom Hamilton's bass solo on the extended ending of "Same Old Song And Dance". #2 hearing the twin guitar attack of Joe Perry and Brad Whitford on "Lightning Strikes" which only Whitford played on in the studio.
- I'm willing to bet that the Bob Mould Greenpeace Spot is the only air time he ever got on most stations that carried this show.
The latest in my Pre-FM collection. This one was bought for me by Rosebud for Chistmas 2024. I have one more album from that group of LPs she bought then other projects are in the works.

Draftervoi's Notes:
The cue sheet was lost along the way. I've included a scan of the record label.
Bobby Bare's long career started with rock and roll releases in the 1950s. He had a notable snafu with his first self-penned hit, 'The All American Boy." Bare made a demo for Bill Parsons to teach him the song, Capitol Records pressed up Bare's demo instead of Parson's take, but credited the record to Parsons. The song went to #2 in the U.S.A. and #22 on the British charts and still shows up as a hit for Bill Parsons.
In the 1960's, Bare moved from rock n' roll to straight country, and had a string of hits, including some that crossed over to the pop charts. These pop-cross overs led to Bare's inclusion in Dave Marsh's 1989 book, The Heart of Rock and Soul: The 1001 Greatest Singles Ever Made. Marsh listed two entries by Bobby Bare, both from 1963: Detroit City at #337 and 500 Miles Away From Home at #901.
While it wasn't included in Marsh's list, Bare had another hit in 1966 that's become a standard. Bare recorded the original hit version of "Streets of Baltimore," a song written by Tompall Glaser and Harlan Howard in 1966. While there were many cover versions, an early 1970's cover by Gram Parsons is a definitive version, and was recently topically featured on the HBO series The Wire, as the show is set in Baltimore.
In the mid to late 70's, Bare had a series of humorous novelty hits, including Numbers, The Winner, and the sublimely ridiculous Dropkick Me, Jesus. (Note: The word "tempestion" appears to have been entirely made up for this song,)
This syndicated show was produced by the Clayton Webster Corp. of St. Louis, Missouri. Incorporated in January of 1978, the Clayton Webster Corp. also produced the "Retro Rock" show, syndicated from 1981 to 1984. The "outro" to the show says that the Live From The Lone Star Cafe show was carried on "more than 200 American radio stations...every week," which gives us an approximate number of copies pressed. The numbering sequence on the these shows included a three letter code of "LSC" followed by a year and and an ascending show number: LSC-7901, LSC-7902, LSC-7903, etc. I've seen copies of Live From The Lone Star Cafe series with numbering indicating the show ran from 1979 to 1981 It looks like Clayton Webster got out of syndication of live concerts by the mid-80s.

- Waves can confused Traders Little Helper so spectral of raw master wave is included.
- Recorder can be tempermental with CD-rs multiple discs used to minimize bad discs.

Editing Notes:
- Preservation being key the show was encoded complete with commercials & voice overs.
- Commercials and voice overs index so they can be omitted if so desired.
- Manually declicked in Goldwave.
- Track 28 Duration commercial had bad skip, replaced with Track 16 Duration commercial.
- Some vinyl noises may still be audible, de-click was done to make listening comfortable not sterile.
Other Notes:
- Westwood One put the show promo 1st on the LP, so that's where it's left.
- Westwood One used a much heavier grain vinyl for the Westwood One Presents shows than others.
- Westwood One packed over 55 minutes onto 1 LP which makes for close grooves - see above comment
- Show date identified by comparing to an FM broadcast recording I have on my hard drive.
- There is a longer FM broadcast recording in circulation of this concert.

Now here is a rarity! There are barely any Hank Williams Jr shows on the net let alone a Pre-FM!! This is the next in line of the Westwood One shows Rosebud bought me for Christmas. I'm really proud to have found this one on Ebay. Even more proud of my Rosebud for buying it for me! Now it's available to you as well. I have an MP3 encoded FM broadcast recording I got from Hear Rock City a few years back on an older site. It is the FM broadcast I mention in my notes above. I don't know if they have it posted at the new site or not. At that time they were the only blog that had any Hank Williams Jr at all...

- Declicked manualy and some noise reduction used depending on what best served the situation.
- A 60k high pass filter was run to reduce some needle noise
About The Show:
- The host never identifies himself during the program, it doesn't happen often.
- The Twisted Sister portion of the show is the famous MTV Concert from The Orange Pavlion, San Bernadino California, May 19, 1984.
- Twisted Sister included a free DVD of The MTV Concert in full with the Double CD 25th Anniversary Edition of Stay Hungry. The DVD was only available at Independent Record Stores. The DVD was given away for free to anyone who bought the 25th Anniversary Stay Hungry Double CD.
- The Stevie Ray Vaughan portion of the show had a bit of a mystery about it's date. It has been bootlegged a lot with the wrong date and location.
- Commonly dated as The Country Club, Reseda, California October 26, 1983, because Westwood One's host says that is the location. This fact however is wrong. Stevie Ray Vaughan was on the East Coast of America opening for The Moody Blues at that time.
- Westwood One, King Biscuit and the rest do make mistakes when it comes to the date and location of shows
- Newspaper articles found by Draftervoi and contained in the News Coverage folder, show the concert took place at The Hollywood Palace, Hollywood, California, August 22, 1983.
- The cue sheet track listing for Stevie Ray Vaughan is so wrong, it is almost laughable.
Other Notes:
- This was one of the most expensive Pre-FM record sets I have purchased to date. I thought this was due to Stevie Ray Vaughan being one of the artists. Actually it's due to the inclusion of Twisted Sister. Not a lot of Heavy Metal were on the original Westwood One programs. This makes them more "valuable" to collectors so more expensive when sold. Stevie Ray Vaughan may have played a small role in the price of the show, Twisted Sister were the main cause.

I personally can never get enough of Return To Forever. No matter what line-up you listen to they are simply one of the best Jazz Fusion groups ever, in my opinion anyway. This is yet another fabulous performance everyone should own! Have A Great Sunday!!
