One of my favorite bands, really. Sunn O))) play a style of Heavy Metal called Drone Doom. Think a VERY Heavy Metal variation of Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music or The Nels Cline Singers. I love to smoke some really good weed, put Sunn O))) on, turn on the sub woofer, set in the sweet spot between the speakers and just float. I feel as if I am floating along on this primal wave of sound. I have seen people at Sunn O)) concerts lie down on the floor to better feel the vibrations run through their body. Sunn O))) have collaborated with other Noise/Drone Music Artists like Boris and Merzbow as well as Black Metal Artists such as Xasther, Leviathan and Attila Csihar, vocalist for Mayhem & Tormentor. This is a great way to get a taste of what Sunn O))) are all about. PLAY VERY LOUD FOR MAXIMUM EFFECT!!

Show is in one long file but the performance is one continuous piece of music.

SunnO))) play an extreme form or metal music labeled as Drone Doom. Formed in 1998 in Seattle Washington by Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson partially in homage to the band earth. The band was also influenced by Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music and other such Noise/Music projects. The band performs in dark monk robes drenched in fog and at extreme volumes. The band uses ultra low tunings such as drop A. Songs move along at a snails pace with very little percussion, vocals are delivered as moans, groans, throat chanting and other rhythmic forms of vocalization. The band builds it's sound pieces on the echo, drones, vibrations & feedback given off by their instruments and amplifiers. Sounds are manipulated, filtered and processed to create new sounds, all of which comes together in a type of primal anti-music. I have actually seen fans lying on the floor at concerts to get .."the full effect of the show". Live performances usually are one long musical piece improvised around the basic formats of released musical pieces. SunnO))) is an acquired taste but if you are into earth, Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music, Swans, Boris or Merzbow you might want to check out SunnO))).
