Been A Little While, Here Is Some New Music

 Sorry it's been so long since the last post. I had been banned from computer work at night by Rosebud. See I was doing my website stuff at night after she was in bed. I started doing it that way since she went back to work. I was sitting st my computer one night working on a DVD audio rip.I was smoking some very good medical marijuana which should be no surprise. I took a hit, set my pipe and lighter down...the next thing I know I was "waking up" on the floor with Rosebud trying to help me to my chair. Yep, it was the weed, never happened to me before but I've seen it happen a few times. Rosebud however (God bless her she takes such good care of me) didn't accept that as a answer. She banned me from working on my computer when she wasn't awake or home (so almost never). So since she is my partner in everything I said okay. Rosebud had me into our family doctor for a physical and my neurologist for tests. The conclusion of both, be a little more careful smoking my weed because of my nephropathy medication. It heightens the "high" of marijuana (who knew). I have always been truthful with my Doctors about my smoking. None of them had told me, but I guess I should have known. Rosebud lectured me, but here I am!!

As far as music goes all of the Christmas Music links should still be working. We have 24 Christmas related shows online for your pleasure. Let me know if any do not work let me know. I posted a few more shows as well. A Peter Green Era Fleetwood Mac Transmission Impossible 3 CD set, A soundboard recording from Al Di Meola, A Doors recording from 1970 that is supposed to be a lower quality broadcast recording but I think it's an excellent audience recording, an awesome FM broadcast recording of The Legendary Hot Tuna, An FM broadcast recording of the Vince Gill era Pure Prairie League, and a DVD audio rip of a Chris Cornell solo acoustic show.

About us...Rosebud continues to grow more comfortable in her job. She also has risen in the ranks since there is so many people looking for better jobs than they had before the covid-19 lock down. There have been a few people leave the business so Rosebud was able to elevate to a slightly higher position. I am so lucky to have such a wonderful wife for the past 24 years!

I just finished this DVD audio rip recently. It's a pretty good sounding recording. I did have to lower the volume slightly because of some red lights but no other work was needed. I also added a fade in and fade out at the beginning and end respectively. The DVD had lossy audio so I encoded the resultant wave files to MP3 320kbps

Radio broadcast live recordings of The Doors in concert at the Seattle Center Coliseum, June 5th,1970.
This uses the complete recording in correct running order. 

"Light My Fire" is cut (duration 2:27) because recorder Vince Treanor's tape ended before the song was performed entirely.
"The End" was played at the end of the concert but not captured on tape, the power was cut and the house lights were turned on.

justdave's notes:
The flac files were full of sector boundary errors. I fixed those by decoding files and re-encoding them with Trader's Little Helper aligning all sector boundaries using fix. Also all the art and paper work says this is a broadcast but I'm not too sure about that...To me it sounds like an excellent audience recording or a stage recording. It was said by Doors producer Paul A. Rothchild that The Doors never took a PA on the road with them. They used the PA of the venue for vocals and their stage gear, that was it. This is even true of the dates recorded for The Doors Absolutely Live.

What can you say about Linda Ronstadt that hasn't been said. She is one of the greatest vocalists ever to sing Rock, Country, Pop and more. For me there was just something about Linda that just made me a long time fan. I never stopped buying her records through all the changes in styles. There is not a lot of artist I an say that about. I mean there is Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Opeth, Venom, and a few more,. I however haven't bought a Rolling Stones album since Emotional Rescue. The last Aerosmith album I bought was Done With Mirrors, Foreigner I gave up on after I bought Agent Provocateur, Jefferson Starship after Freedom At Point Zero but I absolutely love Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music, there is no figuring out anyone's taste I guess.

I watched a documentary 2 days ago called Punk. It was a 4 part documentary about Punk Rock from inception through it's development into a newer form of Power Punk Pop. They of course interviewed Iggy Pop (but not a mention of Lou Reed). Iggy stressed the importance of The Kinks, specifically the single "You Really Got Me" to Punk Rock. There is no denying the importance of The Kinks to Punk (especially to those that lived it). They forgot to mention the importance of Lou Reed, Velvet Underground, The Troggs & early Who recordings. If you can't see the inspiration of early Who tracks like "Run, Run, Run", "Disguises" & "My Generation" on Punk, I can't help you. If you don't know The Troggs were a big influence on Punk Rock, it could be forgiven these days.

The Troggs, along with a lot of other great bands can get lost along the road of time. You get a certain set of songs on Classic Rock Radio. That set is what most radio programmers think is classic. The Troggs are regulated to memory by one song "Wild Thing" (very Proto-Punk, Metal & Grunge!). You can not  listen to these 22 songs, 2 tracks are interviews, without realizing how much The Troggs influenced Punk Rock. "I Can Only Give You Everything" is a great example (MC5 covered it as their 1st single) but the song "The Yella In Me" is the best Proto-Punk song lyrically I ever heard. How Punk is it to write a song saying that You let a bully scare you into giving up your girlfriend? Don't take my word for it, download this show and hear for yourself. You know you want it just for the live version of "Wild Thing" anyway, right?

 Hi everyone, just wanted to drop a line and say that I have some things uploading that I hope to have posted within the next couple of days. Been on a Southern Rock kick lately so there will be some Skynyrd coming up. A Who Pre-FM, as well as something from The Troggs . A Joe Lovano & Dave Douglas broadcast recording rounds out the new stuff

I will also be re-posting the Heart shows that Melapelan6666 pointed out as having bad links.

 My free time has now gotten to be a little smaller. Rosebud is back to work full time now. She had to quarantine with me for the since maybe April or May of 2020. My doctor didn't want her bringing covid home to me being a cancer patient. In her line of work she deals with the public a lot. I am so proud of her, she not only went back to work but has a new job with a better work environment  and better pay for doing relatively the same thing she was doing. So I have to do the things that she can't do when she's not home (LOL).

 Now about my health, my doctor says diabetes seems to be in good control. My neuropothy pain has been controlled to the point I can help around the house a little better (I'm retired by the way). My cancer doctor says that my tumor is in a place that makes it so we can not do the cryosurgery, to much of a chance damaging my urethra. This doctor who is my third doctor I have seen for my prostate cancer. He asked about that and I said I wanted to be really sure about things, not just a second but a third opinion. My doctors have all advised me that I should just monitor my cancer. There is a lot to the explanation so I won't get technical. What it kind of comes to is my cancer has not progressed since my diagnosis 6 years ago. My PSA numbers are still low,the tumor is still very small. The options left, chemo and prostatectomy both can cause major side effects. None have actually recommended anything but lets just watch it. They all say that I could live to my 80s and still only be stage 2 Gleason 6. So I could do one of the other procedures if I decide to but they don't recommend it. It's like my Dad, he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and was told he had 5 to 10 years left tops. That was 25 years ago and he is still only stage 2. Weird!!

I Am Still Here - So Here Is More Stuff

 Sorry it's not more but We have 3 great recordings to share with you this time. It's also a little slim on the genres, were have Punk, & Jazz. The Blasters are on the list with a great Pre-FM recording for Pre-FM Season. We have Bad Religion with a great sounding show for our Roots Of Heavy Metal post. No Punk Rock like Bad Religion No Slayer!!! Then the Legendary Keith Jarrett is on deck for my fellow Jazz Fans. It's a great solo improv show, so it's a must have.

Things are moving along nicely on the cancer front. I've had my MRI for the surgery. They showed me the tumor on it, it's tiny, Thank God!! My Doctor has to take a look at the results. My next appointment to see him is in a couple weeks. If all goes well then, we will be scheduling the cryosurgery.

I can not put into words how much all of your kind words, in all of the comments. They really do help!! I promised not to get preachy about it, just share my experience along the way. I have to say this though. My Doctor keeps stressing how much early detection has played in my illness and treatment. I had regular prostrate exams every year with my physicals. I was adopted so I do not know my real fathers medical history. My family Doctor recommended regular exams due to this lack of history. So I did, and he found a tumor that my cancer Doctor still can not feel in a manual exam!!! He said something felt a little weird and that he and I quote "..will not fuck around with such things... I am sending you to a urologist to have a look", and the rest is of course history. So please guys, get checked....

 Here is some more music for you all.

First of all Rosebud & I would like to Thank Everyone who left words of encouragement and prayers for my recovery. We were overwhelmed at the comments you all left (stoner thought, overwhelmed is a strange word does anyone say I'm whelmed). Again Thank You Very Much. I am awaiting word from the Doctor if we are on for the procedure we decided upon or not. I am doing well, I am tired a lot, but I have my Rosebud for help. Rosebud has returned to work now that we are fully vaccinated. I miss having her here with me all day. She actually started a new job which she loves. It also pays better too, so my medical expenses won't break us. Wow the power of friends and family pulling for you is awesome!

For your listening pleasure we have one of my newest additions to my collection, Guns N Roses live in South America 1991-1993. It's a 5CD Box set of broadcasts on radio and TV. The sound is really good and gives you a total of 5 hours of live GNR.

Sorry About The Delays In The New Music Posts!!

 Since reactivating this music blog I have been sharing with you my fight with prostate cancer. That is actually 1 of the things that distracted me from the blog the last few weeks. My original cancer Doctor retired, but before doing so had told me there was some growth in the cancer. He referred me to a surgeon who I was waiting to see the last few weeks. So lots of nervous anxiety was hanging over the house. Rosebud's been a nervous wreck. Well I have seen the Doctor who told me that the growth was minimal and we came to a treatment agreement. I first need to have an MRI to confirm before we can treat. I then will be undergoing a cryosurgery to remove the tumor without removing the prostate. Which should make me cancer free....

Rosebud & I, to anyone of our readers struggling with cancer or any other terrible disease, Wish You Our Love And Prayers!! Keep Fighting!!

I had to edit out blank spots at the end and beginning of tracks on this one before sharing it with you. I downloaded this from a website called Flac.xyz. It has a lot of commercially available music for download there but you can also find bootlegs. The cool thing about this collection is that it showcases both Ace Frehley and Bruce Kulick on guitar. They both play different styles and it's nice to be able to compare. Also Ace Frehley and Bruce Kulick are very responsible for the life of this band. After Ace left Kiss had a bit of a revolving door for the lead guitarist position. Dick Wagner, Rick Derringer, Robin Ford, & Vinny Vincent filled in when Ace missed recording sessions. Vinny Vincent became the Egyptian Warrior to be the first Ace replacement on stage. The band then dropped the makeup in the 1980s, when the guitarist was Vinny Vincent, no Mark St, John, no Bruck Kulick....Are You Listening Tommy Thayer!? They didn't try to mimic Ace. They brought their own influence to the fold. Vinny and Mark were shredders to the core bringing the Heavy Metal/Hard Rock influences back to the music. Bruce Kulick besides being a great player and writer, brought stability back to the band.

The show is hosted by Perry Stone.  This version does not have commercials on it.  There was also another version of the show with national commercials.

All tracks are recorded live at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena on December 11, 1980 during Jethro Tull's "A" tour. The internet says this concert was previously released in 1981 as one of the 3LP "A Night On The Road" syndicated radio broadcasts (ANOTR-581).  The "A Night On The Road" version includes three songs missing on this Captured Live! show: "Working John Working Joe", "Protect And Survive", and "Locomotive Breath", but is missing "Batteries Not Included" and "Uniform" (included on here).

I don't have the ANOTR version, but I'll keep an eye on EBAY.  It'll turn up eventually, and if so, I'll throw a bid at it.

The Internet also tells me that Perry Stone erroneously mentions Peter-John Vettese as the keyboard-player where it should be Eddie Jobson. The Internet is a bit of a know-it-all, isn't it?

The tracks on the syndicated broadcast are in a different running order than the original concert.

Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena was built in Exposition Park in 1959 and featured an elliptical transverse steel truss roof with a span: 315 feet x 430 feet. The structure was demolished in 2016.  It had a capacity of 22,400 seats and cost $5.2 million to build.

For our Out Of Print Music this week we have the very first Pantera demo/album, Metal Magic. I know you Pantera fans that don't have this were hoping it was coming up after I posted Power Metal. Those of you who don't know the past of Pantera are probably wondering what the big deal is. This release with former lead singer Terry "Terance Lee" Glaze is a far cry from the Pantera of Far Beyond Driven. This is Pantera in full grip of their Glam Metal influences. This album and the 2 that follow, Projects In The Jungle & I Am The Night (yes to be posted soon too) sound more like On Through The Night era Def Leppard (with a firm agreement from m that the first 2 Leppard albums are their best). Terry Glaze can hit the high notes that Phillip Anselmo can't. Those high pitched screams on Cowboys From Hell killed his voice when Pantera started to Road Dog it to promote their official debut. On this album and the next 2 following you get to hear Diamond Darrell out play every guitar player in the 1980's Glam/Hair Metal craze as his brother Vinnie lays waste to their drummers. If these guys had followed this path into stardom we may not have had a lot of those Glam/Hair bands. Their guitarists would through their guitars away or go back to the drawing board. Also the sound and influence of the band Exhorder may not have escaped the Metal underground.

I love Gil Scott-Heron's music. Great Funk/Jazz/Soul music with such world conscious lyrics. No innuendo hear Gill really wants you to hear and understand his message. The great thing is like Maven Gaye's politically and socially conscious What's Going On" You can really enjoy the music for the music as well. Since the dawn of the evolution of mankind music has been the way to bare your inner soul. To To celebrate your successes, to raise your spirits in times of strife, to morn your losses. Music is the only thing in life known to stimulate and activate the entire brain. Music is scientifically proven to help you learn because of that very unique active brain state (I invite you all to check of the book "This Is Your Brain On Music by Daniel J. Levitin) So the politically charged music of Wood Guthrie (This Land Is Your Land is a very political statement), Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Jefferson Airplane, Gil Scott-Heron, N.W.A., Public Enemy, Rage Against The Machine etc was/is very effective in spreading the political and socially messages of their times.

As most of you know, I love Jazz Musicians playing Rock band's songs. This concert is a Tribute To The Song Writing Of The Beatles. It's a unique sound with piano, vibes, and trombone playing "Come Together", but rather enjoyable. This has become my new favorite tribute concert recording (they change with my whims of course). I recommend this one, no really I do.

I ripped the waves with DVD Audio Extractor. I used Goldwave to adjust a couple track marks. No work was done to the audio itself. No EQ, noise reduction, remastering, remixing, or volume adjustments were needed.

Thrash Metal from The Legendary Flotsam And Jetsam. After giving up one of their main song writers to Metallica (Jason Newsted) Flots recovered quick but never rose to the heights of Metallica. Then again Flotsam And Jetsam have stuck to their Metal Roots, like Testament, instead of chasing Chart Number Glory by Mellowing their style to the point of being unrecognizable. Flots still sound as great live today as they did back in the 80's with Eric A.K. still able to belt them out. Even hitting some impressive high notes on the older material, unlike some other singers of the era (Joey Belladona).

For this weeks History Of Hard Rock And Metal we have Michigan's Grand Funk Railroad. Grand Funk Railroad were a big influence on a lot of Hard Rock/Traditional Metal bands. At one point in their career, Grand Funk outsold Led Zeppelin in America in records and concerts. One concert in particular lives on in Michigan Rock And Roll History. Grand Funk was the opening act for Led Zeppelin at Detroit's Michigan Palace (now a parking lot). After Led Zeppelin took the stage, the loyal Detroit Grand Funksters booed, demanding Grand Funk come back for more. The crowd was so rowdy and demanding Led Zeppelin left the stage, the concert halted. It actually happened, I have witnessed Detroit fans run off some of the sturdiest of bands. When Ozzy Osbourne first played Detroit after leaving Sabbath it was at The Masonic Temple Theater with Motörhead and Detroit's own R.U.R opening the show. The Detroit Ozzy fans booed so hard Hometown boys R.U.R didn't finish their first song. Motörhead took the stage with Lemmy saying "We Are Motörhead, We are the best band in the world and we are finishing our set!" The Detroit audience said "Challenge accepted, hold my beer" as they pelted Motörhead with everything they were holding, including their beer. I personally got into a fist fight with a guy that hit me as he attempted to pelt Lemmy with a handful of change. Motörhead left the stage in the middle of their 3rd song. Ozzy came out and threw raw meat at the audience, people just rolled on the floor in it. Detroit!?

For our Salute To Progressive Rock Bands we have Emerson, Lake & Powell. Carl Palmer was busy so not wanting to sit aside Keith Emerson & Greg Lake found another P for ELP in Cozy Powell. It was even a C.P. as well (Carl, Cozy ok I laughed). Only recording one album and undertaking only one tour, this line up is a bookmark like Ian Gillan with Black Sabbath or Buggles with Yes (for me Emerson, Lake & Powell and Sabbath Ian Gillan were to better effect than Buggles and Yes Imho).
