Here's the most recent addition to the Space Fleet which I received from India just a few days ago. This is a clone of the Marusan X-110 Space Scout (seen here on Alphadrome). The lithography isn't as detailed and my sample is missing the tail wheel but overall it's yet another interesting addition to the fleet. I have no clue who the manufacturer is or when it was made but it certainly adds to the greater space toy 'story' as it were. It measures 7" (17.78cm) L x 5" (12.7cm) wingspan x 2 1/4" (5.71cm) H. Nomura Friction Powered Atomic Spacehip XX-2 1960
New to the Space Fleet is this nifty tin-litho spaceship from Nomura. It was offered as the 'Friction Powered Atomic Spaceship' in 1960 and originally would have had a red plastic fin assembly sticking out of the rear exhaust. There was a sparkling mechanism in the ship which I'm sure the fin assembly enhanced but in looking at photos of a complete example I can see why so many of these toys are missing that plastic assemblage. The fins look spindly and appear to be prone to breakage and the fin assembly appears to be a friction fit into the exhaust. Also, to me, it looks rather awkward and ungainly. I believe the spaceship sans plastic fins is more attractive. You can see a boxed version of the XX-2 here at the Alphadrome site. My example measures 10 3/4" (27.30cm) L (w/o plastic fin assembly) x 4" (10.16cm) wingspan x 3 1/2" (8.89cm) H. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina
