Sharp Shinned Hawk Las Vegas, NV 10 Januar 2016

The yard was full of birds today: Sparrows, House Finches, Red Wing Blackbirds, Mourning Doves, Great Tailed Grackles, European Starlings, our latest visitor the Yellow Rumped Warbler, and of course, Pigeons. It probably helped that I filled both bird feeders with seed this morning and did the one thing experts say not to do; put seed on the ground. Oh heck, I can't help it.
And then it happened. All of a sudden the Starlings flew past like a bat outta hell  and the rest took off en masse as if having seen a banshee. In the bird world this was the next best thing - a Sharp Shinned Hawk took up a perch in our tree! Yup, the fella was just lookin' for a quick snack!

Adult Sharp Shinned Hawk

It continuously amazes me at the variety of birds Bettina has been able to photograph right from our backyard in an urban environment. Just yesterday she captured this adult Sharp Shinned Hawk in our tree! She's been soooo busy with the grand-baby and chores I said I would post these for her. Hope you Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina
