BREWERIANA: Parkbräu Bier .5l 'P' 1961 Oktober-Fest

This is the last Parkbräu piece I have to blog. I totally forgot where I got this from, but unlike nearly all my other Parkbräu pieces, which I acquired in Good 'Ol Deutschland, I believe this one was a fleaBay purchase.

BREWERIANA: Parkbräu - .4l SAHM Elsbeth and Bert Clear Glass Beer Mug

Now here's a glass that hits home on several fronts. First, the glass was made by 'SAHM", a company located not far from Bettina's house in the Westerwald. Secondly, the couple depicted on the glass - Elsbeth and Bert - were local singers popular in the Zweibrücken area were I was stationed. Thirdly, while singing Volksmuzik at night, during the day, Bert worked down the hall from me in the Inventory Section of Base Supply!! I was totally unaware of this glass until coming here to Vegas. A friend of mine - Mike - who was also stationed at Sunny Zwei had the glass and I offered him a lot of $$, explaining to him that I had worked with Bert. So one day he showed up at the house and gave it to me!!! AWESOME - MANY THANX MIKE - GOD BLESS!

Parkbräu Beer Wall Plate

This decorative hanging wall plate has an interesting back story. A few months after arriving here in Las Vegas back in 1991, we went to a flea market not far from the house. Outside on one of the vendor's tables was this plate. I paid a whopping $1 for it and went away from that flea market a happy camper. It measures about 10" in diameter (I didn't take any notes and unfortunately it has now been put away). Be Blessed and Relish Life! Ed

Here's another artifact from our Parkbräu Bier collection, a nice clear glass ashtray with white center motif. There's no manufacturer's mark so I don't know who made it. It measures ca5 1/4" square (13.33cm) Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

The stein was made by Rastal GmbH & Co.KG located in  Höhr-Grenzhausen in the Westerwald region of Germany. Parkbräu Bier / Beer .5l 'P' w-Tophat Barrel Mug by Marzi and Remy - Ceramic

Here's a nicely designed beer mug in the shape of a beer barrel. The maker's mark at the bottom is an 'M' over 'R' within a box whic I believe is Marzi and Remy founded in 1879 in Höhr, Hesse-Nassau, Prussia. (now Höhr-Grenzhausen, Rhineland-Palatinate) very close to Bettina's hometown in the Westerwald. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

Parkbräu Bier (Beer) Aschenbescher (Ashtray) - White

Here's another nice Parkbräu ashtray that one would probably have seen in a small tavern or Gaststätte and is rather delicate - it wouldn't stand up to a lot of banging around! It measures 6 3/4" (17.14cm) diameter and is made by Sahm GmbH & Co. KG in Höhr-Grenzhausen in the Westerwald, a town I'm familiar with having been there a gazillion times while driving to Bettina's old house. Many of the Parkbräu items in the collection were made by Sahm  Viel Spaß! Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

Parkbräu Beer Wagon, Zweibrücken, Germany

Beer wagons are cool. Even if you don't drink beer it's not hard to appreciate their uniqueness. Some are large and grandiose like the Budweiser wagon while others are small and quaint. Among the 'small and quaint' variety is this wagon from Zweibrücken, Germany. These photos were taken at one of the many fests during the 1980's and it was actually my first time (that I can remember) seeing a beer wagon in real life after having seen them on TV and in the movies. As I begin to photograph or scan more of the collection we'll be posting more beer stuff, so for now - Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

"Hopfen und Malz
Gott erhalt's"

Roughly translated: "Hops and malt God preserves". Or "Hops and malt never get old"

It rhymes a whole lot better in German!!

Parkbräu Beer Ashtray - Green

Beer. We haven't done anything with The Brew yet on the blog but I do believe we're gonna start. It's funny but none of us here at the Toys and Stuff homestead are big beer drinkers. And even though we live in the desert there have been years where not one bottle was bought and drank, we just don't have a need for alcohol. That being said, even as a kid I liked all the paraphernalia that surrounded beer and beer brewing and the mystique surrounding it. Growing up near Miller brewery in Milwaukee there were times during the brewing process when the air was thick with the sweet, malty, hoppy aroma wafting over the neighborhood from the brewery. It's a smell that can't adequately be described but it's heavenly (and beats the hell out of the smell coming from the tire warehouse nearby!!). I remember one of my uncles had his basement all decked out as a den with bar and beer lights and clocks and stuff and I thought it was cool :-). Clocks. Beer clocks. The very best beer clocks back in the day were the clocks made for Hamm's beer. Most of them had beautiful backlit pictures of waterfalls or streams and many had effects which made the water look alive. But I digress....

As an adult stationed in Germany I finally got a chance to pick up some beer accouterments, and where better to do in than in Good Old Deutschland! Steins, mugs, glasses, ashtrays, coasters -  a beer collector's heaven. The local brewery, Parkbräu (pronounced PARK-broi) didn't disappoint having many of its own souvenirs. In Germany there are brewery's everywhere. You can't drive far without tripping over one. They'll even deliver to your door! (yeah, take that Coors and Budweiser you sloths). In our area Parkbräu had two breweries, one in Zweibrücken and one in Pirmasens so there were plenty of opportunities to pick up stuff. Well, without further ado let's start with this nice dark green ashtray. It's a heavy sucker and meant for use at more robust locations like the local Gastätte or tavern and measures 5 3/4" (14.6cm) in diameter. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina
