TRAIN TIME: A Bad Day in Marxville - Pt 6 The Fourth Alarm

The conflagration is complete as the last building in the tenement block catches fire. It is a day Marxville residents will not soon forget!

The hi-rise burning building is a cardboard structure from an MPC playset

The streets are full of apparatus' and firemen

I hope you liked this mini-series of  a city in chaos. I wanted to finally see what some of my burning buildings would look like on a layout and I wanted to play with my Auburn emergency vehicles (there's a few more thrown in there from other manufacturers as well). Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

TRAIN TIME: A Bad Day in Marxville - Pt 3 The First Alarm

This is 'the other side of the tracks' in Marxville. An older neighborhood where building and fire codes are lax and not enforced with the vigor required to keep a neighborhood safe.

TRAIN TIME: A Bad Day in Marxville - Pt 2 A City Awakes

Setting up the New Layout with larger buildings was fun and gave me a chance to put together a small story line. Hope you - Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

It's early morning and s few people are beginning to hit the streets. Tankers make their deliveries of gasoline to the service stations across town...

The trucking terminal is already busy...

(the terminal was made by T. Cohn and has a lot more pieces than what is shown. There is a large sign which sits on the roof but that, along with all the detail pieces are still in the box.) I'll have to post this structure sometime in the future.

The streets are still a bit bare of vehicles

The Supermarket isn't yet open but is accepting the days' deliveries

Diners head for an early morning breakfast...

A few people are out and about..

The Police train was busy helping to apprehend this escaped baddie...

Beware the too quiet morning...

TRAIN TIME: A Bad Day in Marxville - Pt 1 Johnny's Police Train and An Idea for A Photo Shoot

You know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men right? Well, I had fully planned on clearing off the train table (what I've been calling the 'New Layout' the past 18 months or so) so that I could start photographing some of my playsets.  The layout was populated with cardboard buildings from Built-Rite and others.

It was a nice set-up and I enjoyed it but it always meant to be a temporary set-up anyway, so  a couple of weeks ago I cleared nearly everything off and this is what it looked like. The loop of track was still there as well as the Built-Right city background.

Yup, I was ready for other things, until...

...until I had an on-line chat with a fellow Marx train enthusiast. I told him about a custom Police train made by Johnny Thompson (owner/moderator of the facebook 'Marx_trains' group) and my friend wanted to see pics of it....

...with the table cleared it occurred to me that I had a fairly clean canvas to work with for another display. So I decided to take out buildings that haven't been on the layout before and put together a whole new display with an entirely different, and somewhat unexpected theme. To see what I did, stay tuned for new installments, but first here's a look at the custom Police train Johnny made. This was his first ever custom train made from essentially junkers and I enjoyed running it. It has some nice features on it that make it a toy a kid of any age would love playing with. Enjoy!
