Auto Hauler Convoy

I pulled out all the small toy auto hauler's in the collection (there's only four) and thought it would be neat to photograph them as a convoy. Sometime last year Google added a nice little feature to its photo albums - the ability to make your own .GIF's. Prior to that .GIF's were made under program control based on the photos you uploaded - sometimes they turned out pretty good (and quite a few had been posted to this blog) but other times they weren't so hot. But now one can upload 2-to-50 stills to create their own animation and so with that in mind, this was my first attempt at making a .GIF on my own. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

Front to back: Ideal, Allied, Wyandotte, Marx

Allied Auto Hauler

The fleet of small plastic auto hauler's has grown by one with the addition of this nifty Allied Auto Carrier from the early 1950s. With light blue tractor, red trailer, and yellow, green and blue cars this is certainly a colorful addition. Measuring 9 1/2" (24.13cm) L x 1 3/4" (4.44cm) W x 1 3/4" (1.44c m) H it has an operating ramp for the lower deck - upper deck cars are on their own WATCH OUT BELOW :-) All the sedans are marked 'BV4872' on the rear license plate. It's funny but one of the yellow cars is just a pinch taller than the rest and therefore won't fit in the lower deck without a struggle. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

You'll notice the back car on the lower deck does not fit well. Apparently that's the way this was designed because photos in Bill Hanlon's "DIMESTORE DREAMS Plastic Toys of the '40s & '50s" bear this out as well

Let's unload these to our fantasy car dealership

Lower deck unloading - null problemo

Upper deck - OOPS!

Well, looks like they're none the worse for wear!
