Americana #98530 Authentic Gettysburg Action Figures Playset - Pt 3

The Americana #98530 Authentic Gettysburg Action Figures Playset includes enough figures and accessories to make a nice display and I wanted to see how they would all fit on the display base I made. The only things left out were the flagpoles and Gen Lee's headquarters which was too big to fit comfortably anywhere on the display. Here's a few shot of the results. Enjoy! Civil War Diorama Photos

I think somewhere along the line I posted that this year was the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. If I did then that was a BIG booboo! The Sesquicentennial (150 years) of Gettysburg was last year!! However, that being said, the Civil War was fought from 1861 to 1865 and Sesquicentennial celebrations of one sort or another have been going on for several years now and will continue on until next year. I am glad though that this diorama was finished in time for this years' Gettysburg anniversary and so for the next few days we're gonna post some pics taken with a few of my favorite Civil War toys. Hopefully I'll be able to do some more photo set-ups with the various toys featured so far here on Toys and Stuff so  with that in mind: Bettina & Fritz Berg :) Enjoy :)

Here's the Classic Toys Soldiers 6-horse limber, caisson, and cannon. This is one of my favorite ACW accessories and at 22" long is one of the biggest which this photo shows to good advantage (taking that turn in the road to cross the bridge is goin' to be problematic!!)

A nicer shot

Here, Forces of Valor troops square off against each other.
Yeah, I know, it could use more trees and such. I'll have to dig through the scenery boxes and see what I've got.

New American Civil War Diorama / Display Base Pt 12 - Conclusion

I've been working on this display base off-and-on (mostly off) since March 22 and is primarily meant to pose and photograph my Civil War toys but I s'pose can be used for other things as well. I kind of put the push on finishing it so that it can be used for the 151st anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg which is 1-3 July.I use the term 'finished' kind of loosely because there may be some odds-and-ends to do later on. For example, the ground is rather flat and barren, except for 'grass' there's little other vegetation like bushes and trees. This was done on purpose so that there'd be more flat space to place figures on. Also, by not permanently 'planting' trees and bushes it gives me more flexibility in changing the landscaping. Anywho, here's the photos of the final steps: Enjoy! Bettina & Fritz Berg :)

A 2' (61cm) x 4' (121.9cm) piece of hardboard was shortened to fit the rear of the display

Right now it's simply held on by three screws

The same light blue paint I used on the backdrop for my train layout was used here. It is a real light blue and maybe one day I'll re-paint it a slightly darker shade to provide more contrast.

I think my inner Rembrandt went AWOL LOL. Oh well, only two shades of green were used here

New American Civil War Diorama / Display Base Pt 11 - Picky, Picky, Picky

I keep telling myself that this little base meant to display my Civil War toys on is just for my own home use and yet every time I turn around there's something I see that needs to be done - at least in my mind. This latest round however gets us much closer to completion. This time the interior of the framework was painted a dark forest green. Rough spots around the perimeter - where paint got on the scenery, were touched up with some scenery material. Then the corners of the frame were filled in with wood putty and sanded smooth. The frame was then spray painted a gloss black. Check out the progress below and Enjoy!

Paint applied to the interior of the frame. Because there were some wide gaps at some spots, the silicone caulking used to fill the gaps ran up to the scenery. this all had to be painted as well.

I didn't take any photos but those wide bands of green paint extending onto the scenery were covered with more scenery material

Yup, my consistently bad mitered angle attempts

The corner has been filled with wood putty.

I'm not real crazy about how this wood putty dries. Maybe I didn't use enough water but it just doesn't seem to harden up as much as I'd like. I'll have to look for a different gap filling material in the future.

The base masked off...
