Lido 60mm HP Troopers For T. Cohn's Superior Space Port - Pt 7 FINAL Pose 4 Yellow

T. Cohn used Lido's older WWII era G.I. sculpts for it's Space Port Troopers - perhaps as a cost saving measure (pure speculation on my part) - but this pose is an odd one. I don't recall any 'Little Green Army Man' figure from any manufacturer posed throwing a large rock down! I guess ya gotta do what ya gotta do when the dookie hits the fan and you're in it to win! This is the last of the four poses I have, but am missing several others that would have come with the Space Port, and of course, none of mine have their clear space helmets. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Posed next to one of the Alien's included with the Space Port set.

Lido 60mm HP Troopers For T. Cohn's Superior Space Port - Pt 4 Pose 2 Bronze

I got two of these Lido flame-thrower Troopers in bronze. Like all the other figures in my job lot, there was no helmet. When I get around to fleshing out the T. Cohn Space Port with all theses bits-&-pieces I've been buying, it occurred to me that maybe I could look for space helmets from other companies to use with these figures, that way they will have more of a proper space Trooper appearance. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Lido 60mm HP Troopers For T. Cohn's Superior Space Port - Pt 3 Pose 1 Silver

Here's the second color variation of this Lido Space Port Trooper recruited from their WWII G.I.'s. I do like silver spaceman and alien figures, and this one is cool. Sure would be great to find the helmets that went with these. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Lido 60mm HP Troopers For T. Cohn's Superior Space Port - Pt 1

Time to start another space figure series. For the next week or so I'm going to post figures that were made by Lido for inclusion in T. Cohn's Superior Space Port. During the past year, after acquiring the beautiful tin-litho Space Port made by T. Cohn, I've slowly been piecing together the bits-& pieces needed to complete it. All the major components were there, but only a couple of figures came with the set I bought. The aliens that came with the Space Port have already been blogged here on Toys and Stuff from May to July of this year. But, up until a couple of months ago, I never thought I'd be able to get the 60mm Troopers that originally came with it. When an incomplete set came up for sale I snatched it up!!!

The Troopers, like all the figures that came with the Space Port, were provided by Lido and  were essentially recycled WWII Army figures with clear space helmets. Being early sculpts by Lido, these things are crude! There's little to no details and by today's standards would be considered amateurish, however, many of the toys offered during those early years of plastic toy production were like that. The Space Port would of had 8 poses, but the job lot I bought only had five poses. The clear plastic helmets that went with these are a real bear to find, but I consider myself fortunate to get what I did. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

There are two poses not shown in this photo

The two missing figures:
Hands on hip

Swinging an axe?? It's hard to tell from this angle but he closely resembles the figure holding a large rock over its head. This guys is not holding a rock.

The job lot of Lido Troopers I bought a couple of months ago: 8 figures in 4 poses

Pyro (T. Cohn) Space Port

It's Sci-Fi and Fantasy Saturday and we've got a terrific toy from the Golden Age of space toys for your enjoyment - the tin-litho T. Cohn (aka Superior) Space Port. According to the book Blast Off! Rockets, Robots, Ray Guns, and Rarities from The Golden Age of Space Toys (by S. Mark Young, Steve Duin, and Mike Richardson) the Space Port, although made by T. Cohn, was actually sold by Pyro who packaged it in a set as a companion piece for their X-300 Space Cruiser. The Space Port has a spring-loaded catapult which launched the X-300 on its way to the outer reaches of space. Unfortunately the catapult mechanism is quite robust and caused the frail fins of the spaceship to break. The toy's graphics are just superb but sometime in the past someone pasted on a couple of green paper stars. They don't look bad and I'm not going to remove them. There's a spaceship on the side which looks an awful lot like a Gilmark plastic ship while he spacemen look similar to  Archer's. The overall dimensions for the toy are 10" (25.4cm) L x 7 3/4" (19.7cm) W x 7 1/4" (18.4cm) H. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina.

That's a pretty strong spring powering this catapult

The release mechanism is on the back wall

This looks like a Gilmark space ship

The Pyro set included the X-300 Space Cruiser and the space port

I've included an Archer space man in these shots because he looks cool!
