Payton-ish Teepee / Tipi - Red SP

I honestly don't know where to place this. It looks exactly like a Payton teepee - no altered graphics - yet it's just a tad bit smaller. Could it be Payton but made with re-designed tooling? A knock-off? You tell me. Be Blessed and Relish Life! Ed

Left & Middle: Payton.

Payton Teepee / Tipi Red SP

I originally took photos of this teepee back in 2023, but when looking at the file folder, discovered I had an incomplete set of photos. Fortunately, these are in a readily accessible part of The Cave and I was able to take a complete set of photos to post.  Here's Payton's 4.5" tall red SP teepee. Be Blessed and Relish Life! Payton Teepee / Tipi Blue SP

Wow, this is wild. The more I dig into my photo files, the more unposted photos I'm finding. Back in 2023 teepee's (or 'tipi's' - I guess both are correct) were a big thing on the blog and a whole bunch were posted...

...and then I got distracted. Several teepee's made by Payton ultimately didn't get posted back then so now's as good a time as any to do that. The way teepee's are made by toy manufacturer's leaves a lot of them incomplete as that top part - which represents the poles meeting - is usually a separate piece that goes missing. Payton's teepee's were made in bright, primary colors like blue, red, yellow. etc. Later, after HG Toys acquired the tooling, HG made them in more realistic subdued tan's and brown's. Repos are generally identified by having the decorations and patterns altered in some way. While looking at photos helps, it's a whole lot easier to tell when holding them up close and personal. My sample here is a bit chewed up, but still quite serviceable. Be Blessed and Relish Life! Ed

The teepee is 4.25" (10.79cm) H x 3.5" (8.89cm) W at the bottom

Payton Job Lot

I didn't think there'd be a toy post for a while, but this job lot of Payton Western toys just came in the other day. The lot had different colored teepee's than what's currently in the collection plus there are two walls to the Payton cabin in colors I don't yet have - bright blue. Now the hunt is on for the remaining pieces in those colors! Fences are always nice and this lot had enough to make a five-sided corral. Only two of the four horses were suitable for all those rider figures unless the riders are hot-glued to the horse. I'll try to knock out some photos of those teepee's this week. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

More Teepee's: HG Toys (nee Payton) Teepee - Brown SP

Here's the second teepee I have which I believe was an HG Toys recast of what was originally a Payton product. While not marked, it's the tan and rust brown colors that are usually the giveaway's. Payton's Cowboy and Indian toys were, as a general rule, more brightly colored. This darker brown example is missing the top piece which is quite common. I'm sure a top piece can be cobbled together using toothpicks but that's a project for another decade :-) Enjoy! Opa Fritz

More Teepee's: HG Toys (nee Payton) Teepee - Tan SP

I was going through my photos and found several folders with teepee's (or tipi's) in them that never got posted. Apparently I was right in the middle of my Payton Western toys series back in June when I got distracted. I hate when that happens!

I believe this to be a recast done by HG Toys using the original Payton tooling. The only Payton versions I've seen on the Internet so far have been red, and aqua while HG Toys liked to use this cream colored plastic. The Payton teepee's were designed in two pieces: the main tent and the small top piece meant to represent where all the poles met and were bundled together. This top piece is often time missing. It measures 4 1/5" (11.43cm) H (w/top piece) x 3 3/8" (8.57cm) W. Enjoy!
