Marx 54mm Astronaut Update - Mercury Capsule Complete - Red Seated Astronaut

While posting the series of Marx 54mm Astronauts I made mention of not having a complete Mercury capsule. Got one now! :-). Mine was missing the bottom cover which had the booster rockets. The seat is a separate insert from that. The photos here show the capsule with the red seated figure of the type that came with the Marx Carry-all Cape Kennedy (which I had but sold off a couple of years ago :-(   As you can see by the photo below the small loop at the top of the capsule was meant for a hook from the helicopter to engage. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Marx 54mm Astronaut #9

Here's the last of the nine 54mm poses from 1961. This guy is driving the Mercury capsule and was also available later in red. Trying to photograph him by simply laying him down and turning him this-way-or-that just wasn't working, so I grabbed a crate off of the train layout and at least let him sit! For the life of me he really looks like he's driving - got that left arm on the steering wheel of his trusty '61 Merc and the right hand on the shifter LOL Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Vroom, vroom, downshift, put the pedal to the metal and let 'er rip :-)

My capsule is incomplete - it's missing the booster assembly for the bottom but these photos will still give you an idea of what the set-up was like.

Some seller on fleaBay was listing one of these as a Gemini capsule. Really? Okay, if that's what you believe, have another hit off that wacky weed you're smokin' and enjoy your toys! Good grief! Lookee here, I'm no expert on space stuff but I got that whole, Mercury, Gemini, Apollo thing down. The Dragon capsule? -  still workin' on that one :-)

Marx 54mm Astronaut #8

Here's yet another hill hoppin' Astronaut. This guy is a tad bit higher up on the terrain than pose #1. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Marx 54mm Astronaut #7

Well, well, well, I see I screwed up my postings again. I tried to schedule the 54mm Marx Astronaut's #'s 1,2, and 3 for the 11th and #'s 4,5, and 6 for today. LOL Yeah, well that didn't go as planned! I wanted to get the posts all done within a few days vs. dragging them out over nine days because I've got other things to post - impatient, didn't wanna wait!! Oh hell, it's the photos that count. That being said, let's continue with Astronaut pose #7. This was also a Lunar concept suit but for the life of me I could not figure out where the prototype inspiration came from. Like the Republic Aviation figure, this too came in three pieces.

I'm just gonna complete the series of nine figures today - hopefully -  and then move on to other postings. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Is it just me or does he resemble Boris Karloff?
