TSR's 30mm Buck Rogers Game Pieces - Gold SP

In a recently acquired job lot of more HG Toys Buck Rogers pieces, a set of ten 30mm gold-colored spacemen in five poses was included. Having no idea who made them, I posted photos of them on several Meta groups and got my answer: they're from TSR's BUCK ROGERS - Battle for the 25th Century board game (many thanx to Mark Taverna for providing the source and link). The information came from our friend and fellow blogger Hugh Walter's own Small Scale World blog (the links are below the first two photos). Hugh has covered soooo many figures I wouldn't have known where to start, so I'm glad someone had the info at hand already. Being 30mm, they fit in nicely with a variety of figures already covered here on the blog.

I have two each of these poses for a total of ten. By looking at the photos on the Small Scale World blog, it's apparent there were plenty more...
...I'm okay with ten figures!

HG Toys No. 892 BUCK ROGERS in The 25th Century Galactic Play Set - Pt 18 40mm Character Figures - Pose 8 Draco (Joseph Wiseman)

Draco, or King Draco (more properly: Draconius XII) is the ruler of the Draconian Empire in the series, and was played by Joseph Wiseman. It's safe to say he was one of the heavies - yet another on-screen 'Draco' who's a bad guy (good Lord, don't name your kid Draco unless you want him to get a bad rap)!

Interestingly, this character only appeared briefly in the theatrical release but was written out of the TV series. Also, the Draconian Marauder spaceships (also referred to as Hatchet fighters) must have made a lasting impression as they were made by numerous companies both as stand-alone toys or as plastic model kits.

HG Toys No. 892 BUCK ROGERS in The 25th Century Galactic Play Set - Pt 17 40mm Character Figures - Pose 7 Dr. Huer (Tim O'Conner)

The role of Dr. Huer was played by Tim O'Conner, a well known character actor of the time. Along with Wilma Deering, Dr. Huer was a member of the Defense Directorate and was seen in 21 episodes of the series.

HG Toys No. 892 BUCK ROGERS in The 25th Century Galactic Play Set - Pt 16 40mm Character Figures - Pose 6 Kane (Michael Ansara)

In the original Buck Rogers story line from the 1930's Kane was Killer Kane and the main antagonist of the series. In the 1979-81 TV series he played second fiddle and was only seen in three episodes in the first season, It's a shame because his character was portrayed by Michael Ansara, a powerhouse actor of that period.

HG Toys No. 892 BUCK ROGERS in The 25th Century Galactic Play Set - Pt 12 40mm Character Figures - Pose 2 Tigerman (Duke Butler)

Per Buck Rogers Wiki:

"Tigerman is a character in Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. He was played by Duke Butler and H.B. Haggerty. He is a reference to the Tiger Men from Mars in earlier Buck Rogers media.

Tigerman was the main bodyguard for Princess Ardala when Buck Rogers returned to Earth in 2491. He was described by Kane as also being a eunuch."

'Nuff said.
