A few days ago we featured the red version of this XC-120 and today we bring you a gray version. This time I've posed a small Pyro Jeep along with it. The Jeep is larger than the original vehicles that came with the toy and needs a little finessing to get into the cargo pod but it still looks good. Both planes have some condition issues like broken propeller blades and this one is missing a rear pod door but they still display well. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

Swadar Fairchild XC-120 Airplane 1950s - Red HP
Today we have an obscure toy from an obscure company based on an equally obscure plane, the Fairchild XC-120 Pack Plane. Using a modified C-119 Flying Boxcar only one of these was ever built. It first flight was in August 1950 and it did see fairly extensive air show coverage which is why it perhaps was eventually made into a toy having captured the imagination of the manufacturer. The toy manufacturer, Swadar, is a complete and total unknown to me. While there are no manufacturer markings on the toy I've seen these offered on eBay multiple times.
The plane comes with a very small one piece Jeep and tank which fit into the cargo bay which features opening bay doors in the front and back. The plane measures 8 1/4" (20.95cm) L x 10 1/4" (26.03cm) wingspan x 2 1/2" (6.35cm) H. The Jeep measures 1 3/8" (3.49cm) L x 3/4" (1.90cm) W and the tank measures 1 1/2" (3.81cm) L x 7/8" (2.22cm) W. Today's post features a red plane but they came in silver and gray as well and possibly other colors.
Reader Paul Vreede sent a link to this video of the XC-120 which is fascinating. A novel concept for an aircraft which never made it to production. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina
