Space Helmets: Did you have a helmet as a kid?

I'm gonna break from my usual modus operandi and use mostly photos culled from the Internet for this post. Over the years I've gathered a few pics of space helmets and thought this would make an interesting subject for an entry here on the blog. As a kid I can remember having cowboy hats (a few), an American Civil War Union Kepi, and a plastic Army man helmet (probably made by Marx), but I don't recall any space or pilot type helmets. As an adult I've got a couple of cowboy hats, a couple of Union Kepi's, and my Mexican Dragoon's helmet prop from John Wayne's 'The Alamo' movie. But when it comes to space and sci-fi, my Hamilton's Invaders helmet is the only one in the collection. Let's have some fun and take a quick look at some of the headgear worn by budding astronauts, space farers, and sci-fi heroes back in the day.

Among the cheapest of helmets ever offered. A kid could probably make his own using cardboard and crayons

Space Pilot

hahahaha - seriously?

Star Trek

Star Trek didn't use helmets all that much, but I can guarantee Spock never used one like this!!

Lido Spacemen: 90mm Futureman No. 2 - Silver HP

These shots of Lido's 90mm Futureman series of spacemen were done last year and there were a total of five photos taken: two were posted last year, one yesterday, one today, and one slated for tomorrow. I don't consider these as part of my 'Toyscapes' series, but rather something along the lines of figure portraits. Recently I took another batch of photos using different figures and those will get posted in the coming days (that is, if I don't get distracted again!). Be Blessed and Relish Life!

Lido Spacemen: 90mm Futureman No. 1 - Bronze HP

Good Grief! Last year, I done up a few shots of the Lido 90mm Futureman (Captain Video figures) posed against backgrounds looking as if they were exploring a spaceship. I posted two, then stopped!! I guess it's time to post the remaining photos! Be Blessed and Relish Life! Ed

Lido 50mm Humanoid No. 4 - Bronze HP

Holy Cow! We are finally at the end of the Lido Captain Video figure's series'! This is the last of the 50mm Satellite Men of which there were eight aliens and four Humanoids. Our next post will be a short recap as well as some of the interesting facts I've learned along the way. After which there will be some residual Lido posts. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

All four 50mm Humanoids

(L) 50mm (R) 35mm
The larger version has a broken-off thingamajig. I have no clue what the designers intended for that thing to be. Weapon? Tool? Your guess is as good as mine.

Lido 50mm Humanoid No. 3 - Silver HP

After some delays I can now finish off the Lido Humanoid series as well as put a cap on the Lido Space Port / Satellite Men series. In addition, I'll have a couple of nice additions to Lido's space toys and one very special contribution! For now though - Enjoy! Opa Fritz

(L) 50mm (R) 35mm
Yet another example proving that the smaller figures weren't simply pantographed down from the larger figures (or visa versa). While I'm 99% certain the two sizes of figures were separate sculpts, I'm now of the opinion that they were done by different individuals! Maybe. Maybe not. That's total conjecture on my part, but it just doesn't look like one person sculpting both series - too many differences.

Lido 50mm Humanoid No. 2 - Silver HP

I've mentioned that the last figure of Lido's 50mm Alien series was on its way in the mail. After checking its status, it should be delivered sometime today and I can then take some photos of it - Yay!

In addition, I am now expecting the last two 50mm Humanoid poses in the mail. After doubting whether all four Humanoid's were produced in 50mm the last two poses showed up on fleaBay and I was able to buy them. That would actually complete all of Lido's Satellite Men space figure offerings in both 35mm and 50mm. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Here's our figure posed next to a Lido race car that I've re-purposed as a futuristic car. Nice match.
