Juguetes Dinamicos de Mexico, S.A. #2859 Marx Mexico Spaceship Set - Pt 2 F-102 Delta Dagger

At first, the inclusion of the '50s era F-102 Delta Dagger in this set might seem a bit odd, but if you play the '50s Sc-Fi game of jets scrambling to intercept UFO's this could fit right. What doesn't fit in are those gaudy colors! oh brother! But hey, it's a nice toy nonetheless. The minimal markings are done via peel-&-stick appliques which, after so many years, are starting to come loose on my samples. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

Here's an example of some of the problems I had photographing these things. I had read where, if you put a brightly colored object on a backdrop of contrasting colors the colors will 'pop'. Wellll, yeah, sort of. The closest complimentary colored paper I could find to pink ( alighter tint of red) was green. You can see by the unedited photo below, that yes, the colors do 'pop' but...
I don't like it

Juguetes Dinamicos de Mexico, S.A. #2859 Marx Mexico Spaceship Set - Pt 1

I've been wanting to feature this set for some time but it always got placed on the back burner, and now I think I know why. Photographing these neon colored gems turned out to be a real bear. I'll detail my struggles in another post but for now let's cover the contents. The set is made by Juguetes Dinamicos de Mexico, S.A. The company is no stranger to the blog as we featured their Untouchables sets a couple of years ago. The bagged set with cardboard insert artwork contains one Century Series jet fighter and four spaceships in neon colored soft plastic.

All of these were produced by Marx in slightly less gaudy colors back in the '50s and '60s in hard plastic. I've noticed some eBay sellers refering to these as Marx 'prototypes': THEY ARE NOT MARX PROTOTYPES. These were made by the Marx subsidiaries in Mexico who still retain much of the tooling. When Marx made prototypes they were done in the same hard plastic that the production toys would have been made out of and certainly not in these garish colors. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

That 'splotch' on the artwork by the boy's head was a dollop of glue meant to hold one of the toys in place for display

Marx (?) Convair F-102 Delta Dagger - Red SP

Part of the Century Series of aircraft, the Convair Delta Dagger first entered service in 1956 in a bomber intercept role. It the USAF's first operational supersonic interceptor and delta-wing fighter.

I'm not entirely sure who made this particular toy but believe it was one of the soft plastic airplanes which Marx included in their airport/jetport playsets. There are no maker's markings on it but I've seen photos of the playsets and it looks like the one. Here's the goofy part: I have a Marx Jetport playset but it's buried out in The Cave!!! I need to break it out and see what's inside! The plane measures 5 3/8" (13.65cm) L x 3 1/8" (7.93cm) wingspan x 1 5/8" (4.12cm) H. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina
