Renwal #123 School Bus - Yellow HP Customized

I actually really like old cars and trucks which have been 'customized' by previous owners. Back in the day there were no fancy spot-on perfect diecast replicas and nearly everything you bought was either one solid color or perhaps there was some sloppy (by today's standards) overlay of silver as we've seen on many of the vehicles shown here on the blog. Occasionally they would be molded in several colors, like the Gilmark Build-A-Cars featured recently but by-and-large what ya got was a solid colored body with black, silver, or white wheels. Today's Renwal bus from the '50s is all yellow with white wheels with details added later in red. It measures 4.5" (10.16cm) L. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

Renwal City Bus Co No.124 Cream HP

I've been feelin' miserable the last few days and decided to take a day off of work. I don't want to lay in bed because that just makes me feel more crappy, sooo a few minutes on the 'puter will help ease the misery a little.

I always like to see vintage toys, especially ones that remind me of my youth. In this case it's because this bus looks like the kind that ran on the street at the end of my block back in Milwaukee. My earliest memories are of electrified buses on that route, the poles sticking up from the roof of the buses, and the crackling of the electricity as they passed along the wires. I believe it was in the late '50s when the electric buses were replaced by the stinky ol' diesel ones - like the kind being posted today LOL A red HP version was posted earlier this year on May 9th. Renwal City Bus Co No. 124 Red HP

I'm still working on some more Civil War figures having MPC, T. Cohn, Marx and others waiting in the wings for me to photograph but until that happens I thought we'd visit some vintage plastic today and feature this neat item from Renwal, the No. 124 City Bus Co.bus which measures about 4 1/2" (11.4cm) L. When new, the lettering at the top of the bus would have had a coating of silver paint which has now worn off.  Also, my example has a mold defect just under the front windshield but otherwise it's not too bad. These would have come in a variety of brightly colored plastics. Enjoy!
