Gay Toys (or Processed Plastic?) SR-71 - Red SP

Back on March 10 I posted a blue SP SR-71 from Gay Toys (now called American Plastic Toys, Inc.). Shortly afterwards I latched on to this red SR-71 the seller attributed to Processed Plastics. The difference between the two (other than some intact appliques on the red plane) is the addition of two figures in the cockpit of the red plane. The problem with it being maybe Processed Plastics is that normally - from what I've seen - Processed Plastics was really good at marking their toys with the company name and there's no name anywhere to be found on the red version. Of course that doesn't rule out the possibility of it being processed Plastic toy but I sure would like to know once and for all! Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Berttina

Gay Toys Inc. SR-71 - Blue SP

Serving from 1964 to 1998, the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird was a long range Mach 3+ reconnaissance aircraft operated by the U.S. Air Force. Lockheed's legendary designer Clarence "Kelly" Johnson was responsible for many of the planes unique features. Although hotly pursued by adversary missiles during the Cold War, none were shot down, although 12 were lost in accidents. Having seen a fly-by of one these back in 1997 during the Air Force's 50th Anniversary Air Show at Nellis AFB, I can tell ya how impressive they are in person.

This is the first time we've posted an SR-71 here on the blog and the first toy by a company called 'Gay Toys, Inc.' of which I know very little. My library of collector's books isn't all that big and wasn't much help and the Internet gave mixed results. Typing in a search for 'Gay Toys' gets umm, unusual results to say the least! I do know that it was founded in 1962 and located in Walled Lake, Michigan and that the company is now called 'American Plastic Toys, Inc.'. Toys from this company appear quite regularly on fleaBay This toy is fairly big at 11 3/4" (29.84cm) L x 6" (15.24cm) wingspan x 2 1/4" (5.71cm) H and I believe would have had peel-&-stick appliques' originally
