Notes/Flaws: This is quite possibly the best Smiths bootleg yet made. This CD features an exceptional quality soundboard recording of The Smiths at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles on August 26, 1986. (The concert is nearly complete - only the concluding "Bigmouth Strikes Again" is absent.) The song selection is excellent, opening with "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want" and drifting through such highlights as "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out," "Stretch Out And Wait," and "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore". Morrissey makes numerous comments between the songs and Johnny Marr is in fine form. The concert takes a dramatic turn towards the end, as Morrissey interrupts the tender second verse of "I Know It's Over" with a shout of "Jesus Christ! Don't be so stupid! Leave him alone, you stupid idiot, leave him!" directed at the "neanderthal" security guards who were making the fans miserable. All this puts a dramatic, dark overtone on an incredible concert. The packaging, by the wonderful Italian company Big Music, meets their usual high standards, with numerous excellent photos of the band, a picture disc, and a flawless track listing. An all-around exceptional product and a far better concert momento of the Queen Is Dead tour than the officially released Rank. (TM)

Led Zeppelin: MSG 1975 (EX- Aud 2 Sources) Download Friendly) FLAC

trampled underfoot 2-7-75 f
Commentary on "Trampled Underfoot"
Led Zeppelin
February 7, 1975
Madison Square Garden
New York, NY
The show is 1975.02.07 MSG. I was just listening to that show today (thanks DCBullet). It sounds like Cheech and Chong were taping the show. Throughout their entire recording the stoners are constantly talking about sparking a doobie. During Sick Again they start talking about sparking it up. At the beginning of OTHAFA: "Got a roach clip, man?" "Huh?" "Got a roach clip?" "Yeah." [cough] [cough] "Hey you're on fire man." etc. Throughout the show one asks the other repeatedly for matches.
After In My Time of Dying someone asks when the laser show will be. One stoner notes that it comes later on. As The Song Remains the Same begins the stoners are pleased. Then, just after Plant start singing, one says "This's much better, man." I guess they thought that straight vocals of the live performance improved the song over the high speed on the album. Later in The Rain Song it sounds like ushers come by to kick someone out of a nearby seat. At the end of Kashmir: "That was a wailer, boy."
At the beginning of No Quarter, a couple of folks arrive late and ushers want to check tickets to find where they should sit. The stoners are not pleased that someone is blocking their view. They also wonder who's engaging in all these journeys Plant keeps mentioning. Late in the instrumental portion of the song, one stoner asks the other to hold something, then asks where the matches are. A few moments later Plant returns and sings "Walking side by side with death" [cough] [cough] [cough] [cough] [cough] [cough] "The devil mocks their every step" [cough] [cough] [cough] [cough] [cough] etc. When Page screaches the theramin at the "dogs of doom" lyric, the stoners chime in with their own calls of "woooooooo-hoooo!" then one says "they're definitely gonna do Whole Lotta Love, aren't they?"
Trampled Underfoot meets with the approval of the stoners, but they loudly request Heartbreaker. Instead they hear Plant's introduction of Bonham. The stoners approve and go nuts. Yet, they again need more matches, and get ready for the other tape expecting to make the flip during the drum solo (I think it's around 7 minutes in). Others around the stoners realise that they are good source of matches. One stoners notes that he has to head off to the bathroom "Hey, I gotta take a piss. I'll be right back." The other stoner is irritated: "Yeah, announce it!" Then the recording jumps back a few minutes and plays the early part of the solo so the bathroom exchange can be heard again. Bonham receives a long ovation. One stoner pronounces of Bonham "The best, the best."
Lots of "Woohoo" calls meet the beginning of Dazed and Confused. Every wail on the wahwah pedal yields more calls of approval. A woman nearby asks the stoners "Did they play this one last time?" A stoner replies "What? Are you kidding man?" They also discuss how much they think their tickets would be worth. Then their source abrupty cuts off just before three and a half minutes into Dazed and Confused. I guess something went wrong with the tape. The bootleg then switches to the crappy recorded-a-bit-too-fast-so-plays-too-slow vinyl source.
I really missed the stoners. They became my friends. I longed to hear their thoughts on Stairway to Heaven, what they would have thought of only hearing a minute of Whole Lotta Love, their musings on Black Dog, and definitely what they thought of finally hearing Heartbreaker. Where oh where is the rest of their tape?

I believe this is called Arties source-- this is not the same source from the bootleg
LPs- as I recall these sources were not located.
Overall excellent minus recording-- if the tapers would have kept quiet this would be very enjoyable. This is the typical stupid taping group that "destroyed the New York concerts" as Luis Rey said. Lots of catcalling, asking for Dazed before every song, then being too stoned to tape the damn thing completely. The only imperfection I see is a slight bit of Diginoise at 25 seconds. This appears to not be from my tape. The levels on this tape on the conversion from analog-digital are modest-Not as high as I would have liked.

Big thanks to Redwhite for this, a nice crystal clear pFm source of the boys in the start of "the year punk broke". Still able to play "SLTS" with enthusiasm, and a host of other favorites from Nevermind and Bleach.
The source was typical Pre-FM; thin, light and bright. So it got beefed quite a bit and maximized. Sounds big, raucous, the way I think they should sound.
Note: Just a reminder, I do these remasters for myself and I share because there's a bunch of good people around here who are interested in hearing them, plus it's a nice thing to do. Nothing more to it than that. If you don't like it, don't download it. Simple.

Complete pre-FM soundboard recording.

http://www.livenirvana.com/audiophile/index.html.

THE AUDIOPHILE COMPLETISTS' GUIDE TO NIRVANA BOOTLEGS CDs: 02/01/92
There are two sets of commercial releases of this show: complete pre-FM soundboard sources and differently mixed, incomplete, post-FM soundboard recordings.
'Melbourne 1992' is a complete pre-FM soundboard recording. This disc is plagued with pressing/digital errors. The bootleg 'In A Land Far Far Away', also sourced from the complete pre-FM recording, is free of these errors. However, both discs should be avoided as they are sourced from the trading circle version. Audiophiles
are thus recommended to pick up the trading circle version, rather than bootleg versions of this complete pre-FM source.
The post-FM commercial releases, however, are valuable to the audiophile because they are differently mixed to the pre-FM version and the best sounding versions are
only available on bootleg releases. The best sounding commercial release of the post-FM source is 'Mindblower' (although it runs slow, plus 2nd pressings of this bootleg have one second gaps between some of the songs), but the show can also be found on other bootlegs in lower quality.
In order of best quality first after Mindblower, these bootlegs are: 'Territorial Possession' (cloned from the 1st pressing of 'Mindblower'), 'Put The Money Down' (runs at correct speed) and 'Saturday Night Sonic Attack' (correct speed, but thin sounding and distorted). All commercial releases of this source are incomplete. More complete post-FM versions (with additional radio banter) are available in trading circles, but bootleg releases sound better.
A special thanks to Tim Bucknall's extensive research into sources of this show.

Bob Marley and the Wailers: Paris 1980 (Soundboard*) FLAC

a-front
Le Bourget, Paris, France
July 3, 1980
This show is a mix of two sources, one being from a second generation tape from the master of an Audience source.
The second source is a perfect Soundboard, copied straight from the master to CDR.
The master CDR that I recieved was cut into two tracks with about 8 songs on each track.
The second set was the first track, and the first part of the set was the second track.
I have remixed the audience to add bass that had been left of the original copy.
I then slowed the Audience version down to the same speed as the Soundboard.
The set list below shows how things mixed down.

Boston: Acetate Demos 1975-1976 FLAC

Mission Aborted front
"Mission Aborted"
Issued 1996

Setlist:
01 Love (Don't Be Afraid)
02 Help Me to Forget Her Name (Shattered Images)
03 San Fransisco Day (Hitch a Ride)
04 Shakin' (Mother's Milk Shake) (Smokin')
05 She's a Looker/Talkin' to the Wall
06 Rock n' Roll Band
07 Life Isn't Easy (Something About You)
08 More Than a Feeling
09 Don't Be Afraid of Love
10 Peace of Mind
11 San Fransisco Day (Hitch a Ride)

Lineage: I found this on Zomb as posted by Gary. No lineage was given. Sounds like it came off an LP at some point.

Recording notes: Since I posted "We Found It In the Trashcan, Honest!", I wanted to pass this one along here too. The first 5 songs are different sessions than the last 6, which are the same 6 songs found on the "Trashcan" bootleg. You be the judge as to which sounds better!
The setlist I found for "Mission Aborted" separated "She's a Looker" and "Talkin' to the Wall" into two tracks, but they are actually one track (It's a jam though!). The setlist also claims "San Francisco Day" is the last track, but the song was nowhere to be found. I have added the very same "San Francisco Day" from my "Trashcan" boot to complete the setlist. I've also read that the song "Foreplay" can be found on some other bootlegs included with the rest of the first 5 songs. The original `Mission Aborted` bootleg includes a 2nd disk sometimes referred to as an unreleased Boston album, but it is actually Barry Goudreau's solo album from 1980.

Brent's Bootlegs
(Audio - 10)
This is probably THE BEST sounding Rush boot available right now. But wait! That is not all that makes up a great bootleg. There is more to a bootleg than sound quality. First off some of the tracks are grouped together as one track when they really shouldn't be. Another problem is that there is approximately 5 seconds of silence right in the middle of the drum solo. The creator of this bootleg told me that those two problems are there, because he did not want to fix them in interest of sound quality. The other problem with this show is Geddy's voice. It sounds like he is slightly hoarse and is straining to sing. Although I've spent the better part of this paragraph complaining about this bootleg, let me assure you that this is one of the greatest Rush bootlegs ever released. I believe that every Rush bootleg collector should add this one to his/her collection. (1999-04-01)

Genesis: Title In A House Of Dreams 1977 (Ex Soundboard) FLAC

Genesis Movement comments: If a choice needs to be made amongst the early '77 England gigs, this gets my vote - there is some audience presence off the soundboard. Your Own Special Way and All In A Mouse's Night are welcome rarities, but both didn't read well live at all - Inside and Out was a nice addition to the later sets on this tour. Carpet Crawlers is a mess at the start. Afterwards Phil says sarcastically, "I think we enjoyed that one too." In the end, I'll go with an A rating overall here because it beats the Rainbow SB, but, Digital brothers' Zurich is still the gold standard from this tour - perhaps a matrix of the audience and the board of this gig might yield some cool results? Peace! [jrromman]

Pat Martino: Boston 1977 (Remastered VG+ Aud) FLAC

by request(finally) - ok Musgrave now quit pestering me ;)

front
Pat Martino- guitar
Delmar Brown- keyboards
Bucky Barrett (?) -bass
Kenwood Dennard- drums
Berklee Performance Center
Boston, Mass. U.S.A.
March 25, 1977
source: 1st generation audience tape
Performance quality: A
Recording quality: B/B+
lineage: unknown, probably mismatched microphones > JVC KD-2? stereo cassette deck
(dolby off I think, it was over 30 years ago..) > master cassettes (Maxell
UD, normal bias) > 7" reel copy, Maxell UD at 3 3/4 ips > soundforge 4.5 >
FLAC
runtime: 76:54
setlist: ???
this is a full set from one of just a handful of 1977 Pat Martino Group shows to include Kenwood Dennard on drums and is from I think one of Martino's most vibrant periods of music. This tour was much too short.
I want to hear any other shows with this group that are at least decent quality. I'm not a real big fan of Pat Martino music but I would be if I heard him play more of this kind of music. Pat really shows he is a brilliant guitarist with imaginative proficient chops and a style all his own. This doesn't sound like anybody else.
This is from the peak of his fusey/jazz period.
It's a rarity.
There are two flip cuts, spliced together in the middle of songs, but only a few seconds missing. My copy was recorded with a nearly brand new (at the time) Teac reel deck, state of the art quality for the time, probably from the Sony or JVC deck it was recorded on. I think this is the whole show, and not only torrented for the 1st time here, this torrent has had the full ICPVR (individual clap peak volume reduction) treatment between songs and there is very little clapping during the music (appreciative and polite audience). If you are among the one or two who recieved this in a tape trade many years ago, or CD trade more recently, you haven't heard it sounding this good before. I've remastered the reel copy and it sounds pretty decent now.

This package is a combination of two FM Broadcasts. The setlist for the 1987 show lists "The Adultress" after "Message of Love". Obviously, it didn't get recorded.
I had to put the first four tracks of the 1987 show on Disc One to conserve space.
Anyway, these are two splendid sounding, rocking shows. The 1987 show sounds better, but they both jam.
This is a must have for all fans of The Pretenders!
Enjoy all.

The source of this remaster were the same 24 bit transfer master files that were used for GASP 008, carefully restored with CEDAR Cambridge V4 (NR5 noise reduction, phase correction, de-buzz, auto-balance) and Adobe Audition 1.5 (Single click removal tool). Mixed with Magix Sequoia 9.22, mastered with Adobe Audition 1.5 by
using several plug-ins (no Waves).

From the liner notes by David Dunnington:
"On all tours since Foxtrot, large portions of the live set have been well documented by official releases and radio broadcasts. With the single exception of this 1982 "Encore" tour, inexplicably and universally ignored by the record label and by US and European broadcasting companies alike. In the absence of a full professional recording, a good clear engineer's tape from the soundboard is the
best that can be managed: what makes this bootleg from the show in Saratoga Springs, NY so important is its status as the unique soundboard recording (accessible to collectors) from the Encore tour.
A careful fresh transfer of the best known tape of this show was recently completed by TM Productions on behalf of the GASP project. Unfortunately the recording is of indeterminate generation and not in great shape, being saturated with volume distortion in greater or lesser degrees throughout. Some portions, notably the first few songs, suffer to the point of being unsalvageable. Here is presented a one disc compilation of highlights comprising those sections of the show amenable to quality restoration."

Auszug3

exc. audience recording by hg

The first show of Carl's tour - the next day they had to play in Norway about 1000 miles away...
Taped in a tiny club (capacity about 150 people - but there were more than 200, I swear) and it was by far the hottest day of the year then - tropical temperatures, sweaty... I was really surprised that the recording turned out that good - really excellent.

OU Notes: I distinctly remember making this recording, moving the antennae around trying to get the needle on my Marantz receiver to settle in the middle. I used those good ol' green TDK SA-C90's, which soon thereafter become brown and then who knows what.
Anyway, contrary to the other known circulating version (May 15, 1979), the actual date of this show is May 19, 1979. I make claim to this not only because my handwriting on the tape says so, but so does Charlie. "It's Saturday in the Twin Cities.........". May 15th was a Tuesday.
Furthermore, IMHO, this transfer is far superior, much cleaner and punchier, and has much less hiss. I'm surprised with all the stations this was broadcast on, there aren't hundreds of versions.
Finally this version has the opening tune, Passing Lane.

THE BEATLES
AT BUDOKAN JUNE 30, 1966
Laserdisc Transfer

Lineage: Laserdisc > digital sound card > .aiff > .wav > data CD > CD Wave > TLH > FLAC > you

In 2003, a collector in Texas, with whom I had traded by mail for several years (since before CD-Rs), made me a digital transfer of the audio portion of the Japanese laserdisc of The Beatles At Budokan. He used a Mac for recording, and this is an unaltered transfer from the LD. It's the best sound source for this concert that you'll ever hear! I opened the .wav file in CD Wave to split tracks on sector boundaries, and converted it to FLAC. This show has still never been released anywhere but in Japan, on laserdisc, and even that release was recalled. There has been no DVD release so far, and we don't expect to see one. Enjoy!

A Saucerful Of Secrets (26:31)
Atom Heart Mother (33:29)
Atom Heart Mother (reprise) (2:52)

Total running time approx 2 hours 31 minutes

NOTES FROM PETE:
The origins of this copy of the recording are as follows:
I went to University in Sheffield in the UK in October 1981. Sometime in my first year there (not sure if it was 81 or 82) I noticed an advert on a noticeboard in the University's Student Union building by a guy offering rare tapes of Pink Floyd and a number of other bands. I bought this recording on a TDK AD C60 and C120 Cassette (see the photos) from the guy who turned out to be a post-graduate. From my recollection (and it is 27 years ago!) the tapes I got were from his first gen copy from the masters. They are definitely not from vinyl (you can just tell!!!) and it predates the CD or CDR bootleg era. Ironically I think the cassettes have survived well because I only played them a few times as I was more into Stones and Clapton at the time. I guess it could be as little as four or five times prior to me finally capturing them as digital files.I was prompted to transfer it to digital format by two things:

1) I downloaded a couple of the bootlegs from the same date via the internet and I thought, "This is not half as good quality as I remember my tapes being"
2) A friend was clearing out his loft (attic) and offered me a little used NAD tapedeck, so now I had no excuse not to investigate my hunch that I had a better copy of this recording

The finished item is superb. I have really enjoyed getting back into this whole 68-72 Floyd era. I think the desire to get the best version of Sheffield 1970 out to the fan-base has made me go back and take an even greater interest in the legitimate and (ever expanding) bootleg stuff from this era.

A final, but very important note. A big "thank you" to John Johnstone (a colleague from work) who suggested I offered up the raw WAVs of the tapes to the Harvested Team. What an excellent piece of advice!

NOTES FROM MOB:
Pete's tapes were in really good condition, despite their age. The original recording was done with mono equipment, and the music was well centered between the 2 channels of the tapes (generally, old tapes tend to have fluctuations between channels, even if the original recording is mono, but it was not the case here). The hiss was very stable throughout the tapes, with almost no sign of warble.

The main problem with the recording was the speed. The tapes ran too fast, and the speed was not constant throughout the show (this is a well known problem of old analog tape recorders, very dependent on the battery levels fluctuations during a concert). Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast was almost at correct speed, but the speed of the following tracks increased progressively during the songs. The real difficulties began with A Saucerful Of Secrets, because the batteries were probably unloading faster. The speed was different depending on the part of the song, so I had to apply speed correction on a case by case basis. Atom Heart Mother was even worse, the very end really too fast.

After dealing with the speed issues, I carefully applied slight EQ to enhance some particular frequencies that were buried in the original recording (probably due to the original recorder and mics characteristics). An important note is that I didn't try to dehiss the recording. As a result, this remaster still has a good amount of hiss. After all, this is a 2nd gen and you cannot have a significant reduction of hiss without degrading the music clarity. Moreover, I wanted to keep the sound as natural as possible, because the best sounding version of that concert until now was the highly processed "Disgusting Hardly Music", remastered from Pete's tapes too, but with a lot of NR applied. I wanted this new remaster to be a nice alternative to DHM: people who can't stand hiss and don't mind about digital NR artefacts can still enjoy DHM, while people who prefer unprocessed recordings should definitely adopt "Rise & Shine" (of course it's not striclty "unprocessed" because I corrected the speed, applied some EQ and carefully cleaned the drop-outs and tape flaws, but anyway this still sounds "natural", unlike the other versions I heard).

As usual with all my remasters, I also manually cleaned every tape flaw that I could detect (cuts, small drop-outs, pops, crackles ...).

Here are the comparisons we did with the other RoIOs from that concert:
- "Allen's Psychedelic Breakfast" (from Circus Sun APSB 1270 A/B LP): full of vinyl clicks and pops
- "A Psychedelic Night" (Triangle Records PYCD 038 & 039): this silver bootleg CD is muffled and denoised to death
- "Alan's Psychedelic Christmas": 3rd or 4th gen from VHS, too dehissed
- "Pink's Psychedelic Last Night" (Highland HL176): again, very processed (NR)
- "Alan's Psychedelic Master Tape" (Ayanami-227): certainly not from mastertape (Ayanami often claims to have the masters while it's wrong) and over-processed
- "1st Gen": this RoIO is the only other "unprocessed" version apparently circulating, but it sounds more distant than Pete's 2nd gen; I guess the title "1st gen" is not correct, it's more probably 2nd or 3rd gen.
- "Disgusting Hardly Music" (FOS-CDR-001 ): music is very clear but NR artifacts are obvious

To summarize, we think that this new release "Rise & Shine" has the following benefits:
- it's the only Sheffield RoIO with "natural" sound (apart from the so-called "1st gen" which is sounding much more distant)
- it's the only Sheffield RoIO with correct speed for all the tracks
- it's the only Sheffield RoIO with the drop-outs and tape flaws corrected (in particular, you can check the very beginning of Careful's scream: the abrupt cut in the master recording is magically fixed ;-) )

Thanks to Pete for approaching us with this project and supplying us with the great source material. And, of course, thanks to MOB, the James Guthrie of bootlegs!
Enjoy and share freely!

The Beetles: 20 X 4 (Remastered Edition) FLAC

front
20 X 4 (Remastered Edition)
Remastered 2005 at Remasters Workshop
Lineage: Jeff's LP > 32-bit .wav > UUNet > Audition 1.5 > 16-bit .wav > TLH > FLAC > you
This is a restoration of the famous Beatles bootleg "20 x 4" originally issued 1977 on Ruthless Rhymes JPGR 1177. (This album is also listed in "Eight Arms To Hold You" as being on Idle Mind 1176.) It was reissued in 1979 and 1981 on JPGR REMIME OBS-204 with the last track on Side 2 omitted, in lesser sound quality. Most people who own this bootleg have one of the reissues. The original pressing is very, very scarce. Many thanks to Jeff for the original 32-bit .wav files from which this restoration was made.
The pressing was in such sad shape, I think this project has taken the longest of any I've done in the past, to get it right. Over four million scratches were removed. The sound of the turntable and the vinyl have been removed. Hum and odd frequencies have been filtered out. The recordings have been restored to true mono and pitch corrected to A=440 Hz. Of special note is "Peace Of Mind", which may or may not be The Beatles, that has had all of its pitch variations ironed out flat so that it does not speed up at any point, as the original did. This is as close to how the original tapes sounded as it is possible to get without having the tapes.
There is a song on this album that was titled "Penny O'Dell" by the bootleggers, which was said to be from Paul McCartney's 1974 Nashville recording sessions. This is not the case. Track 7 is a monitor mix, recorded on a portable cassette deck, by a person sitting in the control room at The Soundshop in Nashville. During a lull in the playback, he quite clearly says "Kenny O'Dell." That's whose session it was. Who knows how it ended up on a Beatles bootleg? This song is called "Homecoming Queen", written by Kenny O'Dell and Larry Henley (of The Newbeats) and it was issued in 1972 on the B-side of the single "Lizzie And The Rain Man" on Kapp K-2178.

Note that there are four tracks here from the as-yet-unreleased "No. 3 Abbey Road NW8" - which would not show up for another two years.
The tracks are from a data CD backup I made in 2005. There have been no CD extraction stages in this process.
Track Listing:

Side One
01 Oh! Darling - outtake with alternate vocal tracks, from Abbey Road sessions. 7-18-69 Take 21
02 Peace Of Mind - dunno who this is. You decide!
03 Blackbird - Paul & Donovan, from Mary Hopkin session for "Post Card", Trident Studios, London, 11-68
04 Things We Said Today - from BBC "Top Gear", recorded 7-14-64 and aired 7-16-64
05 Help! - this sounds like a monitor mix from 4-13-65 Take 9. It might be a fake. It's never turned up on another bootleg.
06 Every Little Thing - a monitor mix from 9-24-64 Take 4. Also never turned up elsewhere.
07 Kenny O'Dell - Homecoming Queen (monitor mix) - from The Soundshop, Nashville, 1972
Side Two

Three Dog Night (incarnation VII - all three vocalists) : Houston 1985 (Soundboard) FLAC

this was the last line up of Three Dog Night with all three vocalists
cs01a
Rockefeller's
Houston, TX
Nov. 17, 1985
Soundboard recording

In the late 60s and early 70s, very few artists enjoyed the popularity of Three Dog Night. The group charted twenty-one Top 40 hits in a little over a half decade.
In this particular show, twenty of the group's twenty-one Top 40 singles were played (only "Out In The Country"--which reached #15 on the charts--wasn't played).
For a group that enjoyed such immense popularity, it's dumbfounding that there aren't more Three Dog Night shows floating around, but let's at least be thankful for this one, as it's a beauty...and a must for anyone who likes Three Dog Night!

Setlist: (Billboard Top 40 positions noted parenthetically)
101. One Man Band (#19)
102. The Family Of Man (#12)
103. Black And White (#1)
104. Sure As I'm Sittin' Here (#16)
105. An Old Fashioned Love Song (#4)
106. Brand New Day
107. Til The World Ends (#32)
108. Play Something Sweet (Brickyard Blues) (#33)
109. Country song teases
110. Never Been To Spain (#5)
111. Liar (#7)
112. It Ain't Easy

201. Shambala (#3)
202. Pieces Of April (#19)
203. One (#1)
204. Let Me Serenade You (#17)
205. Easy To Be Hard (#4)
206. Try A Little Tenderness (#29)
207. The Show Must Go On (#4)
208. Mama Told Me (Not To Come) (#1)
209. Joy To The World (#1)
210. Eli's Coming (#10)
211. Celebrate (#15)

Lineage:
SBD > 1st gen cassette > CDR > EAC > WAV > Editing (below) > FLAC Frontend > FLAC
Editing notes:
Track 101: Reduced volume -4dB (0:13-0:28 mark--reduced announcer's band intro)
Track 102: Increased volume +2dB (from 0:19 mark until end of song)
Tracks 103-112 and Tracks 201-209: Increased volume +2dB

Leads vocals: Danny Hutton, Cory Wells, Chuck Negron (Yes, including Chuck!)
Overall, a very nice-sounding show. The vocals are prominent in the mix, but you'd expect that for two reasons: (1) Three Dog Night is primarily a vocal-based act, and (2) the smaller venue meant the guitars didn't need additional amplification from the soundboard.
Per Wikipedia, Three Dog Night's 1985 spring/summer tour was postponed to allow Chuck Negron time to check into rehab to combat his recurring drug problem. As it turns out, Chuck suffered a relapse during the tour and was fired by the band in December 1985, a month after this show...and that was the last time all three lead vocalists performed together in Three Dog Night.
After cleaning up his act, Chuck approached Danny and Cory in the early 1990s about re-joining the group but due to various circumstances, a re-group never occurred.

Long version (for those obsessed with trivial information):
What started out as a simple transfer of one of Phil G.’s graciously sent tapes turned into a week long journey into the abyss…
As those of you who have been collecting Meat Puppets stuff for years can attest, the sheer volume of studio material is daunting. The fact that the Ryko reissues collected some of the material for release, while amazing for fans, has made sorting out what is still left out there unreleased even more daunting.
The tape Phil G. sent to me was labeled ‘Unreleased Demos’. Ah, the irony. Many of the tracks on the tape have since been released on the various Ryko reissues. In addition to what is listed above, songs not included here are:
I’m Not Here (Ryko ‘Meat Puppets II’ reissue)
New Gods (Ryko ‘Meat Puppets II’ reissue)
I Just Wanna Make Love to You (Willie Dixon) (Blasting Concept, Vol 2 comp\’Out
My Way’ Bonus)
Lost (Ryko ‘Meat Puppets II’ reissue)
What to Do (Rolling Stones) (Ryko ‘Meat Puppets II’ reissue)
100% of Nothing (Ryko ‘Meat Puppets II’ reissue)
Aurora Borealis (Ryko ‘Meat Puppets II’ reissue)
I Feel Alright (Stooges) (Ryko ‘Meat Puppets’ reissue)
No Values (Black Flag) (Ryko ‘Meat Puppets’ reissue)
I Got A Right (Stooges) (Ryko ‘Meat Puppets’ reissue)
I Am A Child (Ryko ‘Meat Puppets’ reissue)
I Had A Dream Last Night (John Sebastion) (Ryko ‘Meat Puppets’ reissue)
Around the Bend (CCR) (Ryko ‘Meat Puppets’ reissue)
Franklin’s Tower (Grateful Dead) (Ryko ‘Meat Puppets’ reissue)

Aside from the oft circulated 1st LP demos (which made it to the Ryko reissue in the same order as the tapes that had been in circulation for years prior), The remaining tracks are all from 1983, it became apparent; ‘Meat Puppets II’ and ‘Up on the Sun’ era.
So I went back to my collection and dug out a tape I got back in the early 90’s labeled ‘Sessions 1983’ to see if I could toss it out in lieu of this very nice recording. Phil told me his pal got his tape from ‘a member of the band.’ (most likely Derrick, methinks) and, while not sure of the exact gens from the masters (2-3 methinks), the sound is very nice.
It turned out that the ‘Sessions 1983’ tape song list was completely different. The sound was rough, but it was certainly worth looking deeper into it to see if any songs could be matched to Phil’s tape. It turned out, not one.
So I pulled a transfer of my tape, and put the proverbial lipstick on the pig. I did a (tasteful) click pop elimination (the tape was a crackling mess), patched a couple of channel drop outs, added some volume, and ya know what…it sounds a lot better. (not perfect, but pretty nice)
The ‘sessions’ tracks are VERY experimental. They are certainly not ‘demos’ in the sense that the band went to the studio to get proper takes. They are, however, really interesting jams, vamps and all out skewering of songs as they were later released; some interesting stuff. The songs on Phil’s tape are a lot more realized ‘demos’…hence I call this ‘demos and sessions’…
As far as the time periods listed:
I went under the assumption that 1983 sessions are actually from 1983. If so, these woulda probably have taken place very early in the year. These ‘Up on the Sun’ sessions, the same that yielded “Mother American Marshmallow” and “Hot Pink”, took place in May. The first Meat Puppets II sessions took place between April and May of 1983, so, they seem to all be from this same time period.
The first LP songs on here are very apparently from these sessions as well, and not from one of the many 1980-81 sessions tapes in circulation. The songs are still blistering hardcore bacchanalia, but are a bit more polished and played with a bit more proficiency than the earlier versions…AMAZING STUFF!!...
But, why take my word for it…

TRANSFER/EDITING NOTES:
This is the only Deep Purple recording I've attempted to "remaster". I did so because I thought it had real potential to sound better. I haven't uploaded much of what I've worked on lately but I have uploaded this recording as a gesture to any Deep Purple fans who would like to hear a different and perhaps better sounding version of this great early show.
In case you're wondering (and I know some of you are), there was no noise reduction or limiting/compression used during the restoration-remastering process.
As always, I have drastically realigned the frequency spectrum, eliminating areas of noise with little to no musical content. This is a good way of eliminating hiss and other anomalies in frequency ranges that have collected noise wherein the original recording does not lie. Hope you enjoy. Cheers.
