Fish: Ahoy 1990 (FM) FLAC

800px-Ahoy_Rotterdam
10 March 1990
Ahoy, Rotterdam, The Netherlands
OU Notes: I still have a lot of old analogue tapes from the old days when I used to record radio shows broadcasting live concerts or studio shows.
Since I have a Edirol R09 now, I am trying to transfer these analogue tapes and
recordings to digital and upload them on Dime.
Linage: Analogue tape > Stand alone tape player > Edirol R09 > NERO Wave Editor 4 > Flac
I didn't do anything to improve the recording, apart from fading in at the beginning of track 01 and fading out at the end of track 07, ad splitting the recording into several tracks.
This recording was broadcast by Radio Veronica, most probably on Dutch radio show Countdown Cafe in 1990. It's part of the concert Fish did in the Ahoy in Rotterdam on 10 March 1990, after having left Marillion. I actually was at that concert at the time.

These are the tracks:
01. Fish and audience doing an ID for Radio Veronica
02. Internal Exile
03. A Gentleman's Excuse Me
04. Vigil In A Wilderness Of Mirrors
05. Kayleigh
06. Lavender
07. Heart Of Lothian

36 Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby

The ninth volume in our 'all the good titles are taken already' overview of The Beatles’ live career. This brings us to the end of their second U.S. tour and, unfortunately, to the end of the surviving 1965 shows. We’d love to hear it a tape from their December British tour.
Most of these recordings already sounded fine, although the less said about Minneapolis the better. Even so, we still ran our proprietary audio clean-up system. We think the re-edit and re-eq of the afternoon San Fransisco show is the most significant improvement.
Our Hollywood Bowl Deluxe Edition has different edits/mixes, but these are the unedited stereo tapes of the 1965 Hollywood Bowl shows. (We also fixed a tape stretch in I Feel Fine on the 30th. Wow.)
As always, Purple Chick discs are fan created and NEVER FOR SALE!!!

Black Sabbath: Shock Wave Over Texas 1978 (Soundboard) FLAC

cover
DATE : 1978/12/07
VENUE : Taylor County Coliseum, Abilene, USA
SETLIST :
Symptom Of The Universe [Joined in progress]
Snowblind
War Pigs
Never Say Die
Black Sabbath
Shock Waves
Dirty Women
Rock 'N' Roll Doctor [Fades out]

NOTES: This is one of the handfull of soundboard recordings we have from the 70s. Unfortunately for us, it's way incomplete (running time is around 46 minutes) but it's worth having for many reasons, namely the sound quality which is excellent, but also because it was the forth to last show and the last known live recording of Black Sabbath with Ozzy in the 70s, and it ncludes the sixth and last known live recording of the rarely played "Shock Waves" (and the only soundboard recording of this song).
Enjoy !

The tenth and penultimate volume in our overview of The Beatles’ live career brings us their brief 1966 World Tour and the end of the Beatles caring much about their performances. Still, the Munich and Tokyo shows are the last to survive in soundboard quality.
The unbooted Hamburg tracks are taken from a German radio broadcast. We’re very grateful they made their way to us.
The Disc One bonus tracks are a little unnecessary, since Track 33 is much longer than anything available previously. But the snippets are maybe a little better quality, so it’s all here, just in case you care.
Note: We used two similarly titled “Bravo Beatles” sources – one issued by MBE, and one by Misterclaudel (notated with an ‘(MC’).
As always, Purple Chick discs are fan created and NEVER FOR SALE!!!

Bob Dylan: Rock Solid 1980 (Unreleased Album) FLAC

s-41f
"Rock Solid"
Massey Hall, Toronto, ON
April 19, 1980
SOUNDBOARD RECORDING
SBD -> Bootleg -> ?? -> CD-R -> EAC -> Flac

Tracklist:
1. Gotta Serve Somebody
2. Covenant Woman
3. When You Gonna Wake Up
4. Precious Angel
5. Slow Train
6. Solid Rock
7. In The Garden
8. Cover Down/Break Through

The details from the Field Recordings guide is here:
http://www.angelfire.com/wa/monicasdude/608.htm
To quote briefly, "The first seven tracks on this disc reportedly make up Solid Rock, a live album compiled by Dylan but rejected by Columbia...Not much need be said about this terrific sounding set...Essential stuff."
Sound is excellent, in particular for a recording of this era, but overall very nice. The fade-ins and outs for each track are just as I received them in a trade a few years back.

ROCK SOLID
Junkyard Angel 004 [T-608]
Massey Hall (Toronto, ON); April 19, 1980 (line)
Tracklist: Gotta Serve Somebody, Covenant Woman, When You Gonna Wake Up, Precious Angel, Slow Train, Solid Rock, In The Garden, Cover Down Break Through
NOTE: The first seven tracks on this disc reportedly make up Solid Rock, a live album compiled by Dylan but rejected by Columbia. The final track, incorrectly sourced on the cover slips, comes from the same April 19 performance as the other songs. However, "Cover Down" was apparently not slated for the planned LP.
DEEP: Not much need be said about this terrific sounding set, allegedly the unreleased live album considered for official release way back when. The sound is as close to official release quality as you are likely to hear. The performances of the gospel material are breathtaking, Dylan's singing never better and his conviction awe-inspiring. Essential stuff.
rmd: I think this is Bob's greatest album ever, unreleased or not. Great performance and crystal clear sound.
rmd: Stunning quality "official" live recording that never actually made it to release. The performances are superb and committed.

The Beetles: en Europe 1964-65 (FLAC)

BeatlesLive07-EnEurope-front
Live 07 Les Beatles en Europe (Purple Chick)
The seventh volume in our continuing overview of The Beatles' live career, highlighting their brief 1965 European tour and then moving onwards to America.
As always, we think these are (objectively) the most complete and (subjectively) the best sounding versions of these shows to date. Performance-wise, they're not so bad either. Of course, your mileage may vary, and some shows will always sound pretty dire.
Erratum: So it turns out that the last volume's Toronto Maple Leafs Garden segment was not what it seemed. "You Can't Do That," "All My Loving" and the intro to "She Loves You" are duplicated from the Seattle show a couple of weeks (and discs) earlier. On the other hand "She Loves You" itself is indeed from the Toronto show. Who knew?
Purple Chick discs are fan created and NEVER FOR SALE!!!

Weather Report: The Jabberwocky Club 1973 (Soundboard) FLAC

Weather_Report_19810611_shinjuku_fn13
Syracuse
New York
1973-06-30
Weather Report was an influential jazz fusion band of the 1970s and early 1980s combining jazz and latin jazz with art music, ethnic music, r&b, funk and rock elements (in varying proportions throughout their career). Their music is demonstrative of high levels of compositional[citation needed] and improvisational skill.
Being one of the groups most frequently associated with both fusion and jazz-rock may be seen as ironic, as Joe Zawinul once said in a Down Beat interview he "did not understand what fusion meant" and Pat Metheny once revealed he and Jaco Pastorius sometimes used to talk about how much they disliked that musical style called "jazz-rock".

OU Notes:
A 6 day restoration project ...
For those who like details ... I Took the original video seeded here a couple of years back and split it into video stream and audio. Took jazzfromhell's uncompressed DAT WAV and matched it up against the original AC3 audio. Resampled to 48 KHz, normalized the resulting file to 0db and saved it to WAV.
Took the elementary video stream, resized it to fit the screen, made a couple of minor repairs, then ran several filters. De-interlaced with a 1 pix vertical smooth and a light sharpening. Adjusted individual channel levels to keep the color matched as close as possible to the original while darkening the black and lightening the white. I added a light grain removal to take out some edge artifacts and flat surface graininess. Anyway, 36 hours of rendering later, I had a new single pass VBR mpeg at maximum setting and I re-authored the DVD with the best audio possible.
Some of you might not like the light edge texturing that has replaced the compression artifacts, but it's the price that had to be paid for working on a compressed mpeg rather than a clean uncompressed copy ... The loss of the blue line on the left and VHS crackling across the bottom is an improvement, but I'm going to post a few comparative screen grabs so you can decide whether it's worth the download.
Enjoy!!

Finally Back on Track!

42-21056708
Hi Friends,
I have always tried to give you a little window as to what is happening in my life and with this blog.
I finally figured out my uploading issues and feel like I am finally starting to get back on track with my posting goals.
I will clean up the loose ends (missing rs or mega links posted today) very soon. I do plan to take a relaxed approach this extended weekend but on Tuesday you'll get more of what you are used to.
Thank you again for making this adopted mission of mine a joy to work on. Thanks also for visiting friends >>>
-Dave

PS May I encourage you this Memorial Day weekend to remember those who have gone on before us and pause and give thanks for what we have. I have heard it said that happiness is not found in having what you want but wanting what you have ;)

The Beetles: Convention Hall Wisdom 1964 (FLAC)

BeatlesLive06-ConventionHall-front
Live 06 Convention Hall Wisdom (Purple Chick)

The sixth volume in our overview of The Beatles' live career finishing off their first U.S. tour and bringing us to the end of 1964, plus an orphan show from 1965 (there won't be room for it next volume!)
As always, some shows already sounded great (like Indianapolis), our proprietary audio equalization and clean-up system made some significant improvements to others (like Philadelphia) while some shows were really beyond redemption (like Montreal).

Here's Sammy Hagar at his best, pre-wimpy Van Hagar days. I had recorded this off the radio to reel to reel in 1982, but a few years ago I found the pre-FM CD of it (Album Network or something - obviously a later rebroadcast) so that's what I have to offer here.

This is yet another master clone of the famous Dick Barber tapes - for the full story and more lineage info, check one of bburnett's seeds from this series. Levels are very high in places, and some clipped peaks affect the sound. Other than that, this is one of the better sounding DB tapes, from a very dynamite show.

Megaupload Maxed Out

close-up-fuel-gauge_1574R-24711.preview

Good Afternoon Friends,
I have been having some uploading issues with megaupload. What I didn't realize is that the reason was that I have already uploaded a terabyte of data to their servers (their limit per account). (over 11,000 files!!)
I have purchased a 2nd megaupload account and have already begun uploads.
Today's offerings will be a little slim but I hope to be at full steam by Thursday.

More to come VERY soon.

And so to the conclusion of The Beatles as a performing group (although some might argue the end really came a year or more earlier) – all the circulating shows from their final tour of the U.S.A.
While this may be a delight for completists, the last show at San Francisco is the only decent sounding recording here (and not such a bad performance either, relatively speaking). Also of note is the 'cherry bomb' explosion heard halfway through "If I Needed Someone" from the Memphis evening show. Otherwise it's slim pickings, pop pickers.
We've done our best to make everything sound as good as possible - speed correction, a little eq, and more (but never any compression or noise reduction!) We even used a source for the San Francisco show without the digital reverb appearing on most releases of this concert.
It's not all that pretty, but this is it – the end of The Beatles live. (Unless you count the Rooftop Concert – and that's on A/B Road if you still need to find it!)
As always, Purple Chick discs are fan created and NEVER FOR SALE!!!
